  1. Your point being what, that one guy on the team uses a sinker so it proves otherwise?
  2. Just for fun, I'd thought I'd put together a 1st year all-star lineup for 2021. They don't necessarily have to be the best prospect, but who had the best season in their debut professional seasons. Need at least 100 PAs and must have played the majority of their time at that position or 35 IP for a starter, 20 as a reliever to qualify. If a player made the overall 2021 Hangout minor league All-Star team they were not eligible. 1B: Jacob Teter (A-) - .305/.401/.492/.893, 11 2b, 3 HR in 137 PAs 2B: Angel Tejada (DSL) - .326/.404/.435/.839 6 2b, 0 HR in 104 PAs SS: Frederick Bencosme (DSL)- .310/.365/.451/.816 6 2b, 2 HR in 158 PAs 3B: Coby Mayo (FCL/A-) - .319/.426/.555/.981 14 2B, 9 HR in 216 PAs LF: Donta Williams (FCL/A-) - .291/.441/.360/.802 4 2B, 0 HR in 111 PAs CF: Colton Cowser (FCL/A-) - .375/.490/.492/.982 8 2B, 2 HR in 149 PAs RF: John Rhodes (FCL/A-) - .259/.350/.352/.701 4 2B, 2 HR in 123 PAs C- Samuel Basallo (DSL) - .244/.344/.420/.764 8 2B, 5 HR in 151 PAs SP: Cesar Alvarez (DSL) - 2.49 ERA, 19 BB and 63 K in 47 IP RP: Elchero Francisca (DSL) - 3.08 ERA, 23 BB and 39 K in 38 IP
  3. No offense Patrick, but this is what you call a fact based Hangout smackdown!
  4. Good 'ol Andino. He will always be a cult hero like Tito Landrum for that one base hit!
  5. Vavra would have been the selection had he had enough PAs.
  6. Glad to hear things went well old friend. Keep us posted!
  7. You mean like in the COVID shortened 5 round draft where they got Mayo in the 4th round with the savings they got from getting Kjerstad instead of Austin Martin? Who would you rather have in the system right now? Martin, who slashed just .270/.414/.382/.796 with the same power and defensive concerns (under .900 fld PCT at SS) or Mayo and Kjerstad?
  8. You mean when the Orioles were yo-yoing him back and forth between AAA and the majors, pitching him in relief for an inning or two after sitting for 10+ days at a time? Probably not the best time to make an opinion of a guy.
  9. You are a tough grader. According to Baseball Savant, Lowther has above average movement on his sldier and curveball both vertically and horizontally and his fastball has 93 % more movement horizontally than the average fastball (+/- 2 MPH) from his 91 MPH average. On Lowther's 141 breaking balls, batters have hit .121 (.207 xBA), SLG .152 (.290 xSLG), 196 wOBA (xwOBA .279) and have gotten a 36.9% whif rate. You sure you want to say "with his stuff?"

    Qualified

I think his health has the most to do with his success this year. Hays has always hit well when healthy but takes some time to get his timing back after injuries. After slashing just .108/.175/.189/.364 in his first 10 starts (11 games overall) after his injury in May, Hays has slashed .274/.315/.503/.818 the rest of the year so far. He'll need to improve his hitting against RHP (.220/.280/.404/.684 in 300 PAs this season) next year, but otherwise it's been a good season for him.
  11. I think the only adjustments that needs to be made is understanding he situation of the game and when to go ahead and cut back on the swing. He really makes pretty good swing decisions overall.
  12. Mayo didn't have enough PAs to qualify. I plan to do a 1st year list shortly and I can guarantee he will be on there!
  13. Mayo just didn't have enough PAs. I plan to make an All 1st year All-Star team as well!
  14. A lot of bad hitters behind him? This is a team that batted Franco 4th 17 times, 5th 18 times and 3rd twice.
  15. I wouldn't be against Bryant, but I'm concerned over his defensive play at 3B. He's fallen off the last few years and there's a reason why he's being moved around defensively. I don't think at 30 next year he's going to suddenly get better defensively, especially considering his size. They are probably better off going the trade route or going for a place holder and hope one of their guys can be the guy.
  16. The question is, what do you expect your team to do in 2022? If this is a transition year where you expect to bring up guys like Rutschman, Stowers, and Rodriguez and start giving them major league time, you have to look at your holes. Let's look at who should be an everyday starter in 2022: 1B: Mountcastle 2B: Urias/Mateo SS: Matteo or FA 3B: ??? LF: Hays CF: Mullins RF Santander ? Rutschman DH: Mancini Who else is in the mix: Neustrom (LF), McKenna (4th outfielder), Jones (UTL/2B) maybe Westburg (SS) by midseason. In my mind, 3B is a place where we a hole and no immediate replacement. So the question is, do you sure up 3B by going after Kris Bryant (although I'm not convinced he can play there effectively all season anymore) or do you try a stop gap and hope you can transition either Henderson (most likely) or Westburg there or that Mayo is a really special and comes fast (by 2023). Of course it's still out on whether any of them can play 3B effectively at the major league level. I don't see Bannon or Dorrian being an option though I would have liked to have seen Dorrian in AAA for part of last season. I think the Orioles have to look at 3B being filled by either Westburg, Henderson or Mayo from 2023 on so I'm thinking they go stop gap or they trade from their outfield depth and go after a Nolan Jones from the Indians. Indians need outfielders and already have a great 3B.
  17. He was considered. I could have gone that way, but went with the higher OPS overall and much better OBP of Haskins. The K-BB with the low average is a concern of mine with Watson overall.
  18. Didn't have a better year than Westburg statistically and I only went one deep.
  19. Just for fun, I'd thought I'd put together an all-star lineup for 2021. They don't necessarily have to be the best prospect, but who had the best year. 20. https://www.mlb.com/news/most-improved-mlb-players-from-2020-to-2021 Sweet-spot rate: Cedric Mullins, Orioles Change: +13.5 points Every season introduces us to new stars who emerge seemingly out of nowhere, and nobody fits that role better this year than Mullins, who wound up as the AL’s starting center fielder in the All-Star Game. Closing in on a 30-30 season, Mullins ranks in the top 10 among position players in FanGraphs WAR -- this from a guy who carried a .342 career slugging percentage into Opening Day. One key to Mullins’ success has been replacing a lot of ground balls with line drives and fly balls. His sweet-spot rate -- how often a batted ball is in the ideal launch angle range (8-32 degrees) -- has jumped all the way from 23.4% to 36.9%, helping make him a power threat for the first time.
  21. Honestly, I'm not sure why anyone reads anything other than strict player related news anymore. Like you said, there is more detailed analysis from the people on this board. Honestly, we have 20 or more people on here who know more about our prospects than any baseball America/Baseball Prospectus writer or really any write that writes for a national source. The only thing I want from the local media is organizational injury news/promotions/demotions/roles changes and the personal stories of minor leaguers that Melewski brings to the table. Remember, most of the local media still thinks you follow them for play by play in twitter and half can't even apparently afford to buy a real microphone so their questions on zoom don't sound like they are calling from the moon. Who cares about their analysis of how the Orioles are rebuilding? Gone are the days of the leaks from everywhere under Elias. give him credit, he has built a team that will only give out the information that he wants to give out. It sucks from my point of view because I used to be able to get injury information about minor league players with a text, but organizationally, they do all seem to be rowing in the same direction which is definitely a change from the past.
