  1. I almost gotta wonder if there's something physically wrong with him. That was the most inexplicable base-running decision I've seen in a longggg time.
  2. I appreciate your views and the logic you use in coming to them. It wouldn't be as much fun if this was an echo chamber. ?
  3. So do you think it's a good plan to extend the period of non-competing in order to have a justifiable reason to keep costs down. And spending money to try to win is generally a needlessly risky idea?
  4. That would make sense if a message board was responsible for hiring and firing. He gave up a total of 9 runs - 8 of them in 2 innings. The rest of his time, he gave up 1 run in 3.2 innings, so 2 bad games did him in. At Norfolk that year, he pitched 70.2 innings with a WHIP of 1.047 and 80 SO's vs 18 W's, 2.42 ERA. Also did very well the year before in Norfolk in 81.2 innings. Oh well.
  5. Interesting. We need creative thinking to compete with bigger markets, and that's a good one.
  6. Right, there's no reason to assume money saved by low payroll in one year is then routed to the next year or any future year - especially considering that in the years they don't spend - they are most likely getting declining revenues.
  7. Speaking of Baylor, he was an absolute freak of an athlete. He and Bobby Grich came up together in the O's organization and put up absurd numbers before getting the call to Baltimore in 1970. Too bad both put up their biggest power number with the Angels in the steroid era. I think Baylor's power was already established before then, and he finished his career is 338 homers, 285 steals, and an amazing 267 HBP's. Check out the 1979 stats for Baylor and Grich - amazing numbers.
  8. Pardons if anyone's mentioned Rich Rodriquez, but he's one that got away. He had 2 excellent years at Norfolk and a cup of coffee at Baltimore in 2017 before he was released. Does anyone remember why the O's let him go? He's done real well for Pittsburg and became their closer. Right before the trade deadline, he was traded to Atlanta for very talented 23 year old starter Bryse Wilson. Rodriquez is now a key guy in Atlanta's chase for an NL East championship - just behind the Mets and Phillies. Bryse Wilson is exactly the type of young pitcher the O's should be looking for.
  9. While it'd be great to compete sooner rather than later, I don't think signing a 37 year old - even as great as Scherzer - is the way to go.
  10. And he was chosen for the 2019 Futures Game, which... ahem O's... used to be a prestigious honor.
  11. Not only hasn't Franco hit, but he can't run. He often limps to first base. It's been a joke that he's continued to play while clearly not healthy - considering he wasn't any good when he was healthy.
  12. Yes, it should pay off - maybe not right away but eventually. I think it's more risky to not spend money and to permanently lose fans. The people that post here are mostly lifers, but the majority of baseball fans can actually find something better to do and develop other hobbies. And the young folks that are not getting their introduction into the game, are the non-fans of tomorrow. Even people like me have completely stopped buying Orioles merchandise - no O'schise. Living equadistant between DC and Baltimore, I don't even like the Nats, but I bought a big supply of Nats masks for friends and relatives, because people respect the Nats and like them. The O's have been a joke for years now. The product matters.
  13. To improve the quality of their product - which should lead to increased revenues.
  14. Given the payroll the O's have and have had for the last few seasons - other than Chris Davis - who should be covered by insurance - if they can't afford one reasonably high-priced free agent, they shouldn't be in the business.
  15. If that's the case, it probably makes sense to get out of the business.
  16. The most impressive thing about that play wasn't the range or the arm; it was how he had the balance to make an accurate throw while running toward 3rd base.
  17. His outstanding play in the 3rd base side hole last night was 2nd on ESPN's top 10 highlights of the day. No question that he's a talented defensive SS. He also does a nice job of being the infield boss out there on popups.
  18. Buy someone who's on the verge of being a TOR - hopefully there's someone like that on the FA list. Always keep an eye out for an opportunity to consolidate assets (OF prospects) to get a great blocked prospect - yes, I'm particularly talking about CJ Abrams - but also similar type situations. Btw, Abrams' trade value took a fall - he's out for the season with a fractured tibia and a sprained MCL. Hopefully, he'll have a complete quick recovery. Once they can start trading again, I'd make him a trade priority, and get the best pitcher they can in free agency. There's room enough in Baltimore for Abrams, Westburg, and Henderson - when all of them are ready.
  19. I watched it again, and was not positioned in the ally. He got his usual late jump on it. Again, for any of the other O's OFers, it would have been a routine play.
  20. That's bolognaise. It was a routine fly ball for all of the other O's OFers.
  21. I think every single game I've seen that he's played the OF this season - his lack of range has cost the O's at least one run. This game he's failed to catch 2 OF popups and made a ridiculously bad throw to home plate. Every time I say this he proves me right - he should NEVER play the OF.
  22. I'm pleased for Knight, but why do they continue with the charade that Diplan is a real prospect?
  23. Guilty as charged. Hopefully he continues to prove me wrong.
  24. I expect some combo of Urias and Martin will hold the fort until Westburg becomes the O's shortstop by early 2023.
  25. Well, whichever Yankee pitcher we beat tonight, it should be a high-scoring game.
