He had to dig out of a horrible .197 batting average in April, where he still managed a .754 OPS. He rebounded nicely in May (289/366/500/866). I just noticed his reverse splits. His OPS against RH is .909 (142 AB), his OPS against LH is .524 (32 AB SSS).

MLB.com has a slightly shorter timeframe for lat strains in their glossary. "Recovery time varies depending on the strain, with Grade 1 strains typically requiring 2-3 weeks and Grade 2 strains usually taking at least a month. Grade 3 strains often require surgery, however, and can come with considerably longer recovery periods."

They're both below sub-par. Neither would likely be a part of a broadcast team for any ML team. To me Newman is trying too hard, searching for her own style but overdoing it almost all the time. I want her to succeed but she needs a lot of refinement. I miss Mel Proctor and John Lowenstein.

I get what you are saying, but I'm just not sold on that narrative. I think Elias is the unfortunate dartboard of the expectations of this board. It's not that he doesn't see winning as important. It's that he believes the organization is still not strong enough to be a consistent contender, and doesn't want to waste money until it's clear that we are.

Honestly... I wouldn't be upset if Elias selected 100% pitchers this year.
