It hasn't seemed hard for the O's not to improve over that last 3 seasons.      But I think they will in 2022.

What are you doing up at this hour?   I am going to watch yesterday's game on MLB Network at 6.

FYI: it was on mlb.tv for free yesterday

As @Can_of_cornpointed out, MLB contracts are 100% guaranteed, even if the guy turns into a pumpkin in year 3 of 10.

The present ownership group was spending that kind of money only 4 or 5 years ago and Elias has consistently said that the money would be there when our competitive window opens. I know it's fun to be all doom and gloom after the last few years, but I see no reason to think that won't be the case.

I have stated no less than probably twenty times on this board: we will likely be “rebuilding” until Peter passes for tax reasons and then the team will be sold. You can think I am making it up but heard that long ago from a reliable source and believe that’s the situation. No need to guess. My understanding is this isn’t exactly super secret info anymore. Maybe someone should just ask Elias or John Angelos to confirm.

    Damned Confederate money...

Our payroll got up to like $160-180 million under DD, I don't see any real reason to think Elias won't get at least a similar level of financial commitment from ownership once our window is open and the talent pipeline is pumping.

😂😂😂😂 Zero chance of anything close to that. Zero. Not until a new owner arrives.

  4. Somebody that was drafted by Elias in Houston that isn’t very good. Seems like a theme. Not really sure why we have a GM since we sign few players and most are to minor league deals. We could just get by with a scouting director. Think of the savings!

I really like the fit of Correa. Yes, it's a huge risk and yes, 10-year deals rarely work, but Correa is only 3 years older than Adley and the timeline works for him with the young guys coming up (or about to come up) and while he won't be worth the AAV of the contract in the final years as a 35-36 year old, I don't forsee this going as badly as the Davis deal. It also clears SS to allow Henderson, Westburg, Ortiz, Vavra, Norby, Mayo etc. to fill in the 2B, 3B and utility holes (most of them figure to be in one of those spots anyway), gives us some trade bait to find top-end starters and jumps us to the stage where the rebuild starts to show at the Major League level, not just in the minors.

This is a year where everything is supposed to start coming together and it would be great if there was a proven centerpiece to that so it's not all on Rutschman to be the face and the savior. This would also then give the Orioles a strong up the middle (Mullins, Correa, Adley) to market to pitchers (to add via Free Agency as well as trade).

Agreed 110% but my guess until Peter passes, we are “rebuilding” just watch

  6. Good to see Beisbol back. Busy sports day with the tournie games.

really really disappointed with the lack of signings by Elias. Wasn’t fully expecting a big splash this year but same pathetic effort. I sure wish more fans & media would hold him and the team to a higher standard. 38 years since last championship….

Here are the options for how to build as I see them:

Dodgers Model: Build a great farm system but don't be reliant on it. Add huge talent from the outside and let the farm fill the gaps/make trades.

Astros Model: Build a great farm system, make big trades for big guys, see progress, add a couple of FA and win. Then resign your own.

Rays Model: Build a great farm system, use it to build a good team. Trade guys at peak value. Resign very few. Acquire very few big FAs.

If we're implementing more of the Rays model than any others, the window starts in something like 2025 where our guys are not just here, but also mature major leaguers.

If we could do something closer to the Astros or even Dodgers model, we'd spend more sooner but have an actual chance to compete in 2023 and 2024.

It seems to me like this is not an Astros plan, it's a Rays plan, and thus a 2025+ plan.

Excellent post. Biggest factor is when Peter passes sadly, so might end up being the closest plan (Tampa 2025)

Nelson Cruz choosing between LAD and SD.

Wonder if we can trade Mancini to the loser?

Went to Nationals. Remember when DD didn’t think Cruz was worth the third year? LOL Good times. So much incompetent leadership in this franchise’s history. And he did ok considering ownership…

Thought it would be useful to have place to ask Orioles related quuestions about the new CBA.  Feel free to move or redirect me as necessary.

    I'll start:

I understand that there are restrictions on how often teams can pick in the draft lottery.  I assume that the lottery will begin with the 2023 draft.  With the Orioles drafting first this year, do we know if there will be any restrictions on how high the Orioles will be able to pick in 2023?

    Great resource: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/guide-to-the-new-cba-draft-lottery-expanded-playoffs-and-more/

Os can’t pick in top 6 more than 2 years in a row it states.
