  1. When you have a chance to win it all, you do whatever is necessary and if that means trading some of our younger bats so be it. There is no assurance that we will be in this position next year and beyond. We haven’t won it all since 1983 (40 years!) so I would gladly trade a Series win over a few years of futility. We need pitching badly and have a strong core of young hitters. While I don’t want to see some of these guys go, you have to make some tough decisions. Sitting on our hands especially at this trading deadline is unacceptable in my opinion.
  2. Guys act like Frazier kicked their dog or something. Just the amount of hate on the guy is mind boggling. He’s a vet that provides some clutch hitting, probably a good locker room guy, and while I understand $8 million on this team is a lot, it’s a one year deal that isn’t too much in comparison to the league. We are in first place partly because of his contributions, not in spite of it. Can we agree on that?
  3. You’re assumption is that Cowser will follow in the footsteps of Gunnar but he easily could follow in the footsteps of Stowers. I’m just saying there’s no assurance he will succeed at this level. I hope he does as an Orioles fan. I simply pointed out my opinion. My expectations for both Cowser and Westburg are fairly low given they are getting their first experience in the majors. However it doesn’t match up with us trying to get into the playoffs and beyond this year. Look I’m fairly disappointed with the last 2 games especially tonight being on national television (baseball fans could see us as a real contender) and since a couple wins could have put us in first place!
  4. I said he looks overmatched RIGHT NOW. I didn’t know that being BBFs with Gunnar automatically will make him a big league hitter. Take the blinders off and look at his second at bat where Hicks was on third with less than 2 outs. All he needed was to just put the ball in play. He was very late on mid 90 fastballs, swung at a couple 2 strike pitches that were completely out of the zone and then “the bat on his shoulder on a pitch that caught the inside strike zone. You can’t take a close pitch for a called 3rd strike in that situation.
  5. Cowser looks way overmatched right now and Ohearn has come back down to earth lately. Can’t get Cedric back soon enough and hopefully Mountcastle gets some starts against righties.
  6. There’s something to be said to have a veteran like Frazier. I get that Westburg and Cowser are our future but we need a guy like Frazier to produce this year if we have hopes for the playoffs and beyond. I for one hope he gets the majority of playing time for the rest of this season.
  7. Ortiz is untouchable? Please … no one is untouchable. This is baseball. Ortiz may turn out to be a good player but in his very brief playing time in the majors, I haven’t seen anything that makes me confident that he is a guaranteed major leaguer. There are plenty of 5’9 middle infielders with average power and average speed in the minors. I don’t see the attraction.
  8. #2? He’s been good and consistent but no better than Kremer or Wells. If we’re saying Gibson is our #1 then I feel Wells is our #2. Regardless we need trade for a true ace or at least someone to replace Irvin.
  9. Why is there no love for guys like Frazier or McKenna? I get it … you want to see the young guys at AAA called up and playing and see Frazier and McKenna essentially blocking the path of guys like Ortiz and Cowser. I see these guys as vets on a team trying to make the playoffs and beyond. Those young guys will get their chance at some point, probably not this year. Can’t we just support Frazier and McKenna? Heck I remember all the griping when we signed Hicks but that turned around quickly. Maybe Elias has a better idea than some of you.
  10. Besides the stats, Ortiz doesn’t pass the eye test as a hitter to me. Sure he has shown some pop in the minors but I haven’t seen any bat speed in his limited ABs in the majors. Sure it’s a small sample size and he is just getting experience. For a guy who is better as a slap hitter at 5’9 190, he also is not a threat on the bases. I really only see him as a nothing more than a utility player at best.
  11. There just isn’t pleasing some of you. Jorge may never be .300 hitter but he’s coming out of his slump a bit, plays good defense and still steals bases. I will take him over Ortiz who has shown to be overmatched so far. It’s one thing for Ortiz to struggle a bit but a 28% strikeout ratio isn’t too good. A rotation of Mateo, Frazier, Urias and Gunnar is just fine to me. Can’t we wait till next year to see how things play out and who should potentially replace him.
