  1. I don't think they're going to keep him down for keeping him down's sake, but he still has fewer than 100 plate appearances in Triple-A, where he was good but not other-worldly in a SSS. I trust the org to make the smart decision. I've been on the Triple-A train for a while but I have come around on the possibility of him breaking camp with the club. The problem is, if he starts in Norfolk he probably won't be down for long, and that leaves the team exposed for him finishing top 2 in ROY. So that tilts it toward having him on the OD roster. Plus, the PPI is not just for ROY, but for top 3 in MVP and Cy Young in any pre-arb season, so it is *possible* that Carter wins ROY but Holliday finishes 3rd in MVP in two years and nets the team a pick. Probably not likely enough to enter the equation, just something I forgot about until recently. Credit to the union for making this interesting. Three years ago it would have been "keep him down for a month" and we would all move on.
  2. Uni Watch has reported today that the hat in question is the new BP cap, which is not the same as the Spring Training cap. So there you go. No new alt. https://uni-watch.com/2024/02/07/2024-mlb-batting-practice-cap-collection-appears-online/
  3. The "Gunnar Henderson treatment" is a bit of misnomer, since he didn't enter 2022 on the Major League radar. Keeping him down until August wasn't a slow play -- it was a fast play compared the ETA of late 2023 or 2024 you would have given in March of that year. Happy to hear that Mateo will be used in the OF. A Mateo that can play at SS and CF has a lot of value.
  4. Something about Bradish being number 38 is upsetting. It's a low-tier number, for the Jimmy Paredeses of the world. Should have gone for 37.
  5. In the last three seasons they have gone from 10k to 17k to 24k. I guess a linear regression would bring you to 30k but I would predict/be happy with closer to 27k.
  6. https://www.baltimoresun.com/2024/02/02/mlbs-approval-process-for-orioles-sale-to-david-rubenstein-is-moving-rapidly/?utm_medium=browser_notifications&utm_source=pushly&utm_campaign=4166582 Didn't see this posted anywhere; here is an article from earlier today. Two passages stand out to me: We have heard "weeks, not months" for a few days but this is the first time I've seen a real time estimate. I remember a while ago a rumor going around that the family would either choose to or be "forced to" sell the team once Peter died, but I don't recall anyone reputable confirming it and it seemed as much wishful thinking as reality. But I guess it was 100% true.
  7. The ultimate professional prospect: appeared on MLB.com's and Baseball America's Top 100 lists five times each. Not too many guys can say that.
  8. Does anyone know what the actual rule is? I know for going to second it has to be a bona fide "attempt" (hence the Mancini call was wrong) but in this case is it solely a matter of positioning?
  9. At least he's been consistent, nothing high but everything else goes
