Off-topic. Why is it that when managers aren’t renewed/extended at the end of their contracts the press says that they were fired, but when teams fire a player while they are actively under contract the press says they were released?
By the managers’ standard, we’d be saying Santander is being fired once his contract expires this off-season. And that Cal Ripken Sr. was released eight games into the 1988 season.
If he wasn’t a catcher Rutschman would be one of the few exceptions that I’d extend long term. He’s a winner and a natural leader. Otherwise, unless the player is the one driven for long term security and there’s a financial upside/discount for the team, you have to ride them as far as you can and then let ‘em go.
I think Elias has a really difficult job ahead of him in the next year +. Maintaining the same fire/winning culture this team has established while going through a lot of player turnover is going be a challenge for Hyde too. Sorry…..I veered off-subject
Brnovich with an impressive first start last night. He always had great breaking stuff, just limited by his velocity. Was throwing as hard as 96 last night. If he sustains that he’s definitely put himself on the prospect map.
The Marlins are the rare case of being awful and having an excellent young controllable starter. We have a few surplus prospects. Make a move before someone beats us to it.
Charles throwing a 90 mph change up. Don’t see that every day. Gotta figure we’ll be seeing him sooner rather than later in Baltimore. I’ve never actually seen him pitch.
Cowser, Kjerstad, Stowers, Norby are all MLB ready. Mayo too, but I’m just talking outfielders. If we’re not using that depth to go get someone like Luzardo (Marlins are awful!), we need to make some room.
