Zimmerman is pitching today, which is 12 days before the home opener.

Interestingly, Means has been lined up for the home opener.   His last start was Sunday, so going every 5th day would have him lined up to pitch the home opener, not the opener in Tampa.

Has Hyde announced an Opening Day starter for the 8th?   Perhaps he is saving Means to open in front of the home crowd and will go with Lyles in the Tampa opener?

Be nice to see a hometown kid get the start in Zim.

lol.. Yeah, I can't believe Garceau didn't ask him "Why he signed a bum for $7 million." 🤣

It's a spring training interview. They are not going ask him why he didn't do "x" or "y".

As for any other stop gaps, how does that make the team better in 2023 and beyond?

The Orioles need to evaluate T. Wells, Lowther, Zimmerman, Kremer, Akin, Baumann, and eventually Bradish this year to see what they have. All of these guys will get their chance this year to show they can be part of winning future. Giving a bunch of innings to a Zach Davies instead of these guys makes little sense to me.

Because young arms will get hurt/overworked and then you will be forced to bring up more young arms and hurt their development. Johnny Cueto still out there. Plenty of options for minor league contracts too.

    like this guy: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/brewers-sign-jose-urena-to-minor-league-deal.html

    or Archer.

I strongly believe this is a huge and dangerous step by Elias, irresponsible even.

Oh you were talking about Stewart being drafted before and then you said "always" so I just assumed you meant the first time he was drafted, by the A's, in the same draft that Stewart went five picks after.

I can totally see how you would love a rule V pick that has managed to put up -2 rWAR.  Not many guys manage to accumulate that much negative value and stay in baseball.  It's an accomplishment.

😂😂😂 I like the potential but the d has really disappointed. Strong believer in aiming high and/or at premium positions for the rule 5 draft. Martin was one Garcia another that didn’t work but like the logic. Santander worked!

The 2010-2012 Nationals went from 69-80-98 wins as they debuted Strasburg (now 32 career WAR) and Harper (now 40 career WAR).    Cot's lists the 2010-2015 Nationals Opening Day payrolls rank 24-21-17-10-8-6.    The few years preceding they were Bottom 5 all the time.

The hope is, whatever shenanigans happen the next month or two, we get two cornerstones in the same year, and start to see if Adley and Grayson can play at a 7-win level collectively for a decade.

The 2022 Orioles are DOA, but with any luck we'll see something far brighter than a glimmer this summer.

Rizzo is really good. Cade Cavelli (picked like 20 behind Kjerstad) might be in their starting rotation this year.

I have posted this before but I will post it again. No first round pick that spends a significant amount of time in the Majors is an awful first round pick, and certainly not one that is picked #25 overall.

Of the 20 players picked around Stewart (10 before and 10 after), 7 have not made the Majors, 4 have negative career rWAR, 5 have rWARs between 0 and 2 and 4 have rWARS above 2. Stewart is slightly above the middle of the pack with his career 0.5 rWAR among his draft cohort.

Stewart’s class was def bad, but why not go pitching there? Odds tougher but what we needed at the time.

Completely understand and agree on the success thing but you gotta aim superstar when you are just so bad for so long. When in doubt, go pitching or SS.

He literally said I love what the organization is doing and am "excited" to watch a 30m payroll get smoked for 162 games.  Talk about brainwashed.

We've been watching this movie for 20 years, we know exactly what they are doing behind the scenes.

Not allowing their broadcast team to travel to save a $1000 bucks. That is what they are doing.

    Amen!

I think fans think about what other teams fans think too much. Laughing stock to whom? I love what the organization is doing and where they're at, by and large. I'm excited to watch this team. I have realistic expectations. 95% of baseball fans have no idea what the Os are up to behind the scenes, and I say let them continue to be ignorant.

So you understand we are in a holding pattern until Angelos passes and what Elias wants isn’t likely being done because of that? Ignorant fans aren’t all that ignorant, 38 years. You must be young:)

Besides being a great story and Trey being a great guy what sense, baseball wise, does it make not to trade him?  Whenever you get an offer that is fair for him (hopefully one player from a team's top 30?), you make the move.  Wish Trey the best and hope he gets to play in the playoffs.

We have become the joke of mlb and just a pass through for winning franchises, makes me sick. Mancini is a leader and role model for fans of all ages. Mancini is about more than baseball to me.

I don’t get the thought process of fans.

Every single Os fan knows what Mancini went through and being a member of the Os isn’t helpful.

Get him out of here and let him go play games that matter.  We are doing him a favor.

Plus, it’s dumb to even consider an extension for him, so you are going to lose him anyway.

Hard to argue with that. I love Mancini. Watched him play at various minor league stops and cheered him on. He deserves better. I wonder where he could go. I just hope it isn’t the Yankees. Mets with Buck?

I don't know why I care at this point, but I will be very upset if they don't try to improve the rotation before the season. It's a train wreck at this point. I would happily take Johnny Cueto or JA Happ. Give one of them 5M just to ease our suffering slightly this year.

    Agreed!!!!
