Does anyone else think he's similar to Jemile Weeks? Just me maybe. I still like the trade because hopefully it opens up another opportunity for some of the young pitchers.

Isn’t he rated higher by scouts?

Ruiz can sometimes look the part of an everyday 3B. He should not play against LHP. It’s time for him to produce to get cut. Everyone is talking up Franco. I wouldn’t mind having Marwin Gonzalez.

Ruiz hits lefties better than righties.  He is helpless against RHP.

Nolan Ryan only won 8 games in 1987 ...... yet he finished 5th in the National League Cy Young voting that season.

Aside from his less-than-stellar 8-16 overall record that season, Ryan led the Major Leagues in ERA (2.76), Strikeouts (270), FIP (2.47), Hits-Per-9 Innings (6.548), Strikeouts-Per-9-Innings (11.480), and Strikeouts-to-Walks Ratio (3.103.) He also led the National League in ERA+ (142.)

That may be one of the most extreme examples in modern MLB history in which a pitcher's W-L record didn't begin to tell the whole story of the kind of season that he actually had.

It’s almost like wins are not an accurate measure of how well you pitched ?

Not sure how that’s BS necessarily. Pretty common for streaming games. For example, I can stream big ten games on fox sports app, but I need a cable subscription to access. This is still positive news in that it will allow me to watch/listen games when I’m not home or in range of Orioles radio broadcasts

I’m excited to be able to watch when I can’t be in front of the TV. ?

I really did write the paragraph, yea.  Imagine that!!  I said the situations are obviously different, but it is possible for a team to trade off major assets and not suck for the next 3-5 seasons.

And the way they do it is the way the Orioles have to do it to be relevant.  Good international scouting every year and effective domestic draft modeling so they consistently  have a decent farm system (in addition to their money).

    Enjoyed the article.

If the O's need a roster spot I think they will  put Goudeau through waivers to try to get him to AAA.  A 28 year old, 27th round pick that has never done well passed AA.

And I think Shaw is a former 1st round pick with a lot of power.  The O's are at least going to want to see him in ST to see what Don Long can do with him.

I wonder if Lopez and Goudeau are here to buy an extra year of service time for Baumann and Lowther (and Wells and Smith).

Exactly what we should expect.   He can compete for the Jorge Lopez for the #5 starter until Baumann or Lowther are ready.   I doubt Elias is done adding potential starters.

Or #6 starter.  Not sure how many innings to expect from the guys next year.  Might need some kind of six man rotation.

I think it's a great idea to judge his defense based on his MLB highlights.

In other news I was just looking at Stevie Wilkerson's MLB highlights and what a center fielder!

    Check out this guy:

I'm sure the buyout of the lease would be part of the purchase price.  A lease is not keeping a team in a city their owner doesn't want to stay in.

It is keeping them out of Tampa (and stuck in St. Petersburg) for the moment.   It’s too bad.

First off the information was available before this year.  That stuff was purchased before the 2019 season.

Secondly it doesn't change the point I was making.  You stated, I'm paraphrasing because I've already directly quoted you numerous times, that no harm can come of him working to refine a breaking ball.  I don't agree and I think there is at least a possibility that the better course of action will be to concentrate his efforts into improving other parts of his game.

That article actually says that they did not have Rapsodo in 2019.

    How does that change anything?

    The principle is the same.

It isn't accurate to say that "it can't hurt to try to get better".  Certain courses of action are more likely to end up with favorable outcomes.

It changes everything.  He didn’t have the information to help before.  Now he does.

If you spend resources to attempt to refine a third pitch when you could instead be expending those resources on some other way to improve you could in fact be hurting your overall development.

To bring up Gausman again, I think, in hindsight, he would have been better off working on the command of his FB/Change/Split instead of screwing around with various types of mediocre sliders and curves.

Except the team had not purchased the equipment.  Now they have.

Not everyone is capable of developing three plus or even average pitches.  Two solid pitches with a third "show me" pitch can be better than using a poor third and fourth pitch.

Perhaps, but I think that mindset doesn’t fit in with this regime.  Can’t hurt to try to get better.
