When people blather this guy or that guy would never be on a winning team, I will remind them that TJ McFarland was named to his team's wildcard round roster this year.  So was Jonah Heim.

    McFarland pitched well in 2014.

A lot posters are thinking/hoping that Davis will not be on the 40 man roster.  What happens if Davis is not on the 40 man?  Is it like he was DFA'ed?  I can't see any team claiming Davis even if its only for mlb minimum.

Another team can pay him league minimum and the Orioles pay the rest.  Just like when they picked up Tony Bautista.

With the emergence of the surplus of outfielders the Orioles have I realize now Santander may be on the outside looking in  come 2022 or even as early as 2021 .
    Here is what we have

Mountcastle LF - should play somewhere everyday . Left field or dh

Mullins - All three positions - fast but weak arm

Hayes - great tools , needs to stay healthy

Stewart - good eye at plate , limited defensively

Mancini - really should not be an outfielder at this point -should be at 1b full time next season ( Davis will play depending on match ups)

Santander - corner outfielder . 20+ hr power , limited defensively

Others : Diaz, McKenna , later on Kjerstad

I think the best outfield we could field for right now would be : Hayes , Mullins , Mountcastle . When Diaz is ready Diaz takes over rf from Hayes, Mullins goes on bench and Hayes moves to center . This would happen end of 2021

santander becomes trade chip  if Diaz works out

That would be refreshing.  Roch said Mountcastle will be getting regular time at 1B for the rest of the season, so that may help.

Sorry if there is already a thread elsewhere -- just wanted to stop in and say I can't believe it's been 25 years! Hope y'all are well.

I was a college baseball player and drove five hours each way for it.  Best decision I ever made.

For me I'd go with the Miracle on Ice.

It was absolutely stunning to be in stadium.  I was surprised.  Had goosebumps as it was happening.

So what is going on here?   Fangraphs graded Mountcastle’s speed at 45/40 before the season.  Last fall, OH also graded Mountcastle’s speed at 45/40.    After the 2017 season, OH graded him at 40/40.   (No tool grades were given in the 2018 scouting reports.).  So how is he now an 87th percentile runner?   Did all the scouts miss this?   Has he done something in the offseason to dramatically improve his speed?   Is that even possible?

I don’t get it, but I’m happy about it.

That is interesting.  Maybe the Orioles wanted to try him in LF over 1B because he runs well?

I laughed a bitter laugh, not because this is bad news, but because it doesn’t seem to matter, because Mike isn’t calling up any pitching prospects at the moment, for some reason. That’s why tomorrow’s starters include Lopez instead of several other guys whom I would rather see.

They think they saw something and fixed it in López.  Hopefully they are right.

Vavra no. 7 (ahead of Diaz!) and Nevin no. 23 per Fangraphs.   https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2020-in-season-prospect-list/summary?sort=-1,1&team=bal

One thing you have to credit Elias for: he’s added a lot of 2B/SS prospects to the organization.    Per Fangraphs, Vavra, Westbury and Servideo all slot ahead of Hall and Grenier.    Not to mention Henderson, who Fangraphs pegs as a 3B but might stick at SS.   Hernaiz and Ortiz are also interesting.     A lot of competition now at those spots.

    That’s great!  They changed Vavra from a 40 to a 45.

I was at Matt Wieters' first Major League game in 2009 (woo hoo.)

For a split second, it crossed my mind to make a post ........ "Is anybody going to Mountcastle's career Major League debut tonight ???"

That has happened to me a lot this season. I've often had ever-so-fleeting thoughts cross my mind, such as"Hey, the Orioles are playing the Mets this season. I can go see them at Citi Fie ....... Duh."

    o

I had a similar unfinished thought the other day about going to a game

Did he say, “Watch your mouth, VaBird1, or I’ll cut your playing time in half.”

And did you respond, “Zero divided by two is still zero, coach.”

    I was an infielder. ?

That is a lot of money to walk away from.  I can also see if hard for a prideful person to admit to themselves that they are an anchor to the team.

Right now he is hitting like a pitcher that doesn’t hit well though.  At some point that has to hit home, right?

When the Orioles played the Nats last Sunday and the Nats' ground crew couldn't get the tarp on the field, we were told that, according to the rules, the game wasn't over.  It was suspended, and the rest of the game would have to be played in Baltimore on Friday night, prior to the scheduled game.  Furthermore, we were told that, even though two games were to be completed Friday night, the seven-inning doubleheader rule would not be in effect - both games would have to go the full nine innings.

Last night, the Rays and Blue Jays were unable to finish an official game on Saturday night.  The game was suspended with play in the fourth inning.  They resumed it today and completed nine innings, with the Rays winning in the ninth.

They then played the regularly scheduled game - but that one was played under the seven-inning doubleheader rule.  (Note that the game actually lasted eight innings - the teams were tied at the end of the seventh inning, so they played an eighth inning, starting with a runner on second base.  The Rays won again.)

What provision of the rule says that when the Orioles have to complete a suspended game prior to a regularly scheduled game, the second game must go nine innings, but if other teams have to complete a suspended game prior to a regularly scheduled game, the second game only has to go seven innings?

I think it’s the rule where if you piss of the league the rules might change from time to time.

I think Ruiz may just be a keeper. Not an all star but he could be a formative piece to the next good Orioles team. I like Nunez and Alberto too but I have my doubts about sustained success. Santander is a head scratcher. How did we get him through the rule 5? He’s supposed to be another Ryan Flaherty level player but yet here he is becoming a mainstay in RF. Who’d have thought? I’m really hoping Sisco has turned a corner. He’s one of the only position players to have actually come up through the O’s system so I feel invested in his success. Same goes for Hays though Hays is proving he can’t be counted on the stay healthy enough to ever become someone you can depend on.

Santander was injured and had only played in A.  The Inidans took the chance noone would would take him.
