  1. Good point! They threw basically the same number of innings. I guess I will be hoping for some less stressful situations with Burnes than Gibson. We should have some decent leads when Burnes exits vs Gibson. That might take some pressure off the pen. If Bradish and GROD keep it going too, maybe we won’t play as many close games this year. Again that will provide less stress on the pen.
  2. Does Burnes help the bullpen out too? He pitched at least six innings in 63 of his 93 starts the last three years. The entire staff (maybe Means is on a pitch count) should be stronger which should take some pressure off the pen. Burnes is a workhorse! Great to have a guy who is a Top 5 pitcher who will give you 30 starts and pitch relatively deep into games. How is our defense and catching compared to what he had in Milwaukee?

  4. We need to step back from the ledge! Let’s look at the big picture. There will be ups and downs all season long. The bullpen will be fine. Did we think Bautista was going to have a sub 1 era all season? Again big picture: on August 10th he has 31 saves, 1.66 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 6-2 record, and 104ks in 54 innings! That is ELITE. After Bautista we have lots of depth long term. Cano, Baumann, Fuji, Perez, Webb, Coulombe, Irvin, Baker, Krehbel, Hall, Means, Wells, and maybe GROD or Kremer in the playoffs. We have played 115 games and have the best record in the AL by three games in the loss column. Things are GREAT!! Let’s focus on some positives!
  5. Grayson was up to 97 pitches and just walked two guys. You definitely take him out there. If he stayed in and Springer hit a three run homer, then it would be complaints saying he was gassed - what was Hyde thinking. i was hoping for him to get Belt and then come back out for the 7th. It is a learning experience for him. He should have challenged Belt. He treated Belt like he was Aaron Judge. Belt has nine homers on the season and he was extremely careful to him.
  6. I agree. Less than 1% it happens. But I would do it. I am not worried about Fangraphs percentages. The percentages have been off about the Orioles for the past year. Where do you see those five prospects impacting the Orioles in the next few years? Or do you think we trade some of them for other pieces?
  7. Would getting Ohtani make us a Top 3 WS favorite? I think so. How many of those five prospects do you actually believe will play for the Orioles? Ortiz and Norby seem blocked. Maybe Ortiz will be a super utility guy. Stowers will not be playing for us. Hall cannot stay healthy and is a bullpen piece. Beavers is doing ok at Aberdeen. It is a tempting offer. Maybe Ohtani likes being in the playoffs, maybe he likes that the team will be competing for a WS for awhile, maybe he likes playing with the young guys, etc. We offer 10 years for 500-550 million. Would you play 25-30 million for a middle of the order bat? Would you pay 25-30 million for an ACE? He is both. I know it’s a pipe dream but those five prospects would not scare me away from that deal. We will continue to building slowly but Ohtani would give us a Big Bat plus an Ace! The problem would be how do you eventually fit Adley, Gunnar, Holliday, etc in the overall team salary when their numbers start to sky rocket! Attendance would definitely go up and plenty of money would be coming in!
  8. They have ONE building block right now in Greene. Torkelson is looking more and more like Mountcastle. EROD is going to opt out. They might be “only” six games out of the Central but they are a long ways away from the talent of the Twins, WhiteSox, and Guardians.
  9. Well you never know until you ask. The Tigers are going nowhere in the next few years so if they can add two or three good young pieces they might go for it.

  11. Instead of EROD what would it take for Tarik Skubal coming back from an injury.
  12. What would it take to get Carlos Hernandez of the Royals?
  13. Frazier is a lifetime .250 vs LHP. I just think the Top of 7 leading off shouldn’t be an automatic pinch hitter situation. The good thing is that for now we are winning getting our young guys great experiences in big time situations. Hopefully it will pay off in the future.
  14. The offense deserves some blame too. The Dodgers have are ranked 22nd in bullpen ERA but we didn’t muster anything after that got the 6-4 lead in the 6th. Why does Hyde just automatically pinch hits in certain situations. Westburg has struggled recently but he pinch hit for Frazier because of a lefty. Frazier will overall right now give us better at bats than Westburg. Well a righty was on the mound in the 9th and finished the game vs Westburg.
  15. GROD should have never started the 6th inning. Let the young man enjoy a one run performance against the Dodgers. He did his job! Coulombe or Vespi should have been in to start the 6th. You had Freeman and Muncy due up. Baker is our third trusted reliever. Not sure who calls the pitches but throwing two off speed pitches to Heyward after the count reached 2-2 was terrible! He was close on some of the high fastballs away. Should have been more fastballs on outside corner. Pitch calling again vs Taylor was terrible. I see Adley looking toward the dugout. Is he calling the pitches or someone in the dugout. BTW the second guessing of Hyde thread seems to have more pages than the praise Hyde thread. We must be a terrible team .
  16. If they are out of the playoff hunt and cannot sign him, why would they just allow him to walk. They have underperformed all season! Manny is hurt. They cannot keep paying everyone 200 million and hope to win a chip! Something is off with that team.
  17. If we cannot get a TOR starter, why not try to get another big time reliever. Hader is a FA after this season, so what would it cost to rent him for two months? I seriously doubt Elias would even consider it, but can you imagine Cano, Bautista, and Hader? If we have the lead after five or six innings, the game is probably over!
  18. I would like to get EROD also but I do have concerns! 1. why didn’t Boston sign him after he did well for them? Five years at 77 million seemed real reasonable. 2. He walked away from the Tigers last year and didn’t talk to the team for a long time! He shows back up and said he was dealing with a family situation without giving any details! 3. Can opt out and all of sudden he is pitching great again. After he gets his next big contract does he disappear again?
  19. Giolito has had five seasons of 122 ERA plus. EROD has had two. Our current rotation combined has had three season above 122+. Giolito has made ten starts this year with 8 of them going at least six innings! The two that didn’t make it to six were his first two starts of season!
  20. I would! We would have to find a trade partner for Kremer then unless he has options. EROD Gibson Wells Bradish GRod
  21. Maybe Kremer, Mateo/Urias, and Stowers/Norby. Only if he opts in to the rest of the contract or we sign him to an extension. That gives Detroit three starters! EROD is opting out anyways and will not go back to Detroit. I like Lucas Giolito also.
  22. You have to start turning over this poor starting pitching rotation if we want to win a World Series. Out of the current five, I would take Wells (5) and GROD (3) as a rotation that can win a World Series. I do not believe it would cost a ton to get Eduardo Rodriquez! After his issues last year, Detroit I think would be happy to get rid of his contract. They are going nowhere fast. If they want major league ready players maybe we could do Bradish, Urias, and Stowers. That’s three starters for them! We get a #2/3 starter. Ortiz or Westburg comes up! Now a future rotation looks a lot better: 1. ?? 2. ERod 3. Grod 4. Means 5. Wells