  12. Wasn’t too long ago that guys were saying Cano should be the closer over Felix. How things have changed.
  13. I said a couple weeks ago that Tyler is starting to become a solid #2 and today is just another example of that happening. The guy doesn’t throw as hard (mid to low 90s) as the rest of the rotation but he is pitching not throwing. 9Ks per 9 and a whip under 1.00. Awesome. Hopefully he just continues to thrive. I see him as a game 2 starter. Gibson is a vet and has solid numbers but lets not forget his ERA has been over 5 the last couple years. He has never really pitched in the post season so you don’t know if he can be clutch. Hopefully he can be consistent as the summer drags on. My vote will be an ace that we hopefully trade for. If we were to get that guy whoever it may be, we would be set with 3 starters for a series with Bradish or Kremer as a potential 4th.
  14. Fair enough and for the most part I agree with you. I’m not saying Monty is the “guy” but we don’t know how much the vertigo has affected him this year. Bringing up Cowser or Heston isn’t going to do it for us this YEAR in my opinion. Tonight is the perfect example of having that middle of the lineup power slugger. On a night where Berrios was looking like Pedro Martinez having that one guy who can hit that one mistake to get us going would be huge. George Springer did it for Toronto. Earl believed in fundamentals, pitching and the three run homer to win games. I realize this team is not built that way but still can hope for it. Maybe Elias will work his magic and pull one out.
  15. @Aristotelian What is your issue with my posts … you feel that much of a need to respond back on every single posts I make about Monty? You have your opinion and I have mine. You’re not going to convince me to think like you. You can point out any stat you want but who in our lineup is the type of hitter that scares a pitcher Earl Weaver style? We have guys who have some pop but no one who is going to be a Vlad Guerrero or even a George Springer type hitter. Maybe Gunnar will be at some point in his career but not this year. I’m looking at this year and getting to the playoffs. I personally think we need Mounty to help us get there. Period.
  16. Good response. I have no skin in the game with Mounty other than he is the only guy in our lineup that can jack a three run homer on a consistent basis. Do we have other guys with pop? Sure but we definitely need that power bat in the middle of the lineup. Maybe Ohearn can be that answer and if so, I’m all for moving on from Mounty. Maybe we trade for that right handed slugger and if so, terrific. Then I’m onboard with moving on from Mounty. There have been many cases of teams running young sluggers out of town. Hell Texas gave up on Chris Davis pretty quickly. I just don’t want us to make the same mistake with Mounty.
  17. I know the difference but thanks for explaining it to me. What I’m trying to say is that there are guys on here who don’t want to see Mounty in the organization any longer. Heck look at the thread started asking what is his trade value.
  18. Optioned or designated for assignment … merely semantics. Bottom line there were plenty of guys who was ready to never see Mounty in a Orioles uniform again.
  19. Not true. There have been several post about downright DFA ing him. Heck there’s a thread talking about what if any trade value he has.
  20. Where are all the guys slamming Mounty telling us he should be released and that he is a bum and worthless? I’m sure the vertigo has been affecting him for a while now and not just when he stopped playing. Maybe we can give him a little benefit of the doubt before running him out of town. Same goes with Elias decision to bring up a catcher instead of Westburg or Cowser. McCann has been very solid but wasn’t he hit on the hand pretty hard the other day. Maybe he isn’t 100% and Adley needs more days off.
  21. Frazier is a vet who has playoff experience and it is kind of hard to measure the value he has in a clubhouse with so many young players. Hopefully some of the fans realize he was a good signing and limit the amount of criticism he gets.
  22. Sky is always falling with some people. Adley could be hitting like Ohtani and it still wouldn’t be good enough for some.
  23. Are Adleys hitting numbers overall pretty good especially for a catcher? He’s on pace to hit 20+ home runs which is not common for most catchers especially a catcher who is in his second full season. He also has more walks than Ks. Name me another catcher who has that let alone any positional player. That’s why I’m saying nitpicking. Fact baseball has made it much easier to steal bases. While Adley is not Pudge Rodriguez, he’s more than adequate especially for a 2nd year guy. One aspect of defense that can’t be measured with stats is how he handles the pitching staff. For a young guy catching a young staff, it seems like he is doing more than a good job.
  24. No it isn’t. If you’re paid like a superstar then fans should expect better numbers. My point is that the fans nitpicking at Adley is hyper critical.
  25. Huge difference is Rodriguez signed probably the most lucrative contract in baseball history. If I’m a Mariners fan, I would expect him to hit like the best shortstop in baseball. He’s still on pace to hit more dingers than last year. Adley makes less than a million dollars a year. So who’s the better value player?
