The loss snaps a 10-game winning streak at home and is the first loss at Prince George’s Stadium for Bowie since June 16.

Richmond took the lead for good at 6-3 with a four-run third as a solo shot from C.J. Hinojosa tied the game at three and after a walk, hit by pitch and single loaded the bases, Dylan Davis gave the visitors the lead for good with a two-run single.

Baysox starter Matthew Grimes (3-8) allowed the six runs on seven hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.1 IP.

Bowie grabbed an early 3-0 lead with a three-run first as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out before Garabez Rosa delivered an RBI single, DJ Stewart plated a run with a sac fly and Aderlin Rodriguez knocked home a run of his own via an RBI groundout.

Davis’ two-run shot off of Grimes in the top of the second brought the Flying Squirrels within a run at 3-2.

Richmond starter Tyler Herb (1-0) surrendered five runs on eight hits while walking three and fanning four in five innings of work. RHP Tyler Cyr (1.2 IP, 1 H) got the final four outs to pick up his 11th save.

Three straight walks started the fourth inning for the Squirrels beforeBrandon Bednar came through with a two-run single as part of a three-run frame to stretch the lead to 9-3.

All three runs were charged to Baysox RHP Jason Garcia (2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, K).

Adrian Marin and Mike Yastrzemski started the fifth for Bowie with back-to-back singles before Austin Hays came through with an RBI single and Stewart followed with a sac fly to bring the hosts within 9-5.

KC Hobson’s solo shot in the sixth off of RHP Jefri Hernandez (3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K) made it a 10-5 game in favor of the Flying Squirrels.

Rodriguez’s two-run shot in the bottom half of the eighth inning cut the Richmond lead to 10-7. The home run was Rodriguez’s 13th of the season.

FOUR HOME RUNS HELP PELICANS DEFEAT KEYS 9-5 MYRTLE BEACH USES A PAIR OF BACK-TO-BACK BLASTS

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (49-37/6-10) used a pair of back-to-back home runs to defeat the Frederick Keys (36-38/6-9) 9-5 on Saturday night at Nymeo Field. The Pelicans used their second set of home runs as part of a five-run ninth inning.

Jesse Hodges got the scoring started in the second inning with a home run to left field off of Keys starter Keegan Akin. The big fly ended a stretch of 18.1 scoreless innings for Akin. The lead would be extended by the next batter Matt Rose, as he launched a home run of his own to left field, making it 2-0.

The Keys struck back in the fourth inning to pull the game to within a run.Ademar Rifaela singled to lead off the frame, and Shane Hoelscher added a single two batters later. Alex Murphy then walked, loading the bases for Glynn Davis. Davis singled to bring in Rifaela, making it 2-1 and keeping the bases loaded. That is when Armando Araiza lifted a fly ball to shallow center field. The catch was made, and Hoelscher hesitated after being caught midway down the third base line. The rundown ended with Hoelscher being tagged at the plate, and the inning came to a close.

The score remained 2-1 until the seventh, when the Pelicans added two runs against Karl Triana. Tyler Alamo hit a single, and advanced to third on a double by Jesse Hodges. Rose then hit a ball off the end of the bat to first base. Alamo headed home, and the throw from Murphy got past Araiza, allowing Alamo to score and Hodges to come around from second, moving the lead to 4-1.

Frederick made it a one run game after eight. After Ricardo Andujargrounded out, Jay Gonzalez singled and stole second. Mountcastle walked, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. With two in scoring position, Rifaela singled to right field, bringing in both men and making it a 4-3 game.

Myrtle Beach then pushed across five runs in the ninth. Rose led off with a double, and scored on a Connor Myers double. Following an intentional walk to Bryant Flete, Mario Alcantara balked and allowed Myers and Flete to move to second and third. P.J. Higgins hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Myers. The Pelicans then hit back-to-back home runs for the second time in the game. Trent Giambrone launched a two-run homer to left and was followed by Eddy Martinez’ second home run in as many days, pushing the lead to 9-3.

The Keys made it interesting in the ninth, plating a pair of runs. After Murphy and Davis were retired, Armando Araiza crushed a solo home run to left field. Andujar was then hit by a pitch, and Gonzalez legged out an infield single. The ball got away from Rose, allowing Andujar to score the Keys fifth run. Mountcastle would then walk, but a ground out of Rifaela secured the Pelicans 9-5 win.

Thomas Hatch (4-7) picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing one run. Akin (6-6) took the loss, surrendering just two hits on the two home runs while striking out nine.

‘BIRDS CAPITALIZE IN SIXTH; DIETZ WINS FIRST
Woody ties it with two-run double, flips over railing for catch in 5-3 win

HICKORY, NC - The Delmarva Shorebirds took advantage of three HIckory Crawdads errors in the sixth, scoring five runs on the way to a 5-3 win on Saturday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Down 3-0, Stuart Levy led off the sixth by reaching on a two-base error at short by Anderson Tejeda. Cole Billingsley followed with a groundball single to right, moving Levy up to third. Jake Ring hit a tapper back to the mound that starter Sal Mendez couldn’t handle; his error loaded the bases with one out. Up came Preston Palmeiro, who poked one through the hole on the left side to score Levy and make it 3-1.

Jake Lemoine came in from the bullpen after the Palmeiro single. On a 3-2 pitch, Collin Woody belted a double to deep left center, scoring Billingsley and Ring to tie it at 3-3. After Chris Clare was robbed of a base hit on a nice play at third, Frank Crinella lifted one into foul ground down the right field line. Franklin Rollin slid to make the catch, and an aware Palmeiro raced home to score the go-ahead run on the shallow sac fly. Ryan McKenna followed with a tough grounder to second, beating it out for an infield single and going to second on a throwing error. Woody scored to make it a five-spot in the inning, and the Shorebirds (10-7, 39-46) had a 5-3 lead.

The bullpen locked it down from there as Kory Groves and Steven Klimek combined to pitch four scoreless innings. Groves handled the sixth and seventh for his second hold of the year, getting some help in the seventh when Levy threw out Blaine Prescott trying to steal second.

In the eighth, Klimek worked around a leadoff double by Alex Kowalczyk, retiring the next three in a row. Tanner Gardner lifted a two-out popup deep into foul ground on the left side, but Woody sprinted over from third to make the catch, flipping over the side railing and holding on while sticking the landing. Klimek was perfect in the ninth to complete the save.

Matthias Dietz (1-7) benefited from the five-run sixth and earned his first career win. Dietz battled through five innings, allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out three. The Orioles’ No. 12 prospect had been 0-10 to start his career despite notching six quality starts in Delmarva this season.

Mendez (4-6) took the loss for the Crawdads (10-7, 37-50), giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits in five-plus innings. Klimek’s save was his fifth of the season and third in the past nine games.

Hickory took an early lead with three runs in the first two innings. Leody Taveras singled with two outs in the first, and Kowalczyk walked. Dietz threw two straight wild pitches, allowing Taveras to score, and Tejeda rolled a single up the middle to bring in Kowalczyk and make it 2-0. Gardner led off the second with a double and scored three batters later on a Prescott sac fly.

McKenna finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Billingsley had two hits and a run. Woody’s two-run double gives him four in the first two games of the series after his two-run homer on Friday night.

Milton Ramos made his debut at shortstop for Delmarva after his trade from Columbia, going 0-for-4 at the plate. He turned a pair of 6-3 double plays and made a leaping catch on a pop to shallow center in the seventh.

Charles Leblanc finished 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Crawdads, while Taveras went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
