  1. I’ve seen OKC play in person a few times this year. I’m there on business about once a month. Cool town btw, very underrated IMO. Their stadium is great, but they don’t seem to draw well despite having a good record unless a big name Dodger is there on rehab. Saw Marisnick play on a recent rehab assignment actually. Their roster has had a lot of turnover all season with a mix of vet retread types, as well as players (pitchers mostly) who’ve shuttled back and forth between LA and OKC. Jorbit Vivas is a young player they have high regard for, though his numbers haven’t shown much yet. The Norfolk roster has been 100x more static than OKC’s. I was supposed to be out in Vegas this weekend, but had to reschedule. Pretty bummed about that now. Will be a cool experience for the young core there who’ll be helping out the big club very soon. Go Tides!!

    Coby Mayo 2023

Until/if he moves off 3B, I’m sticking with Austin Riley as the comp, but with a much better arm. There was a strong sentiment that Riley would have to move off third too through his rookie year and into his 2nd season. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/austin-riley-663586?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb

    Coby Mayo 2023

You wouldn’t have to convince me much. The argument is definitely there. However, the way BA works, they will always give such awards to guys who they ranked higher for longer (in this case Jackson or Caminero), rather than someone with helium that rose up very quickly (almost unanticipated) like Mayo did. This way it validates their ranking system and their staff opinions.
  4. FWIW and somewhat SSS, but Prieto really tailed off after he was traded. Prieto may have the better hit tool, but you could easily argue after his performance this season, Hernaiz has the better overall tools and higher ceiling, especially when considering age.
  5. Someone needs to put him in touch with Gunnar’s helmet guy.
  6. I’m not disagreeing but what was the catch probability on the RF pop fly hit? I’m guessing it was fairly low, like 5% or less. Also didn’t help that Hicks was positioned well into the gap defensively and had all but zero chance to get to that ball. It was a lucky hit and about as poorly placed ball you could have, unless you’re a CLE fan.
  7. The promotion was not related. Ortiz was supposed to be in the lineup the day Holliday debuted (Norby was going to play LF), but was a late scratch with the oblique and hasn’t been seen since.
  8. Nice. I booked way back when Corbin was +400 and put a play in on Volpe as AL ROY in a reverse psychology ploy. Glad my Jedi mind tricks worked lol.
  9. This season? Doubtful. He missed a large portion of ‘23 to injury. He wasn’t particularly crisp at AA. They’re probably just getting him exposure to AAA to help him prep for next season.
  10. While I can understand the notion behind this line of thinking, it’s a bit misguided when given the context, understanding and meaning of the term in today’s Japan. Could there be better or other ways to describe his performance this far? Probably. Is the term offensive, racist or “cancellable” or anything of that sort to the Japanese? Far from it. I’ve spent quite a bit of time around Asian and Japanese folks. From what I know and have been told, this is a non starter. Just wanted to share that perspective because it’s important to be able to see and understand things from a world view and not just the bubble we live in here in the States. Somewhat ironically, given the what ifs above if he were Irish, etc. That is actually where the Japanese take issue with the term being used is if it’s tied to the context of some terroristic act that is carried out against innocent civilians. If the 9/11 or OKC guilty parties had been called “kamikazes”, that is where definitive offense would be taken because of improper use. I’ll leave it at that. I realize this is not the proper forum for a full on discussion of such things, but wanted to show the other side of the coin.
  11. I’m trying to figure out how to ask this without being disrespectful or getting put into timeout, but how is what he said offensive? The term “kamikaze” is not considered derogatory nor a slur in modern Japan.
  12. 3-4, all singles, plus a BB in today’s game. Across 13 AAA games and 53 AB, his BB/K ratio is 11/8.
  13. I’m hoping we get to face the Rangers strictly for selfish reasons so I can go see a playoff game at the smoker in Arlington lol. I want zero part of anything to do with facing Seattle. That team is going to be very dangerous with the pitching they have.
  14. Glad I’m not the only one laughing at this weekly comedy skit. He even has the Jays with a higher “Team Quality” score (whatever exactly that means) than the Braves. I’m guessing these rankings disappear or are vastly revised in 2024.
  15. Are we due a competitive balance “A” pick next year? Is that where this 3rd pick referenced here is coming from?
  16. Gunnar is undoubtedly next year’s SS. I think he goes to the AFL, which will serve a a showcase of sorts to increase his trade value for any offseason move Elias is able to make.
  17. I read somewhere (Twitter/X I think) that he’s got an oblique injury. I think the word they used was “tight”.
  18. Cook named EL player of the week
  19. This article explains it. Once he got to LA, he changed up his pitch mix. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/09/the-dodgers-grabbed-an-elite-closer-off-waivers.html
  20. I’m not a doctor, nor a radiologist, but have worked with radiology imaging systems (PACS) for 25 years. Interpreting what Elias said, the MRI shows an acute injury (in this case a new, localized UCL tear/strain/deformity) on top of the chronic injury. Without seeing the imaging or the radiologist report, hard to speculate of course, but I’d presume the chronic part of the injury might be what you could term wear and tear. Elias pretty much said as much with his comments about Felix throwing as hard as he does and for a really long time now. So in a nutshell, sounds like a new injury (obviously) over top of some sort of pre existing UCL injury or condition. A lot of times using various imaging techniques and views/protocols, you are able to see the anatomical differences to be able to characterize and distinguish old injuries from new.
  21. I’m sorry but I have to say it… Beavers pelts his first dam AA home run this eve.
  22. Nope, not yet. His 1st will be auto only like Mayo in ‘21 Bowman Chrome. So fairly limited availability. Almeyda will also have his 1st in it too, both auto and base. A few other Orioles in the checklist too, but they’re the biggest ones. Salas is in it also. He’s the biggest chase. https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2023-bowman-chrome-baseball-cards
  23. Man, this kid is unreal. Do any of you collect baseball cards? Not trying to gloat here, but I loaded up on a bunch of Basallo autographed cards right when the season began (including a 1 of 1) on the cheap before he got going. Very glad I did. Also was able to meet him at Twin Lakes at ST this year and was lucky enough to have him sign a ball. For those don’t collect or keep up with the latest in the hobby, his Bowman first autos come out in 23 Bowman Chrome that releases next week. Those will easily be his most desirable cards, easily eclipsing any previously released products he’s in (Panini Prizm and Onyx). I’m sure the Bowman 1sts will not be cheap.
  24. Just looked at the box score for the DEL game this eve. They are playing the Fred Nats and ‘22 draft consideration Elijah Green who is currently sporting a .208 BA, .629 OPS and 133 Ks in 269 ABs. Yikes. Dodged a bullet there. I think we may have drafted the right guy. Almost the exact same age as Holliday to the day.
  25. He was supposed to be playing LF at Norfolk once Holliday was promoted (Holliday and Ortiz would split time between SS and 2B), but Ortiz has been out with an oblique issue so Norby has stayed on the dirt.
