  1. This is 100% the strategy by Elias to get through this season without hurting or losing any pitcher of value. The only guy I like a little bit out of them is Conner Greene, and he's very inconsistent despite the good stuff. Watkins is here to eat as many innings as possible. The rest are just guys to eat innings as much as possible, then DFA if they need the roster room for another guy to do the same. The Orioles don't want to add any real prospects to the 40-man for several reasons, one of which is the agreement between the players and MLB expires on 1 December I believe. If for some reason there is a work stoppage, they probably prefer to have as many real prospects not on the 40-man so in theory they would still be able to have their minor league season next year.
  2. Baseball is a funny game!! 19 straight and facing Ohtani with a rookie pitcher? Orioles win of course!
  3. You two need to take this offline. Stop the back and forth and name calling. You are both better than this.
  4. Depends on the room! I think you know me well enough that I'm not easily impressed by new prospects. I make them show me why I should be impressed besides their draft status and bonus. Mayo just kinda jumps out at me like Machado did. I'm not saying he's Machado, but he's the last guy I saw at 19 that just jumped out at me as not looking like the others.
  5. Let's hope this is a "problem" the Orioles have in about two years or so. I hope they both look like starters so one can be moved for pitching.
  6. Maybe, maybe not. Mayo has shown much better played discipline than Henderson showed and he put up much better FCL numbers than Henderson. We have to remember that Mayo, had he had a real senior year, may have gone much higher. I know Henderson is playing SS but I think he's a 3B long term so they may end up playing the same position unless Mayo has to move off the hot corner (not anytime soon). Obviously Henderson's lack of plate discipline has exposed him a bit in High A and we haven't seen Mayo long enough in Low-A to get a real good assessment of his hitting ability so it may be a bit premature to move him over Henderson, but I have to admit, Mayo just gets me excite when I watch him play and although I like Henderson, his fielding woes and struggles at High-A have dimmed his star a bit.
  7. Norby looks like the better defender at 2B to me and looks like he has a little more pop than Vavra. But, Vavra hits left-handed and I like his approach as well.
  8. Baseball is a such a weird game, watch this be the one we end up winning somehow! We look on digits like we literally have no chance.
  9. Watkins' last five starts combined: 25.2 IP, 30 ER, 8 BB, 15 K, .356/.395/.610/1.006 and 10.52 ERA. Probably time to bring Wells up and send him back down. nice little story for a bit, but the clock struck 12 and Watkins is back to being a pumpkin.
  10. Seems that Ellis will be making his first major league start.
  11. I've watched Norby since his arrival in Delmarva and he's an impressive hitter. He's hits the ball with authority to all fields and although it looks like he has gap power right now, with a little more lift we could see homers start to come. He's got a really good eye at the plate and rarely chases so far. Defensively, he moves well enough side to side but one play he had to come in on he may have misjudged the runner's speed and was late. He looks like he turns the DP ok, but I've seen a few throws that shows me why he's at second base. The arm will play but he probably won't be making up the middle backhand plays too often. I really like what I see so far from him.
  12. I do think we'll see players like Cowser and Norby fast tracked a bit. I think they both start the year in Aberdeen but could move to Bowie if they can get off to good starts. it's not out of the question that they get moved to AA to start the year next year.
  13. Right. This is Rutschman's first professional season. If this was last year, would anyone be upset that he's in AAA to end the year and on the cusp of the big leagues? The missed COVID year makes some of these promotions seem slow, but honestly, Elias has pushed several prospects through multiple levels this year.
  14. He is definitely trending up. The more I've watched him at Delmarva the more I really think he may be something special. I just really like his ABs and for young inexperienced hitter, he really doesn't get fooled all that much. He has BIG time power that comes from a violent, but smooth swing. Defensively he's got plenty of arm for the hot corner but still needs to work on his foot work on his throws. My biggest concern for him over there is his height. There are not many long time, 6-5 third basemans in MLB history. Kris Bryant is 6-5 and has played some third base, but they also used him in the outfield and first base. Alec Bohm is 6-5 but has been well below average defensively so far in the big leagues and may need to move to first base, Scott Rolen was 6-4 and played an effective 3B across his entire career, as well as Mike Lowell, but those guys are few and far between. Obviously Cal Ripken was 6-4 and some say 6-5 and ended up playing 3B effectively after moving there later in his career. I haven't seen enough of him defensively to say he'll need to move so he certainly should play there everyday for now. Either way, I love the K-BB ratio combined with the huge power and the good arm combo. He's not going to win a ton of sprint races, but he's not base clogger so if he needed to move to the right field he would probably be fine speed wise. He has impressed me. He's the one guy on Delmarva that looks like a "can't miss guy" and he's the youngest. Not to say I don't like others there, but Mayo right now really has stood out to me.

    FCL happenings

I haven't seen him play, but I imagine of the team felt he had center field capability he would not be playing 1B.
  16. I think he will depend on a few things, but as a $1 million dollar bonus player at 19 years old, I would think he'd have an opportunity to start there next year. He's a high quality make up kid so unless he was totally dominated next spring, I can seen him getting 400 PAs next year there.
  17. Kremer just pitched in relief yesterday for Norfolk, so I doubt it's him.
  18. Santander has the talent to be a solid everyday major league outfielder on an upper Division team IF he can stay healthy. the problem is he just can't stay healthy for an entire year and he's proven he doesn't hit well when not at or near 100%. He'll definitely get tendered this offseason though.
  19. I don't know if Hyde is a the manager for the future, but I do know he can't really be evaluated with the "talent" he's been given to work with over the last three years.
  20. I don't think he's going to resign because he knew what he was going to go through with this rebuild. I know this can't be easy for him or anyone else since everyone prefers to win, but unless you asked to resign, you don't in these cases.
  21. I'm going purely off his scouting reports from the draft and his signing bonus. I've seen a few swings on video but not enough to make any kind of assessment. He's only caught 2 games so far but has caught 2 or 3 runners attempting to steal. I look forward to seeing him next year in Delmarva.
  22. That actually is a very good thing to point out and I agree. His hips just explode through the ball and he has some of the best rotation in the organization.
  23. He's 17. I'll fix it. I just cut and pasted that player info from Frobby's post earlier in the thread.
