They don’t move players mid-week these days.  Ask again if we don’t hear he’s moving by Monday.

He was batting well over 400 last week…

  2. 3 for 3 WITH 2 walks lol

    batting .467

    ops 1.207

WTH are they doing? This is nonsense. We all agree patience with him is the path but this is not helping him.

    Anyone know what’s going on?

  3. I didn’t see anyone post anything so here are the tidbits:

They pressed him on having 5 players this close to the draft. He said 5 or more. After he left, Ben & Kevin were surprised by this.

Ben specifically said (after Elias left) in some words or less, that Johnson’s size gave him concerns as a 1:1.

Elias only stayed for a half an inning again. Last time he was on, it was a real quick inning so figured he would stay and talk more, he didn’t. My .02: Why can’t Elias talk to the fans more? Seems important. Is it that much trouble to talk to Kevin & Ben for more than a half inning?

Lastly, heard from someone I know that has known inside info previously (and been accurate). He said that Sig is running a lot of the draft and Lee is his guy. This person said they have Jones as best player “hands down” but are negotiating still. He said he thinks it will be Lee when all is said and done. Take that for what’s it’s worth.

I was thinking Vespi was going to be a guy. After these last couple appearances, his stuff started looking very "meatbally" so now I'm not so sure he's a guy.  That's a bummer. Its basically Perez and Aikin for LH options moving forward. Might start making sense to using Hall as a Hader type reliever.

    I think that’s a good comparison.

That’s when you move him up.  When they stop pitching to him.  Young man looks like a pretty good hitter.  The stockpile of LH hitters is looking pretty solid with his addition and Cowser’s hot streak.

I had the same exact thought. Not sure why he’s still there, reminds of Grayson, he was filthy and kept pitching him.

So Nelson, most national media outlets think the Orioles draft strategy is bizarre and weird.  Care to point some of those out to the cult so we can read it to?

There was a link to a YouTube video, not national. Just read the mocks and go on you tube, commentary similar, not hard to find.

Why are you preparing for disappointment if you think he’s a good GM?

Down on his drafting but think his trades and FA acquisitions have been top notch?

A lot to prove in FA. Very disappointed last off-season. Player development was our weakest link by far, and you gotta recognize the improvement there, plus international.  His drafts are good overall it’s just that first.

Can you please provide one national outlet that describes the Orioles draft philosophy as bizarre or weird?  I try and read as much of that stuff as I can.

I literally posted one yesterday in the draft forum. One video referred to Elias’ draft strategy like the Viet Kong lol.

Could have sworn you mentioned about 4 names you were ok with and Parada was one of them.  Then you floated the idea of Lesko saying you should grab premium pitching when you can.  Have I got you confused with someone else?

I just explained, but yes I’d be ok with Parada if Elias refuses to take Jones which is likely.

I guarantee you if he goes over by 5% folks won't be saying "it is what it is".

I am sure you read national outlets, they all find out draft strategy unorthodox. Most call it weird, bizarre or thrifty. Yet, despite overwhelming info available to them, they will defend every single thing he does to the end. I don’t get it. Elias clearly does a good job overall, why not call out his mistakes fairly? I just don’t get it. When you are rebuilding, you want to be strong up the middle (Adley, check) but taking two corner OFers when a potential franchise SS (or two) are available is puzzling. I would not have taken Kerjstad but I get that approach for that draft. I do. Last year he got too cute imo.

and to your point, endless threads on anyone that dares criticize Elias picks, but no discussion why we aren’t going over our draft pool despite huge cost cutting/savings in recent years? Big picture!
