  1. Yeah, we've already gone over that. Thanks.
  2. You don't know that. And making an offer may result in getting useful information - such as what they're looking for. Only a fool would treat business discussions as as insult.
  3. Because they might not get a better offer.
  4. And to add onto that - If the A's think he's going to bounce back, they probably won't try to trade him.
  5. Like I said, I'd make a low-ball offer - for the reasons I gave (though I didn't include Diaz). I think it'd be exceptionally foolish for the O's to offer Cowser or Hall or Henderson for him. A .723 OPS 3rd baseman at 28 who's going to get paid - probably over 10 mil next season and then more and then more - if we can keep him - isn't worth a lot to the O's right now. He's a good player, but the decline shouldn't be ignored.
  6. You're absolutely right. I had forgotten Bumbry played LF in his early Baltimore year. Wow, that was a lot of speed. If Baylor hadn't had that shoulder injury that ruined has arm, who knows how good of an OFer he could have become.
  7. Still, in a 4 year period, his OPS has declined from .864 to .723, and that's a very significant decline. Oakland has been the beneficiary of his bargain years, and now he's on to his "getting paid" years - which Oakland is well aware of.
  8. I'd make a lowball offer - Chapman's not an ideal acquisition target, but he's a good player - at 28 with 2 years left of arbs before free agency. I could see him being available for the reasons SG gave. Really good glove, and the offensive stats are hurt by playing at Oakland. It's obviously not ideal with him being a free agent after the 2023 season, and he'll get paid well in arb. I wouldn't give up a top prospect for him, but I'd be willing to give up a couple of solid prospects - probably less than the combo of Vavra and McKenna. I'd prefer to give up something like Grenier and Watson.
  9. Coggins came up with Bumbry. I don't think he ever played with Blair. Did Brady Anderson, Finley, and Devo play together for a year - before the infamous Glenn Davis trade?
  10. Seems like there's always a market for relievers around the trade deadline. Pittsburg got a nice return for ex-O Richard Rodriquez.
  11. And what makes it even worse is that he probably could have gotten something decent for both Scott and Fry if he trade them before the trade deadline. Now... probably not.
  12. I wish I had a boss as easy as you are. Building a bullpen within 3 years should be about the easiest thing for a GM to do.
  13. Does BABIP adjust for speed?
  14. Why? Look at his stuff, and look at his stats. This is what he is. There is no upside.
  15. Just unbelievable - his lack of baseball smarts or instincts - he's got a 2-1 count with the bases loaded and gets a fastball right over the plate... and looks at it. I mean.... that's not a good sign.
  16. Even as slow as Mancini is, he should have run to 3rd on the throw to 1st.
  17. Yup, he realizes that part of his job is to get reactions. And he's good at that.
  18. I hope so, lol. Go Braves!
  19. What Lee left out is... He is part of the national media that puts out the view that the O's do nothing but suck, so what he's really saying is that the O's future is better than he's said it will be.
  20. Yup, and he's OPS'd a bit over .900 at both stops - pretty impressive. At some point next year, his play could force the O's to promote him to Baltimore. I feel bad for Watson - who's looking good at Bowie but a year older than Stowers and behind too many people to have much of a chance to get to the majors anytime soon. Watson's a good all-around CFer - but probably not good enough that he's gonna force them to move him up. And with Cowser and perhaps others probably coming up from behind him at some point, it's a tough situation.
