Vavra has a chance to be a high OBP and an average defensive 2B next season.  Grenier already is a major league caliber defensive SS.  Have to wait on the 2nd half to see if his offense is ready.  Dorrian has power at 3B. He is probably better than Franco.  Whoever is not ready by next season Elias has to supplement with FA.

Curious what caused Grenier to start hitting…he looked lost at the plate and then all of the sudden…I would absolutely love to see Buck Britton manage the Os at some point, class act and great manager/mentor/coach.

Dan Duquette rode Andy MacPhail's coattails to success.

OMG, this is not true and comical. AM was clearly a very very good trader, that’s it. His FA agent signings were atrocious, not any of Elias’ rebuild of player development or scouting. AM is a one-trick pony. Great guy, but DD (while also flawed) worked hard during his tenure and deserves credit.

Where did you rate him last year?  Where did you rate a 25 y/o OFer who was awful in 2019 in AAA, when everyone had a big year and showed no progress and no signs that he could even make a Ml roster.

How good did you think he was last year and where is the post that supports what your stance?

Please don’t talk to me. You are repulsive human being. Please block me & I will do the same.

  4. I remember reading post after post last year on here how he is a 4th OF at best with a weak arm and would never hit at the major league level. Many were calling for him to be removed from the 40 man even. Just something to remember when you read “analysis” on here.

Elias has been tremendous in improving player development, fantastic. Another plus on improving international focus. Those 2 are huge.

As most of you know, strongly disliked Kjerstad pick, nothing to do with health. In a city where Best Player Available is a city mantra & your team is laughingly bad consistently, don’t get cute.

What gems has he found in his tenure from the scrap heap? Alberto was awesome but let go for nothing, still miss that guy! Not super impressive here.

Rule 5 (not very important): loved the Martin pick! This year? Didn’t protect Pop, mistake. Took 2 pitchers not anywhere on the top 20 best available. Wells has been great, so kudos there!

If he takes BPA this year in the draft, I’d go B+.

He just pitched yesterday so he’s not available today.

Thanks. I doubt he was ever a consideration though. I think TE likely DFA-Ed soon or replaces Harvey possibly if not atrocious.

Eshelman is brutal. The last game I saw last year before Covid was Eshelman getting crushed by the Blue Jays. Try to look away tonight. It’s gonna be ugly

I think that is what Elias wants. Arizona is further ahead with no signs of life. My guess (and hope I am wrong) he is looking at trading Santander, Means & even Mancini.

The truth is this team is about to be sold but won’t happen until Peter passes. My guess is the new ownership group is already lined up & involves Ripken. That’s the move toward competitiveness, not actual results imo.

    I don't think anyone predicted a DFA.

    Of course he might clear.

Never been a fan but his defense improved and much worse on 40 man, puzzling.

Since the Os DFA-Ed Rodgers, he’s had two great starts in AAA for the Nats. I feel like they cut bait with him way too soon giving his surgery.

So you're saying if Elias had done more research on Kjerstad he would have known about the heart condition before the draft? Was there readily available evidence Kjerstad had a heart problem? Did other teams come out and say they were going to pass on him because of a heart condition?

Do you think the team doctors who did a physical on him before signing his contract didn't do an in-depth job for some reason?

You wouldn't have made this thread if we'd drafted Austin Martin and he came down with a heart condition. You're mad that Elias didn't pick a guy that publications (who by the way know less about most prospects than any major league team) thought was about six picks higher than the guy we took. And because you're mad, you've decided that everything that goes wrong with Heston Kjerstad is a black mark on Elias.

I'm sure if Kjerstad tripped walking down some stairs and had to miss the season because of a compound fracture, you'd probably be mad that Elias didn't properly test Kjerstad's coordination before signing him.

Consider that you're talking about something you know nothing about and should stop.

You don’t know a damn thing about me and what I know and don’t know or who I know or what I have heard. Such courage from posters on an internet message board. Go back to your mantra that Elias is god and Os are a well oiled machine. You are the one that should not talk about info you don’t know a thing about.

I don't think he's as bad as Hobgood. Not yet at least...

And even if he does turn out to be as bad as Hobgood... Elias and team really couldn't have seen it coming.

Yeah, why hold Elias accountable for anything? We are only the laughing stock of baseball that refuses to cut dead weight off the 40-man roster (Davis).

When you are rebuilding, you can’t afford to miss on the first round and you better do in depth research. I have heard that wasn’t done here because they thought they could get a couple down in price.

Again, I like Elias, but fans trust him way too much. Same posters singing the praises of Joe Jordan as he pissed away numerous drafts.

You did see where I said I hated the pick?

Him being the BPA has zero to do with his health issues, they are completely separate things.

I don't dislike the pick because he got sick.  I dislike the pick since I didn't think the guys we got overslot made up for what we lost going underslot.

    The 2 separate issues are:

    1. What you stated, spot on.

    2. They thought they could get Martin down in numbers is my understanding, they couldn’t. The due diligence on Kjerstad is in question.
