  1. Norby made a very strong and accurate throw to 3rd last night on a ball hit to him, which he initially misplayed, throwing out the runner. Seemed more than suitable to me, at least on that one play.
  2. Interesting, thanks. Will be curious to see how often he’s in the lineup when we face a stretch of RHPs. I’m hoping for 3-4 starts a week, but that may be too optimistic.
  3. Just my opinion, but I think he’s the next odd man out a la Ortiz. He’s traded at the deadline or this coming offseason since he’s got to be added to the 40 man. I love him as a player offensively. There is just no space for him and he’s caught up in the numbers game.
  4. He should be in the lineup for sure against RHP. Hays and or Mounty get a day off, he has to be in there. Otherwise, what’s the point of him being on the roster? You have to ask yourself, what does him not getting regular playing time do for his confidence and development? Very poor decision, IMO. If he’s playing once a week, rather it be Stowers that up so that Cowser could at least be in the lineup daily and get ABs at Norfolk.
  5. I guess we saw why the Rays sent Caminero down too. He was pretty bad at 3B. So we’re not the only ones.
  6. This team could take a series from about 4-5 MLB clubs.
  7. I’m not normally a huge fan of bat flips, etc but I like the attitude Jackson is showing. Almost like, yeah Elias and co, I know you’re watching. So here, put this in your pipe and smoke it.
  8. Vavra is still rehabbing a shoulder injury. Not sure about Haskin. I didn’t see either one of them at any point in the 12 days I spent in Sarasota.
  9. Ortiz has made the Brewers OD roster. I will also be watching and pulling for Hernaiz out in OAK - whenever they don’t play us of course
  10. It was sunny and 82 by the end of the final spring game in Ft Myers yesterday. I had to apply sunscreen a few times. LOL.
  11. Same for me. I’m out of market as well. I hope they continue including affiliated minor league games as well like last year. That was a nice surprise as it wasn’t included in years past. At least not with my subscription through T-Mobile. I was able to watch probably 30-40ish games as Holliday climbed up through the ranks. Really curious to see how some of these international guys do at Delmarva.
  12. There were several Sox fans who cheered on McKenna yesterday. I sat on the home team side with several friends. Teams do like to bring these types of local players back even if they aren’t in long term plans. It gives the minor league affiliates someone with local name recognition. At least McKenna has spent several seasons on a ML roster and is more of an established player, whereas Errol has yet to get a sniff despite being several years older. Of course Elias didn’t just make a trip to Ft Myers to hang out with Breslow lol.
  13. Gunnar is the best defensive shortstop on the team. This is the way it should be.
  14. McKenna is from NH and was a huge Sox fan growing up. I believe many Sox faithful hoped he’d be drafted by them out of HS. I’m sure the fan base would love to have him. As for Elias, was at the game and saw him walk out of the stadium after it was over. My buddy and I were like why is he here (just saw him Sunday at Ed Smith too btw)? Forgot about the Yale connection. That explains it.
  15. Tavera apparently hit for the cycle today against the Pirates A squad
  16. Glad to see he put yesterday’s troubles behind him quickly. I should have mentioned in my post yesterday, after the helmet incident, he sat at the end of the bench postgame by himself (everyone else had cleared the dugout) for about 10-15 minutes. A coach came over to talk to him for a bit, then they walked off…the last people to leave the fields. I wanted to get back out to Twin Lakes today but ended getting tied up with work. So unfortunately, yesterday will be my last time going there this spring. I really enjoy watching the action that close. It’s so raw and unfiltered. Just pure baseball. I am going to the Phillies game at Ed Smith tomorrow, the away game at the Red Sox Thurs, hopefully (weather dependent) at the Rays Sat and the last game at the Twins to wrap up the spring and my trip.
  17. Good to hear on the relay throw. He attempted one a week or so ago against the Yanks while playing shortstop that was pretty awful. Low, up the 3rd base line and pretty weak.
  18. Re: De Leon - RZNJ said he saw video of him throwing bullpens in early March. I saw him at Twin Lakes last Thurs 3/14 but he was not pitching, just hanging out with the guys being a spectator. At least I think that was him. He was wearing #91 and it just said De Leon on the nameplate. I know it was for sure not Isaac. Bright looked incredible in person at the spring breakout game. I know the TV footage sucked so it was probably hard to tell how good he was. His whiff rate was through the roof. So many bad looking swings and misses from the Pirates batters.
  19. @Tony-OH Arias, Sosa, Tavera, Acevedo and Etzel all were in the “A” lineup when they played the A/A+ Pirates Thurs 3/14. Bradfield was in A+. Today 3/18 Beavers, Fabian and Basallo were in the AA lineup vs the Braves, to no one’s surprise. Nothing out of ordinary I noted lineup wise. Basallo took his last AB, which resulted in a weak ground out, very hard. Saw him slam his helmet into the bench area and then into his own head several times… Uninspiring lineups for both teams AAA game played on the field next to the AA game, which had all the attention. I will say for what it’s worth, I’ve seen Keegan Gillies throw in two games now and he’s looked impressive. I asked Almeyda today if he knew where he was starting and he said they haven’t said but he thinks in Sarasota. He’s not played in any twin lakes games yet. Just intra squad stuff, drills etc.
  20. That 2nd HR from Rhodes was a tank. By far the loudest contact by any player all day. Even though it was off former position player turned pitcher, Culberson, it darn near left the stadium entirely out to LF. The bullpen hinges on Kimbrel. If Baumann keeps up his improved stuff and Tate is back to ‘22 form that will help. I think McDermott will be a weapon for us once he’s called upon. Im not sure what to make of this positional usage thus far in ST. They said Mateo would get time in CF. Hasn’t really materialized. Mayo was supposed to get looks in RF. Nope. All 3B except for some 1B (including today, playing nearly the whole game along with Holliday, which I found interesting). Either way, lots to sort out with a week to go.

    Teddy Sharkey

I saw Sharkey pitch in a Twin Lakes game last week against the Pirates - pretty sure it was A level. His stuff was as advertised. Breaking pitches with plenty of depth and movement. Command seemed a bit off as he walked one. I will say, even though he’s not a huge guy, he has a presence on the mound. Like it or not, “Kimbrelesque”. You envision a potential closer when you watch him pitch. There were some scouts with radar guns on him, but they were busy working and talking, so I didn’t want to interrupt and ask what they had his offerings at.
  22. FWIW, Mayo’s double today was similar to yesterday’s. I saw both of them in person. Not a hard hit ball at all. By this point in the game (bottom 8th) the Braves had already pulled all starters from what was an already lackluster starting lineup (they featured a split squad also). A quality ML caliber LFer probably makes the catch - same with yesterday’s ball that was hit to shallow right center. Credit to Mayo for hustling and turning them both into doubles.
  23. We should either re-do this poll once OD rosters are announced, or should have saved until then. Too many unknowns for it to be anything other than a fun poll at this point. Given what we know today, I’ll go with 25-49%. IMO, it’s a toss up between Carter, Langford and Holliday (assuming the latter two make it). The dark horse and major unknown here is Mayo. Who might end up taking the cake if he sticks around. He may be the better player out of all 4 of them this year.
  24. That was Isaac at 1B, and thankfully not Luis, who’s one of our top pitching prospects.
  25. Cool. So you’re one of those that for whatever reason, gets unnecessarily worried about ST numbers? I only picked this example because it’s one I always have remembered. There are countless examples, including several good ones from recent years. I’m sure you know that. Maybe you don’t. Anyway, Burnes is fine. Noting to worry about.
