If you are old enough to remember Don Stanhouse....

Ah, I wish I could delete that interview - didn't realize it was the same one in the OP - just with a different link. -

I'm above ground - at least for a little while longer. It's funny - Stanhouse was only on the O's for 2 years plus another year a few years later when he was already past done. Here's him being interviewed. -

True, though there's no truth to the rumor he gave up an RBI to Caleb in 2016. -

And then don't pitch to the guy he can get out - until he's got 3 balls. -
i like Rom as an underrated prospect, but of the 3 players mentioned in the OP, I think Westburg is the most likely to contribute as a MLBer in 2022. Henderson may have more upside than Westburg, but Gunnar's SO's seems to be a problem that's going to need adjustments that are likely going to take longer. And from what I've read, Westburg was going to stay at SS unless he outgrew it - and it doesn't sound like he's gotten too big for it.

O's players that have nothing more to prove at AAA.

He does look more like Curt Flood. -
Druw Jones, 2022 draft HS prospect

Not to mention, the O's might trade Mullins. -
I'm MUCH more intrigued by Ortiz than Daschback. It's nice that Dasch is a quality defensive 1st baseman, but he doesn't hit well enough, strikes out a ton, and at 24 - can't expect a whole lot more growth. Ortiz... I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up the year as the Baltimore SS.

I'd bet you're right on that. And thanks for the heads up on the 60 Minutes piece. I'll have to give that a watch.

Interesting that they toss a football to warm up. It brought back a memory I had when I was a student at the University of Maryland in the early 1980's. I'd sometimes walk into the stands at Cole Field House - which was almost always open to anyone during the daytime back then - to study between classes and hope to see the basketball team practice. There was a blond-haired freshman quarterback named Norman Essiason just having a blast tossing a football to his buddy, kicker Jess Atkinson - walking through the stands and laughing - jumping over seats to catch the other's throws. Boomer was a freshman at the time - a kid from a small town in NY who wasn't really well known at that time but had obvious charisma and talent for miles yet didn't seem to have a big head. Amazing to see all his accomplishments on and off the field since the days when he was just a fun-loving freshman. I hope Jess is doing well - remember him being a local sportscaster for a little while.

Pre signing 2022 International Signing Class discussion

Which brings up a question - would a delay in the MLB season present an opportunity for minor league baseball to increase their audience and revenue? Could minor league owners get together to form an organization that gets tv contracts and advertises, etc? Or are they controlled by the majors? Apologies if these questions have already been addressed. -

Yeah, I'm confused as to why his cost is so low and why nobody's apparently out-bidding the O's - considering that his stats are so impressive and that he broke a rookie hitting record of Kendrys Morales, had a 40 game hit streak, and has an absurdly low SO rate. Is it mainly because of his size? -

The proof will be in the pudding when one of the Latin America prospects reaches our top 10 list. But the article was a good read. -

Indeed I did. Be thankful I didn't link the Neal Diamond song of a similar name. -

Well, if that's the case, he OPS'd 1.042 at the equivalent of Aberdeen, so he utterly destroyed the equivalent of Aberdeen level opponents. I hope they give him a bunch of playing time is Spring Training so that they can see what they have and use him accordingly. -

Here's an article on him from a year ago: https://calltothepen.com/2020/04/23/international-prospects-cesar-prieto-next-great-cuban-2b/ He was the leadoff hitter for the Cuba National Team and hit .438 in the Pan-Am Games. -

Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but this sounds like an enormously positive move by the O's - if they are successful in signing him. . -
Wow, that looks like a lot of excellent work. Anderson De Los Santos sounds like the most intriguing of the prospects.

Which of the remaining Free Agents are the best fit for the O's?
Ruzious replied to wildcard's topic in Orioles Talk
I'm surprised, since that's not the case in the NBA. But it can still be useful as far as budgeting and doing something to overcome the difficulty we'll have in attracting a good free agent. I'm willing to listen to better alternatives - rather than continuing to set futility records - which is likely going to happen. -

Ruzious replied to wildcard's topic in Orioles Talk
The O's are obviously not a team that the better free agent pitchers are going to consider - all things being equal, so they need to be creative and take a chance or 2 - if they're going to be successful. And the salary minimum that's likely to be included in the next CBA will likely require them to spend some money. I'd like to see them take a chance on something that could be better than mediocre. I'd rather not spend the money on guys like Zach Davies, Brett Anderson, and Drew Smyly. Try things like front-loading a contract - so they get closer to the salary minimum in the first 2 years while not paying as much later in the contract. -

Fine, if it wasn't clear that that's what I meant, then I apologize. -

I said: "White Sox decided not to make him an 18.4 mil qualifying offer - an indication they don't think there's a big market for him."
