  1. Lowther's pitches against KC: Fastball: https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/lowther-fastball-against-kc He stayed off the barrel but not get a lot of swing and miss. Commanded it well overall. Curveball: https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/lowther-curveball-against-kc His best pitch overall. No hard contact and the most swing and miss. Looks like he took the slurvvy portion out of the pitch and it plays better. Changeup: https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels/lowther-changeup-JceRnf His location was pretty good with the pitch, particularly since it has below average movement.
  2. He doesn't touch 100, he can sit 100 on certain days. His fastball is the best on the system velocity wise. there is a little doubt he's going to be protected from the rule 5 because he would absolutely be taken.

    FCL happenings

Let's hope this is the beginning of a hot streak because he was a pretty big disappointment this year.

    FCL happenings

Maybe just to get his some everyday PAs or as a reward since playing in the FCL during the day in Florida is not exactly super fun. Also, they may want him to play in some cooler weather since he's probably never really played in cool weather before. most likely. I do think they should move Cowser to Aberdeen. Pretty crowded OF in Delmarva.
  5. Lowther's curveball was a real weapon today and had good bite, much better than earlier in the year. He looks like he's getting away from that slurvvy offering with less horizontal movement and more vertical movement which should play better. His change was ok though it doesn't have a ton of movement, but he did do a pretty good job of keeping it low. He'll need to be careful with his fastball though it plays up a bit more than his 90 MPH velocity since his release point is so close to home. Still, he didn't get much swing and miss with it which means he'll need to have command of that pitch to have success.
  6. It's a strange call since Lowther has not pitched particularly well since coming back from injury, is on four days rest vs Baumann who is on 5 days rest and has pitched really well of late. Both are on the 40-man and Baumann actually has more AAA experience at this point so it does not appear the Orioles are making decisions based on the best candidate. Unless something is bothering Baumann, this one doesn't make much sense unless the Orioles are concerned over the Dbacks catching them. As for Lowther, this has been a lost year of sorts but don't give up on him. If he can develop a better changeup this offseason he can still end up a nice rotation piece.

    Adam Hall 2021

He's not an org player for now, but he's a late Top-50 guy due to his contact issues, lack of power and defensive issues. He's worth continuing to follow but he looks a lot more like a Richie Martin type guy vs an everyday big leaguer.
  8. He is and he will not be protected nor taken.
  9. He had a nice game today, but he's struck out 23 times in 51 High-A PAs so far. He's still young enough to keep running out there and see if something clicks, but he's not going to be a priority play soon and if not for the injuries to Servideo and Ortiz, he probably wouldn't be starting now.
  10. I agree. I think he's a guy they are limiting innings on this year but will try as a starter next year. He has the repertoire and they drafted him because they believed he had the ability to be a starter. What we don't know is if his stuff holds up to 90-100 pitches? With his size and stuff, they would be foolish to not give him a try as a starter because I think it's pretty clear he can move to the pen and be pretty special.
  11. You need more than upside to get ranked that high and I also meant as a hitter. Mayo still has high volatility because of the level he's at but I just like what's he's done so far and that swing!
  12. It does have some resemblance. In Stanton first full minor league season at 18 years old he did the following in Low-A: .293/.381/.611/.993, 39 HR, 58 BB, 153 Ks in 540 PAs If you expand out Mayo's first season stats at 19 years old in Low-A to 540 PAs .295/.411/.574/.985 30 HR, 74 BB, 133 K in 540 PAs
  13. This may be the most accurate assessment of what he did with those trades.
  14. Yeah, there is going to be some interesting considerations that will go into the final prospect list this year. Kjerstad and Baumler have to go on there somewhere as well so there will be some decent prospects that will be just off the top 30 this year.
  15. I don't think any team had a ton on him other than what his Perfect Game type metrics were after his Junior year and those few Senior year games he had before everything shut down. He was rising fast and I think the Orioles were able to find a price tag that made sense for both of them while other teams either didn't want to meet this price tag or thought he was better off going to college. I think people know me and I try make guys impress me regardless of their bonus or draft status. I typically give those things as part of the early equation until I can get some eyes ons and some professional stats (above FCL level), but Mayo just stands out to me.
  16. Right now he shows me better plate discipline and less miss in the swing. He also hits the ball consistently harder than Henderson. Now Henderson is a little more athletic but Mayo is not slough although he does have a little bit of slow feet that could make him move from 3B at some point to either RF or 1B. It's too early for that right now though. I have Mayo over Henderson by a small margin right now.
  17. I don't want to add to the hype, but he's the one guy not named Rutschman that just excites me when he gets in the batters box. I've always said, special players do special things early. While he's got some miss still, he really hits the ball hard and that swing is explosive but under control. Right now, I think he has the second most upside in the system. The lack of a complete high school season in 2020 may have given the Orioles a real gift.
  18. I really enjoyed watching Pinto throw tonight. He was really n control the entire outing using his fastball, curveball and split change all for strikes. Can get swings and misses on all three pitches but the split change is a real weapon against lefties. One of the things I love is he seems to shake off his catcher a fair amount, but the reason I love that is almost everytime he got a strike with the pitch HE wanted to throw. this tells me he's a smart pitcher out there who is reading swings and his own stuff. That's really rare to see a minor league pitcher in Low-A ball show that kinds of pitching awareness. His fastball really has some nice late life and he uses it well up in the zone and the curveball is a late hard breaker that is almost slider like in it's movement. It's doesn't have huge movement but it's late and it looks like a high spin rate offering. Probably one of the most impressive pitching performances I've watched this year.

    The Latin Program

Players' ages for the season are typically determined by their age as of June 30th. Yes, he's 17 but he's playing his 16 year old season which makes his performance that much more impressive. Him and Bucce are the same age and the youngest players playing for either O's DSL teams.

    The Latin Program

Basallo has been very impressive particularly in the power department. When a 16 year old has twice the amount of homers than anyone else on either Orioles DSL teams, that's a nice sign. In the last ten days he's slashed .318/.773/.348/1.121 with 3 homers, a double and a walk with just three Ks in his last 22 PAs.
  21. Because he realized converting himself to catcher will allow him to prolong his career a bit more. As for Yahn, he's a good little org guy. He'll do whatever and that's why he's been around for five years.
  22. Man, that was a great show back in the day!
  23. Not this team. I would call them heartless but they're really talentless. Once they are down late they are done.
  24. There could. I like Hays overall as a player, but he can't stay healthy and then he spent must of this season being dominated by right-handers. He could still put it together and if I'm the Orioles I'd still give him next year to see if he does, but I don't think he's going to end up the player we thought he would be.
