    Joey Ortiz 2021

And he's one I think they're handling right - being 22 in AA. Interesting that all 4 of his homers were at Bowie even though he had 30 more at bats at Aberdeen. Are balls not travelling out in Aberdeen?
  2. He hasn't pitched enough to make a call - 5.1 MLB innings and 11.1 in AAA.
  3. Are your comments about his stuff stinking just because he doesn't throw hard, or is there more to it than that?

He hasn't been there forever, but didn't they do any work last year?
  5. Looking forward to the updates - especially on Grenier and all pitchers named Kyle B that were acquire in a Bundy trade.
  6. Right, for teams that are smart enough to use him that in a way to give him a reasonable chance for success, he'd be useful. But since the O's haven't really done that for the most part, he likely has very little trade value. I concur with Aristotelian about Lowther. Lowther and Kremer should be given major opportunities with Baltimore throughout this year.
  7. Well, that's a sticky situation.
  8. Palmer said the best way to use the rosin bag was to put it on his forearms - to stop the sweat from reaching his hands. He said he wouldn't put it on his hands. Sweat was the biggest problem for him in gripping the ball.

What's he gonna learn in AA?
  10. This is a post I'd really like the O's brass to read and react to.
  11. Just enjoying that moment. Sheesh, he must have slid 10 feet after landing on his belly and bounced right up like it was nothing. What a great reaction by Villar.
  12. I'd be surprised if he'd be effective as a reliever. He clearly has the mindset of a starter, and his first and second inning stats are worse than his overall stats. He seems like a good guy who gave everything he had, so I wish him well, but I don't think he should be on the O's roster anymore.

Thing is - he did very well in AA 2 years ago, and he's 24 already. Granted, the pandemic threw things off, but it seems like a case of either the O's not believing in him or them being too slow to promote him.
  14. We might not score 10 runs tonight. Walker's real good, and then they have a strong bullpen. Wells goes against his old team, but he's having a bad season. It's a big game for him. And if he can keep Alonzo from doing much damage, he should have a successful outing. If he flops, maybe it's time for the O's to let him go. <I'm trying to motivate him.>
  15. After an awful April, where he OPS'd .551 in 16 games, Santander OPS'd .924 in 11 games in May, and .973 so far in 6 June games, so it's taken a while, and we don't know if he'll stay healthy, but we can see the talent there. If he can stay healthy enough to get 500 plus plate appearances, that would go a ways toward giving the O's some faith in depending on him to stay healthy in the future. And it'd be nice to see what he can accomplish while staying healthy.
  16. The biggest problem I see there is we're intentionally trying to lower the number of quality MLB years he'll have as a catcher.
  17. What would really be unnerving if this has already spread to the minor leagues - particularly if there are pushers selling the stuff to minor league coaches - who then give it to the players and teach them how to use it. Maybe I'm naive to think it hasn't already gotten to that point. It'd be very deflating if we hear that any of our top performing prospects are found to be cheating.
  18. And if the teams are actually developing their own substances to get the most effective ones for their players and distributing them to their players, that makes it an enormous problem that can't be ignored. And whether or not they should have done something about it before doesn't really matter, because we can't change the past. We can change the present and future.
  19. How about doing the posters here a favor and not act like this is a courtroom with you as the prosecuting attorney. Then maybe we can begin to have a conversation. Until/if you change your posting style, I'm not responding to you.
  20. 1. You tell me. 2. The article talked about that. The most effective stuff appears to be new this year. There are likely organizations spending a lot of resources trying to improve it as you think of more smarmy comments and questions.. 3. You tell me.
  21. I'm not sure why people are trying to rationalize this away. It's a real problem. Spin rates have never increased like this before, and it appears to be because of the new substances. It's a legit reaction by MLB to try to stop it. And if teams are really supplying this stuff to their players, there should be severe penalties.
  22. Wow, that was painful to listen to. I guess the question is - How creative will the players and their chemists be in continuing to hide the use this stuff? Maybe get a substance that disappears after a few seconds - once it's exposed to light.
  23. Wells looks like a 20 year old phenom. Are they sure he's 26?
  24. Wow, what's the O's record for most doubles in a game?
