I'm in the latter half of my 30s now and try to be kind and respectful to everyone I meet, but I grew up in the punk scene and was definitely an edgy little prick in my teens/early 20s, and I would hate to be definitively judged in the present for things I said back then when I was barely out of high school and constantly angry at the world.

People change over time, and generally for the better. Hopefully Keegan has as well.

I saw the tweet in question, and it was definitely pretty gross, but he wasn't even old enough to drink when it happened. I'm perfectly fine with asking him to comment on it, but preemptively banning him from polite society for something he did just after graduating from his teenage years seems a bit overzealous to me.

I respectfully disagree but appreciate the dignified response. He stinks and than this? Why is he on the 40 man. Reminds me of Sir Sydney frame wise.

If you're going to state your opinions be prepared for people to respond to you.

Have no fear though.  This thread is certain to be locked soon enough.

So you accomplished that.  Good job.

Instead of talking about the 40 man, we got to see what an amazing person you are and how much better you are than all the racists.

I am better than you, clearly. Low bar.

If only he could performatively demonstrate his virtue on social media he could be as good as you.

I read your position. I have nothing to say to you other than bugger off.

I saw 2 "examples," one which seemed to just be celebrating old The Dukes Of Hazzard TV show (which happened to include a picture of their car with the Confederate flag on it) and another which is admittedly pretty distasteful but which is also 6 years old. I'm not sure I would unperson someone over a liked tweet from over half a decade ago but I also think it would be perfectly fair for one of our local sports reporters to ask him or the organization to comment on the matter, which does not seem to have happened from my cursory research.

I can message you the tweet in question. It’s bad. Even Trumpers I know thought it was disgusting. If you want to see it, I’ll message it, not post it. It’s much worse than what is being discussed here.

Hmmm, maybe.   I’ve successfully represented the NAACP in a race discrimination class action case, and I do about 100 hours of volunteer work a year for a foundation that sponsors racial justice fellowships for law students.  But, if you think a player should be taken off the 40-man roster because he liked a racist tweet several years ago and then took it down, then you probably do feel more strongly than I do.  I don’t like the fact that he did that, but I don’t think it’s a reason to keep him off the roster.    (PS - just saw your subsequent post.   I’ve never seen the actual post Akin “liked” but it sounds pretty bad.)

Well clearly you are better than all of us then, case closed.

What is the basis of this accusation? I'm genuinely curious.

He liked a tweeted calling for the n word to be shot dead. It’s so awful I am not going to post it but I think that should give you an indication. You can find it on Reddit and Twitter I believe. Many I know were shocked he wasn’t immediately released.

Hope everyone realizes that the team with the best ERA in the AL last  season had three starters with ERAs over 5.00.  Yarbrough,  Wacha and Fleming.   And Tampa led the AL with 100 wins.

And  no Tampa pitcher  pitched over 155 innings.

The O's one two punch of Grayson and Means will probably be better than any starter Tampa had last season.

The O's need more pitching depth but Lyles does not project to hurt the O's staff.  He projects to help it.

    Great post & thoughts.

It figures that the Rule 5 draft gets cancelled when we would have gotten first crack at what seems like an unusually robust pool of potential picks 😒

Agreed. But not a fan of Os approach (both Elias & under Buck). Go high ceiling if you are tanking. Russell Martin was a great pick, likely didn’t work but that’s the kinda guy you take, not the Flahertys of the world.

  9. I honestly believe he would throw almost unlimited money at him and that’s been his plan all along because he can’t quit the passion Houston provides lol. Seriously, he passed on a real good SS prospect last year which seems like a head scratcher so perhaps this is the guy he’s willing to kick it off. But gotta have better SP so look for rumors there.

When did the dork who started MLBTR all of a sudden have an opinion that mattered? That site used to be like a Drudge Report of baseball trade rumors…no original content, just compiling tidbits of info in one place.

Tim Dierkes has as much insight into the Orioles payroll plans as the guy who made my breakfast burrito this morning.

    "premium" chat LOL

Does he have an onlyfans account too? SMH

What do we consider the end of the rebuild?   I’d say in 2023 I expect the team to be close to .500, perhaps over.   I expect them to be 10+ wins better than the year before both in 2022 and 2023.   So let’s say they win 63 in 2022, 75 in 2023 (so, short of my goal, though significantly improved.)  Is the rebuild over?   When did it end?   Does Elias keep his job in that scenario?

I know we don't agree on much on here but here it goes...

I believe the "rebuild" has little to do with the team's prospects but the sale of the team. Everything contingent on when Peter passes sadly/morbidly. I don't wish death on anyone, even my worst enemy but I believe that is the reality to this team despite what the team says in press releases/interviews.

Why would you be shopping Mullins (I love him but get that one a little bit at least) and Means (we haven't had a home grown starter since Mussina, really just a red flag)? Makes zero sense. You aren't building a winner in the AL East with a stud catcher alone. That is just fantasy land stuff. The quantity of our top prospects aren't impressive. We just have a deeper lower to mid system (that could potentially used in trades). Not a recipe for a championship. But hey, dream away folks.

You know my opinion on Elias. He isn't awful but highly overrated and not criticized enough. He really hasn't produced many nuggets or finds in his tenure. I think he would easily leave here to use his experience for a higher profile job but don't know what he was told/promised. People around him are tight lipped.
