Those quotes make me comfortable with the pick - though I have no doubt that him being under-slot was a factor. And it's interesting that Watson - who they probably would have picked if all things were equal re signability - went 16th.

It's a normal part of the process. Batters get better too. I'm not implying this is anything easy, but it's not like this is an impossible hurdle or anything even close to it.

I think we can we all agree that - no matter whether or not you can make the argument that Cowser had merit being the 5th pick - he was picked in large part because they figure he'll be an under-slot sign?

I could have sworn I responded to this, but I don't see it. Anyway, the gist was I'd be happy if he "just" got to the SO rate he had in his other minor league season - roughly 23% of his plate appearances - rather than the 33% rate he's at now. And he has been showing progress over the last several games.

It'd be ridiculous to sit a college OF picked that high - for the rest of the season. I understand the logic with sitting pitchers - but not with OFers.

Jose Torres sounds interesting and local. I don't think they pick him in the 2nd round, but I could see them picking him in the 3rd round.

I'll have you know that Lew Ford is a legend... of Long Island Duck fans. He actually played 11 seasons with them - 7 as player-coach. Not sure if they paid him or he paid them.

Yeah, I think that way, they can almost tell the truth when they say they got their top-rated guy - since he was in their top tier. It lets them not necessarily flat out lie when asked if their 1st round picks were their top-rated players.
