  1. I never said a lot, but there is a prominent poster on here that was never on Mountcastle and always thought he was over rated because he was too focused on just the BB-K rate while not understanding the game has changed.
  2. Short sightedness by MLB until of late has really caused the taped years of baseball to fall into really poor quality.
  3. Mountcastle is settling into the type of hitter I expected. I had to argue through the people that kept pointing to his poor K-AA ratios in the minors but they did not take into consideration the high average and the ability to hit the ball hard in and around the strikezone. Since May 7th, Mountcastle has slashed .287/.344/.564/.908 with 25 HRs, 16 2Bs in his last 372 PAs. I've used the word impact bat and was shouted down by some who thought he was more of a .750 OPS guy because they felt his OBP would be very low. While his defensive values this year have been dragged down by his disasterous LF time, he's settled in to be a solid average defensive 1B. The future is bright for this young man and the Orioles with him at 1B.
  4. Has anyone done the work to see if this is the most major league debuts for an Orioles team? Has to be.
  5. Nevin will be DFA'd before setting the rosters.
  6. Yep, the hands are his only question mark at SS. The range and arm are very good.
  7. Remember, the power rankings are not fully fleshed out prospect rankings. When I have time to really sit down and analyze the numbers, do additional specific scouting on players as well as talk to scouts, then I'll have a final rankings. I do like Vavra a bit and think he's better than the overall AA numbers he's put up, but for a guy who basically skipped High-A his .388 OBP and .818 OPS sure don't look too bad to me.
  8. Two things in the discussion I'd like to highlight. Aberdeen needs to bring their power alleys in about ten feet. if you pull the ball to either side you are fine, but anything left-center to right-center takes an absolute bomb to get out. The other thing is I think Henderson's placement next year is dependent upon a few things but my guess is he will start the year in AA. I'd like for the Orioles to decide what position they think he will play in the major league (3B or SS ) and keep him there for most of the year and not bounce him back and forth between the two. While Henderson has the arm to play on the left side of the infield, he has some questionable hands and he doesn't throw particularly well on the move. Neither Westburg or Henderson have the range you would like to have at the position so neither may end up at SS at the major league level with Henderson most likely ending up at 3B (if the hands come around) and Westburg at 2B. Saying that, Westburg is pretty steady over all at SS so if he can get the bat going, the Orioles might be willing to lose a little range at SS to get his bat in the lineup there. Ortiz should be back so he's in the equation somewhere at Bowie and Grenier could always come back as well though I think they will push him to AAA due to his glove being ready.
  9. He can hit a little too.. https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/mateo-s-extra-base-hits-as-oriole-thru-9-7
  10. Urias is more a of utility guy than a real piece for me. He's probably second amongst the position players.
  11. That's like saying, I enjoyed OJ as a running back until he killed his wife and some unlucky guy. Ok, maybe not quite as bad!
  12. The more I watch of Mateo the more I think he should be the very day SS in 2022. He's got all the tools and although he may make the occasional error, if he can continue to be an effective hitter above .720 OPS, i think he can be ok over there. He's some of his action at SS. https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/mateo-playing-ss-with-o-s He's the first guy that Orioles have grabbed off the waiver wire that looks like he could end up a piece.
  13. I'm just wondering why you think this? Mullins has always been a guy with pop and obviously he's found a way to tap into it more often this year. Will he flirt with 30 homers every year, maybe not, but I can see him being an 18-25 guy.
  14. Yet statcast info shows him as a 7 Outs above average for a center fielder and 2% success added. That matches my scouting as well. There were a few balls in that I can recall that he may have been able to catch but may have been scared off by an infielder coming out that could have hurt his numbers, but I question any data that puts him as a below average defender. His reaction has been his worse (-1.1 ft/s below average) but he's never been super great in this aspect. He makes up for it with his burst (1.4 ft/s above average) and career best 0.5 route which gives him an above average 0.7 ft/sec better than average while covering an above average 34.3 f/s. He's one of the best and statcast which is not subjective in any way pretty much proves that.
  15. Baseball Savant has a lot of good overall information but it lacks individual games or plays for defensive data from what I can tell. They lost the creator Daren Willman to the Rangers and the site has not taken any steps forward of late. it's still pretty great though thanks to Willman.
  16. You can put them together yourself. Go to the game recap in baseball savant and at the end of the tabs, there is one called "film room" where you can basically see every pitch or at bat and then put ten of the clips together in a "film" and share. It's actually pretty damn great. My only wish was there was a way to "play all" after making a selection.
  17. or "namethatwillneverbespoken" Kinda like a did with that kicker who missed that FG in the Patriots game.
  18. Actually I thought his fastball command was pretty good with his fastball.. Watch this video. He basically had the ball near the mitt in every pitch. The hard hits were on fastballs up though and at around 2300 spin rate on a 94 MPH fastball, he's going to need to keep it up and in on major league hitters. https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/baumann-s-fastball-in-debut His slider did not have the movement that he's had in the minor leagues at time. Looks like he was over throwing it and it was more of a cutter vs that good breaking slider that I've seen in the past. https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/baumann-s-slider-in-debut Here's his three curveballs and one change. I think he under throws his curveball honestly and believe it could be a good pitch. He really doesn't have good feel for the change but as you can see, it gets some decent movement. https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/baumann-s-curveball-and-change Overall, the stuff was below average movement wise but he commanded his fastball well which allowed him to get some louder outs. It was only one game and his first game in the MLB, so can't make any assessments off that one outing, but he his expected results were not very good which made him a bit lucky last night. The good news is I've seen his stuff better in the minors this year, though I have to admit, he's not the guy we saw in Bowie in 2019 when he was sitting mid 90s and hitting upper 90s at times including 99 MPH in the 9th hitter of his no-hitter. His stuff is similar to the Giants' Anthony DeSclafani though DeScianfani is able to throw a sinker and it appears the Orioles have gone with a full 4-seam approach to Baumann's offerings now.
  19. Man that's a lot of writing for a guy that we should have already forgotten his name. I'm not interested in playing the "what would you do" game any longer as we've all had our say. Thankfully for all involved, Davis is gone and we can stop talking about him until the next thread where someone will want to dredge this mistake back up. All I know is the Orioles should never acquire or sign a guy named Davis again because that last name is cursed in Baltimore. Glenn was the worse trade they ever made that started the Orioles into their spiral into irrelevance and of course we know Chris is the worse signing in team history. Maybe we should make a pact to not use the word Davis on OH? lol
  20. Speak for yourself. There are plenty of people that would have handled things differently and there are several cases of MLB players giving tens of millions of dollars back by retiring because they knew they no longer could earn that money. But, as it's been said many times already, this situation is over. I'd be happy to never hear of his name again. His legacy is of embarrassment for him and the Orioles organization. Thankfully that page has turned.
  21. Burdi is an interesting case because the arm is nice, but the results have been awful for the last two years now. I think they are going to give a long look this September and if they think they can fix him, they'll keep him around. There are a lot more guys I'd drop off the 40-man first than him.
  22. I have no idea if Davis "fleeced the Orioles," but I can guarantee Davis did what he thought would have give him the most money.
  23. Sorry, I thought we were discussing Bautista since this is his thread.
  24. Bautista. It will be interesting to see how they handle Burdi. Really nice arm but he's been awful for two years now. I think they keep him and see if they can fix him, but if they have a roster crunch he could go.
