  1. If we don't already, we're going to have the oldest average age in the minor leagues. Remember, if we have the best records in the minors, that means we had the best drafts.
  2. Interesting - that article starts with info on Heid. Seems we got the author's favorite Division II prospects.
  3. Seems like the O's out-smarted themselves - particularly on this pick. This was the most confusing O's pick - not just picking yet another OFer, but going likely over-slot for someone who didn't hit well.
  4. Get all the OFers in baseball, and then ransom them back to the other teams. Brilliant!!! I doff thy fedora to thee, Sir Elias.
  5. The Terp actually played some with the Harlem Globetrotters. 4 OFers already? This pick was baffling, imo.
  6. I'm surprised they went overslot on yet another OFer - rather than a pitcher. O's system seems over-loaded in the OF. But that's ok if they really believe these 2 will start for them, hit, and provide speed and athleticism.
  7. Terrific numbers, and the competition couldn't have been too bad - considering the Vanderbilt games. Good defensively according to the scouting reports.
  8. Like MadBum's. He's supposedly got his velo up to 96, and his wipeout slider might be his best pitch.
  9. Hoping we go over-slot for Anthony Solometo, the big HS lefty from NJ.
  10. Those quotes make me comfortable with the pick - though I have no doubt that him being under-slot was a factor. And it's interesting that Watson - who they probably would have picked if all things were equal re signability - went 16th.
  11. It's a normal part of the process. Batters get better too. I'm not implying this is anything easy, but it's not like this is an impossible hurdle or anything even close to it.
  12. I think we can we all agree that - no matter whether or not you can make the argument that Cowser had merit being the 5th pick - he was picked in large part because they figure he'll be an under-slot sign?
  13. The Atlantic labels him a corner OFer, but other analysts say he has a reasonable chance to stick in CF. He seems to have the arm and speed tools to excel in the OF.
  14. I could have sworn I responded to this, but I don't see it. Anyway, the gist was I'd be happy if he "just" got to the SO rate he had in his other minor league season - roughly 23% of his plate appearances - rather than the 33% rate he's at now. And he has been showing progress over the last several games.
  15. It'd be ridiculous to sit a college OF picked that high - for the rest of the season. I understand the logic with sitting pitchers - but not with OFers.
  16. Jose Torres sounds interesting and local. I don't think they pick him in the 2nd round, but I could see them picking him in the 3rd round.
  17. I'll have you know that Lew Ford is a legend... of Long Island Duck fans. He actually played 11 seasons with them - 7 as player-coach. Not sure if they paid him or he paid them.
  18. Yeah, I think that way, they can almost tell the truth when they say they got their top-rated guy - since he was in their top tier. It lets them not necessarily flat out lie when asked if their 1st round picks were their top-rated players.
  19. BPA... as long as it's a pitcher. Really, who's looking like an overslot the O's can steal?
