2022 Draft Tracker
Tony-OH replied to Tony-OH's topic in O's Amateur Draft and International Signings
Well, three picks in and no pitching. I thought some of the high end high school pitching might sway Elias, but he's sticking to his draft the bats philosophy so far. -
2022 2nd Round Pick (#42): Max Wagner - 3B - (Jr) Clemson University https://www.mlb.com/video/2022-draft-max-wagner-3b?t=mlb-draft College Stats Initial Take: A fast riser this spring who came out of just about no where showed plus power, mostly to his pull side, but the power is legitimate. Drafted as a 3B but several scouts think he might be better at 2B even though most accounts call him a solid glove at 3B. Smashed 27 bombs in just 259 PAs at Clemson while slashing .370/.496/.852/1.348. There is some swing and miss, but he'll draw some walks as well. With a lot of 3B depth in the system his selection was a little surprising but he obviously was the highest guy on their board.

Ok, I doubt he's going to take more than slot, so if the Orioles save some $$$ on the Holliday signing, maybe one of these high school arms will fall to the next two rounds? Or do the Orioles pick two more college OFs. lol -

2022 1st Round Pick Comp A (#33): Dylan Beavers - OF - (Jr) California University https://www.mlb.com/video/2022-draft-dylan-beavers-of?t=mlb-draft https://www.si.com/college/cal/other-sports/dylan-beavers-hopes-for-mlb-draft Stats at Cal Initial Take: It did not take long for Elias to take a College outfielder when he took this toolsy left-handed hitter out of California. Beavers is a guy that scouts were split a bit due to some swing mechanics issues that some feel will need to be reworked in the minors. He slashed .291/.427/.634/1.060 with 17 HR and 18 doubles, 51 BB, and 54 K in 272 PAs. Defensively he's probably going to have to move from center field but his arm plays enough in RF and he could have enough speed to cover spacious left field in Camden Yards. The next 5 out of 6 picks after he was selected were pitchers.
