What is your takeaway from the Yankees series?
BirdCakes22 replied to Sports Guy's topic in Orioles Talk
Funny you say that AFTER the bullpen completely shut down the Yankees. They were dominant in the most important series so far and will only get better once Wells and Grayson come back. Irvin will be in the bullpen and possibly Means. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and I think the Orioles will continue to add games to their lead over the long haul - they are just better IMO. -
Something that I think is overlooked by a lot of people - small tears can heal - it doesn't just stay a tear and then wait to be a more substantial tear. I've had a small tear in my shoulder (I'm a tennis play/teaching pro) that competes nationally. It takes about 4-6 weeks for a small tear to heal. It's not something that just gets worse. It can get better if you are careful and rest it. My shoulder feels completely fine. I get that I'm not a MLB pitcher, but he's a lot younger than me and his body heals much faster and my shoulder is being used extensively.

What happens next? Mayo debut or Holliday back up?
BirdCakes22 replied to sportsfan8703's topic in Orioles Talk
Jackson had 3 hits last night. He had some bad luck early with expanded strike zones, etc. that started to play on his mind. If we get an extra year of control by waiting a month I'm all for it. It's not like Urias is hitting. Mateo has been solid and in the field I am very comfortable with him - especially at second. Urias right now may have a slightly higher floor, but the young players have way higher ceilings. If we can get Holliday going by mid summer, the team reaches another level. -
I think the Yankees will destroy Oriole pitching this week...
BirdCakes22 replied to Roy Firestone's topic in Orioles Talk
They have been way better than they should be IMO. Admittedly, or obviously, I haven't been paying close attention. I just don't think they will continue to perform way above their potential. I just like tooling on the Yanks. The big O of the Yanks was pretty fierce last night. I also don't think they can win the marathon the MLB season is due to their injury prone starters and we'll have a comfortable lead as the season progresses. -

Well, that's great, because the Yankees don't have great pitching so we'll be fine. Last time I checked Judge was awful. I'm sure he'll snap out of it, but we thought that about Chris Davis too. Orioles take 3 of 4. -
Would you trade Kjerstad for an elite controlled reliever?
BirdCakes22 replied to OriolesMagic83's topic in Orioles Talk
We have Means coming back soon, which means Wells will probably go to the bullpen - or maybe even Irvin. No way I give up Kjerstad for anyone other than a top line starter that we have control over for a long time - like another #1. Kjerstad could be a 40 home run guy. -
I was closing my eyes or looking away too! That camera from center field was awful. At least I got to see the game on MLB.tv - Palmer is always a fun listen.

I wonder if the blackout rules apply to spring training games. I'm in CT and normally can't get Red Sox or Yankee games on MLB.TV. Don't have cable...for these games I could always watch them later I guess.

Great news - cut the cord and I would think an option of buying a package to view the games will then be on the table. Each team should really have their own app that allows you to just view that team's games. I am out of state and have the MLB package. It's much better than paying ridiculous fees for Comcast all year. I will be paying $95 for the MLB package in a week or so. That gives me access to all of the teams, which I don't really use until the end of the season during a pennant race.

Me too. I was also impressed with Westburg - obviously Gunnar stepped up, but I like the fight in Westie. I would hold on to him for sure and not include him in a trade. Have to keep Gunnar, Westburg, Jackson H together. DL Hall and Grayson are in that same young group. Lots of others - we'll see who ends up sticking next year. We may not win more games than this year, but we should be a better team based on experience alone.

scratch that, I was 13.

Looks like Kremer is up tomorrow night - Let's gOOOOOOOO's!

I was 17 - loved that team. I was heartbroken when they lost the WS in 79' to the Pirates after being up 3-1.

Such an amazing night - what a great team! They're so much fun to watch. I have a feeling Toronto makes it into the playoffs and we play/beat them in the first series and then we avoid Houston in the ALDS. One step at a time, but I wouldn't be shocked if it all works out for us. Orioles Magic is in full force!

That would be epic to have Jim Palmer throwing out the first pitch at Camden Yards of the 2023 WS!!!!

I totally agree. Not many Orioles have won multiple WS titles, Hall of Famer, Cy Young, and is still well connected to the team. It's really a no brainer to me.
