  1. I knew him well. A good man with tremendous sports knowledge.
  2. Feels so bad swinging at a curve like that one to end the inning. Really fooled.
  3. Just like a centerfielder is supposed to do...
  4. I think Garceau irks him. And he misses working with Gary Thorne.
  5. That felt nice -- been too long since I have seen an Orioles manager ejected from a game.
  6. I think Galvis needs a little more on his throws than what he has shown today.
  7. No fan of Garceau. I do like Kevin Brown and Geoff Arnold. But it would have taken ten minutes to find out what happened at the end of the game if Manfra had been yammering and stammering, failing miserably to untie his tongue. Whenever something exciting happened, he either gurgled nonsense or there was dead air.
  8. Yet another reason why I never shop at Walmart. ? Funny thing: after having just railed against some people using the WARs as discussion enders, your post prompted me to refamiliarize myself with Juan G. Looks like he should never have seen the field considering his -11.6 career dWAR (bbref). Even as a 21 year old, he registered a -1.5 dWAR. That's shocking.
  9. OK. that's fine. I purposefully did not reference you directly a second time because I had already quoted you once. For what it is worth, I think the bolded part is the most important: Severino and Sisco are the best options the Orioles currently have in their system.
  10. Ha! Ever read comments on MLBTR? There is even a comment earlier in this thread that relied solely on WAR to prove a point. The comment asserted that GMs judge players according to a player's worth compared to over replacement level - as opposed to dumb fans, was the gist. I can't imagine professional baseball talent evaluators even using WAR in conversation or determining value going forward anymore with real data - Statcast data on spin, speed, movement, etc. The only time you'd hear it used nowadays by an organizational employee would be lawyers fighting arbitration cases.
  11. Sounds like I would be at home there.
  12. You can bet they will be trottting that out on Thursday at OPACY. Probably a league directive.
  13. 14 HRs in 154 ABs in his first?rookie year in Boston. Looked like a bopper had emerged.
  14. You forgot Sam Horn? Former Red Sox, former Oriole Sam Horn? Who hit 3 HRs off Saberhagen on Opening Day in 1990?
  15. He was fortunate to escape the 6th inning allowing only one run while he was losing command. He was already on his third time through the order. Failure was lurking.
  16. I think they are are all expected to be this year.
  17. Cool that you don't care. But Zimmerman and Hyde and Holt and Elias all care about how Zimmerman feels - physically and emotionally - after this start. There is no justification for declaring that removing him from this game is a failure of his nor management's. i don't know what got you so worked up, but you are trying to turn success into tragedy.
  18. The pudding: 6th inning, 22 pitches, 9 balls
  19. It ensures his QS. Makes him leave on a really high note. And he will get the W unless the slim chance of the pen allowing 7 runs in 3 innings comes true. Plus this is his third MLB appearance! Use kid gloves. Build on the good. And if the wins and losses don't count, I can't see a reason to not protect Zimmerman.
  20. Zimmerman: 19 of 23 first-pitch strikes.
  21. No way in a million years will they have him start the 7th. Leave him with great feelings.
  22. Not sure I understand your point. Like dWAR, I doubt that any GM uses "Total Zone or UZR or Statcast data as the sole, indisputable measure of a player's skills." But there are plenty of fans who find WAR or dWAR to be discussion ending, with no nuance accepted. In other words, many use WAR or dWAR as "the sole, indisputable measure of a player's skills." That's not only dull and unintellectual, but foolish.
