  1. The biggest motivation is securing a multi-year contract. It's delayed gratification sometimes: take a little less money right now (all opt-outs being equal), put yourself in a good situation according to you and your agent's evaluation, and cash-in sweet do-re-me the following winter, if everything goes as planned.
  2. Money? Depends: Long-term contract or Short-term contract? Long-term contract -- it's all about the Money. One-year bounce back contract: it's all about putting up good stats to get a long-term contract the following year... and lots of money then.
  3. Got no respect for Lob Rong's shtick.
  4. The only thing I remember him for, too, but I never liked it. It was like it was more about him than it was about Hardy. So he's 0-1 in my book. I won't miss him.
  5. As an employee, you are expected to act in a way representative of what your employer wants. That has zero to do with "freedom of speech."
  6. At least a brick wall isn't going to come back and put words in your mouth.
  7. (1) This makes no sense. People do not buy cars because they are easy to steal. (2) Hondas are durable.
  8. The Honda Accord is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road and rates near the top in owner satisfaction year after year. Porsches may be sexy but are extremely expensive, temperamental and spend a whole lot of time on the DL. Better hope Adley is not a Porsche. PS: Nissan sucks.
  9. But the human being, Chance Sisco, is not a device. So there is no excuse.
  10. The defensive value of catchers is far greater than throwing out base stealers
  11. Seems the HP ump would have overruled the Cyclops (or whatever cute nickname MLB will refer to its robotic strikezone camera) anyhow, so the problem of a human ump misapplying a basic rule would not be prevented nor overturned by a robo-ump.
  12. The problem is with the "armor" in the strike zone. The helmet was a good safety improvement -- and it's out of the strike zone. Same goes for shin pads: they are outside of the strike zone and a very, very good equipment improvement. But I would be fine with outlawing elbow pads.
  13. I thought you were saying he didn't when you said he "pulled up." Really ugly, regardless.
  14. He still dove though. And he never would have caught that ball because he ran so slowly towards it.
  15. As much as we are enjoying bashing Mountcastle for his poor defense -- the jog and dive in the fifth inning would have been a triple or inside the park HR if Mullins hadn't caught it and the play in the sixth when he let a catchable ball drop in and then threw it wildly back to the infield allowing the runner on first to advance were both ridiculous. But on that diving miss behind shortstop, Galvis should have been settled under it. Instead, Galvis froze at contact, then turned to his left towards centerfield and got completely spun around as the ball fell to what would have been over his right shoulder. Doesn't make Mountcastle's defense better but Galvis should have been camped out under that popup.
  16. When I said the two current catchers were the best options currently in the system, I was acknowledging that Adley is not currently being considered for a roster spot by the front office at this moment in time. Both of us know that we will be waiting for a while on his debut. I agree with you that the Orioles are gaming his service time. And they actually may believe he has to prove more in the minors, regardless of how you or I feel about that.
  17. Ketchup shouldn't even be in the Hot Dog Race. The third dog should be sauerkraut or chili and cheese.
  18. I was being snarky. But I was not putting words in your mouth. There are some other posters on here who are very willing to say, "You think..." and "According to you..." even when we have never made claims that they ascribe to us. That's not me
  19. I'm sure that if he had it to do all over again, he would have kept it fair and hit a homerun. /s
  20. If it were so easy to "convert" foul balls into fair balls, hitting would be the easiest thing to do in pro sports. But it doesn't work that way.
  21. It's like they say: hitting a baseball is the easiest thing to do in pro sports.
  22. He let it show how much he disliked Hunter.
  23. Other than Adley, do you think someone is better in the org currently?
