  1. Gotta like that article for showing the cons as well as pros for it's idea - Yanks going after DeJong - but ultimately the fact that his OPS+ has gone down every year since his rookie year - sown to 86 - makes his seem like an unlikely target for the Yankees.
  2. I started out by saying I realize it has no chance; it's what I would try to do. Any trade idea we'd come up with has an extremely small chance of happening. The point is to discuss its merits if we were running the team.
  3. I know there's literally zero chance this happens, but I'd go after... Carlos Rodon. He's a major injury risk, and supposedly that's gonna keep everyone from offering him more than 2 to 3 years. So offer him 4 years. He showed last season that when he's 100% healthy, he's a legit TOR starter, but after coming back from the injured list in August, his velocity was down, and he didn't do well in the playoffs. But he just turned 29. White Sox decided not to make him an 18.4 mil qualifying offer - an indication they don't think there's a big market for him. Give him a 4 year contract that includes incentives for number of starts. Then make the trade with Miami to get Lopez and Meyer. Our starting rotation at the end of the year would be Rodon, Means, Lopez, GrayRod, and Meyer - with Hall next in line.
  4. Exactly. This is something I've mentioned several times this offseason that I think people are overlooking.
  5. Hmm, someone using the pen name Mike Elias got his question answered by Mark Polishuk on today's MLBTR Live Chat: https://www.jotcast.com/chat/mlbtr-live-chat-12149.html
  6. Say we add all 3 of them to the trade; would that be a good offer for Meyer, Lopez and Perez?
  7. Hays. I don't think he'll reach Mullins heights, but I can see him coming close. For pitchers, I'll go with Lowther.
  8. Getting back to the Marlins and what they'd give up for Mullins... Who says no? Mullins for Pablo Lopez and either Max Meyer or Edward Cabrera. What would the O's have to add to get Miami to include Eury Perez? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/evaluating-the-marlins-rotation-trade-options.html
  9. I laughed, but even the Grinch isn't as old as Greinke.
  10. I think you are correct - the 14th pick is their 2nd pick, so that would be the pick they could lose.
  11. Actually, they could lose that 11th pick if they sign a free agent that was tendered a contract by their former team and turned it down - because the 11th pick is scheduled to be their 2nd pick.
  12. The Mets were worried about his right elbow. From the New York Post: Q: What exactly is wrong with Rocker? A: The Mets expressed concern initially and primarily about Rocker’s right elbow, according to multiple sources. Ultimately, the Mets didn’t like what they saw beyond just the elbow, which is why they didn’t think even Tommy John surgery would alleviate their worries. Rocker and Boras, of course, insist that nothing is wrong with him, and they possess the rather impressive Exhibit A of the pitcher’s body of work at college. That is why the entire baseball world, no one more than the Mets, will be watching Rocker very closely.
  13. The Mets reportedly didn't make any offer to Rocker - choosing to get the 11th pick in the 2022 draft.
  14. It's not impossible that Hosmer actually plays up to his salary after 2022 - when he's getting paid $13 mil a year. It's not like he's Chris Davis. He had a 104 OPS+ last season (the same as Mancini) and 132 in the 38 games he played in 2020.
  15. Agreed - but people are acting like it's impossible to change his po$ition - which seems a bit over-doing the negativity, imo. Obviously, no trade we suggest here has much chance of happening, but they can be interesting exercises.
  16. But why would he want to stay where he's clearly not wanted?
  17. I'd like to see Roch or anyone of the Baltimore reporters follow up on this.
  18. Turg never seemed to understand there was a problem - which is probably the biggest reason he had to go. His offenses were terrible pretty much every year - virtually unwatchable. And if you're a poor half-court teacher , you can at least make up for that by being a running team - but he insisted on going with the plodding unwatchable offense - even though he had players who can run. Why would any top recruits want to play that style? And player development was pretty much non-existent. Sounds like Bruce Pearl is a possibility, but maybe Danny Manning can get them on a roll.
  19. I think Abrams would be a tremendous acquisition for the O's - so much so that I'd include Henderson to get him.
  20. My hope is that he gets healthy and stays healthy. My expectations will depend on his health.
  21. We first have to know if there will be an opening day. If so, yes... he'll be backing up Maverick Handley.
  22. I don't agree. He had 318 plate appearances last season with an OPS+ of 90 and a WAR of -.3. That was a big opportunity, and he failed - both offensively and defensively.. And at 28 now, he's not a kid that I'd expect a step up.
