  1. Let me fix my post. I hope there is no room for Davis! There!
  2. That is literally the expectations of a guest instructor!
  3. Let's hope either that issue is magically cleared up this spring or Hyde just sits him on the bench until he quits. Basically just play with the 25 man roster they've always had. When Mountcastle comes up, there is certainly going to be no room for Davis on the roster any longer.
  4. They aren't going to release Hess without seeing what he looks like in a reliever role. I could certainly see Blach getting released.
  5. Yep, this is on point. Great comment about Gallardo as well. Baseball execs are definitely getting smarter about how they spend their money which is why Milone and LeBlanc can now be had on minor league contracts instead of guaranteed money. If they prove to be decent, I expect both to make the team.
  6. I've always thought Nunez is undervalued by some on here. He may not be a super star, but he's a solid DH and if he can not kill the team at 3B, I'd play him over Ruiz at 3B.
  7. Tommy Milone, who turns 33 on Feb 16th, is a soft tossing lefty who give the Orioles a veteran innings eater. He can pitch long relief or be a 5-inning type starter. He's mostly a fastball, changeup guy though he does throw a slider and curve occasionally. Stuff Fastball (45) - (Below average) 87.1 MPH avg, 8% more vertical movement & 27% more horizontal movement than MLB average but expected batter numbers suggest he was a bit unlucky last year (.276 BA vs .298 xBA and .702 SLG vs .604 xSLG). When the fastball is good it's typically in the upper part of the Zone, but when he misses in the middle in doesn't end up well. Change - (55) (Above average) 79.4 MPH avg, 3% more vertical movement & 14% more horizontal movement than MLB average, was a little lucky last year (.204 BA vs .237 xBA and .325 SLG vs .379 xSLG). Gets more swing and misses of a change than any other pitch and is a weapon against right handed hitters down and away. Slider - (45) (below average) 79.1 MPG avg, -6% less vertical movement & -50 % less horizontal movement than MLB average. Uses left on left as a putaway pitch and can occasionally get off a good one, but it's not consistent. He was a bit unlucky last year (.289 BA vs .263 xBA and .579 SLG vs .539 xSLG) Curve - 45 (below average) 75.3 MPH, -12% less vertical movement & -57 % less horizontal movement than MLB average. When he locates it low he's had some success, but can't get away with mistake very often do to lack of sharp bit and movement. He was very lucky last year with the curveball (.222 BA vs .281 xBA and .556 SLG vs .562 xSLG) Milone is worth taking a look at due to lack of options and depth in true starting candidates, plus he gives them a potential lefty long reliever which could be useful. His lack of stuff means he has to be pinpoint because he mistakes get hit hard.
  8. Yikes, if anything, adding the DH to the NL is the smarter way to go. The National League is the only major baseball league, including college and high school that does not allow a DH. Watching teams use "strategy" to pitch around the 8th batter with an open base and runner in scoring position to face a .123 hitter is not strategy, it's boring.
  9. I would honestly be surprised if we don't see this kind of gamesmanship. One of the reasons I hate this rule.
  10. Appreciate the thoughts but are you usually able to keep it updated daily. It forces me to follow everyone on top of it so it's a good mechanism to help keep the staff informed. Saying that, posters are always able to post updates within the thread and in fact, that becomes very helpful.
  11. No worries buddy. We all have our times on here we'd like to take back.
  12. Why so combative of late? You are good poster when you stick to baseball. Maybe don't take everything so personal. Personally, I think you took the original post wrong and read it like Frobby read it. Either way, please remember that attacking others is not allowed here at the Hangout.
  13. I think Hess would need to blow the competition away to get a spot in the rotation. I think there is a better chance of them converting him to relief this year ans seeing if that helps his stuff take a jump and become more consistent.
  14. Made a couple little adjustments to format and a comments, but outstanding job. Feel free to help update this throughout spring if you like!
  15. Outstanding Steve. If we do Hangout nights this year, your first game with a friend is on us!
  16. Lol, what an awful win. Just a totally Turgeon squad zombie effort. How does a team with aspirations of winning the Big-10 play come out play that dis-interested? Really unfathomable to know what is at stake and then come out and play like the way they did. This is exactly why you can never, ever trust a Turgeon squad. They always have the possibility of playing just a turd of game while looking disinterested. It's so fitting that this gave Turgeon his 200th win and 20th of the season. This is exactly how his teams play at times. He can't motivate or coach late in games. BTW, it appeared that Stix was worn out in this game despite his good numbers, and I'm very concerned he is starting to wear out with all of the minutes he has to play because of no big court depth. Really a weird team. They have a chance to win the Big-10, but I don't feel good about them in the tourney at all. Sometimes this team looks like it could beat anyone then others like tonight they just look disinterested. Just a lack of focus and motivation that made this game way too close. Don't give me this "every game is tough in the Big-10 crap". This was an awful effort which is my bigger problem.
  17. I always love hearing the announcers dumbfounded by awful late game coaching by Turgeon.
  18. I will give Nebreska some credit for showing up here ready to play. Their coach obviously knows how to motivate a team unlike the zombie Terp squad. The Terps have played like trash all game. Turning the ball over like its a skill.
  19. Wow, just wow. Just absolutely unbelievable how long Turgoen allows his team look like a bunch of uninterested zombies before calling a time out. This is an absolutely embarrassing performance by this squad for absolutely no reason whatsoever. They're home, they're playing an awful team, but Turgeon can't find one player who looks like he cares.
  20. This is one of those games when you question the coaches ability to get his team to focus against a sub par team. The Terps slept walked through the first half but still were up 13 points only to come out in the second half and look totally and utterly disinterested in playing. Turgeon took a timeout after a particularly brutal stretch that has allowed this awful Nebreska team to cut the lead to 7. Let's see if he's able to get through during this TO because this is exactly why you look at the upper decks and see no one in the seats. This should be a laugher yet here they are with 15 to go only up by 7.
  21. That was about as bad as you can play and be up 13 points at the half. Nebreska is just plain awful. Hopefully this will be a good game to get some of the guys who don't play much time on the court in the second half if they can get it up to 20 point lead.
  22. MD not shooting well at all so far. Marial continues to look overmatched and does not look like a DIV-I basketball player besides pure height. Nebreska is awful but Terps keeping them close with disorganized, bored play. Typical first half for this Terps squad through first 12 minutes.
  23. Let's just move on since this is off topic and neither player is on the team anymore. Let's talk about Hunter Harvey's even more epic Mullet he showed up in camp with! Mullet power!
  24. I probably should have said they did not live up to their lofty expectations. Bundy was once considered one the best all-time high school pitching prospects by some scouts and has become a 4th starter. That's underachieving. Regardless of their rWAR rankings of all-time, organizations don't hope for Gausman or Bundy's performance when they draft #4 overall. So yes, in my mind they under performed for their draft position.
