  1. Competitive balance means the Yankees should not be able to go to the playoffs every year while Pitt, Balt, Oak, Mil, go 3 times every 20 years.
  2. I disagree. I don't think small revenue teams have any edge in analytics. Large market teams spend more on analytics and probably have more experts on payroll to interpret and action against the data.
  3. Right....As long as the Yankees go to the post season 19 of 20 years they might not change much (and why should they). But they miss 3 years in a row, while Tampa/O's keep winning, you better believe they will throw their money at ME and other like him, and will triple their tech and development budgets.
  4. I somewhat disagree with this. What if the Yankees decided they wanted to play some teams from Japan as part of their schedule? The MLB is like one big company with 32 divisions within it. Teams can't just do what they want.
  5. Lets not kid ourselves. The Yanks, BoSox, Dodgers all have access to the same tech and can spend more on it. Sure Tampa has been run well, and ME is doing a great job with us. But large market teams can replicate what Tampa has done, and couple that with big free agents as well. Lets not act like tech is the big equalizer for small market teams.
  6. I could be OK with this if coupled with a hard salary cap. The goal is to create a fair playing field. Right now the Yankees can outspend us both on the field and off the field. There is a reason NY makes the playoffs 19 out of every 20 years.
  7. Missed that....good. I'm fine as a give away, rather not see them on the field.
  8. Ugg. Im a big believer in team colors. Can't imagine Yankee fans would like to see there team where red jerseys. Stick with Orange, Black and White.....I'm fine with grey road jerseys. Purple does not say Orioles to me.
  9. I have no idea what you are saying.....is it just me?
  10. High 80's. Real good shot at a WC spot. Start of a 5 year run of playoff level baseball.
  11. I think DD was exactly what we needed when he showed up. We went 15 years always looking to the future, and Dan/Buck stated that the goal was to win now. Sure they had faults, but from 2012-2016 (and maybe even 2017) this team had a legit shot at WS success. It's the only time in the last 24 years we could say that.
  12. Two playoff wins since 2013.....that's more than my Browns have had in 30 years!
  13. It will always be Cal squeezing that routine pop up!
  14. Well sure, we should always be aiming to win the division, but if we are on an 88 win pace in late July/Aug trailing the division leader by 8 games, we still have a legit shot at a WS.
  15. Yep, I've even heard "going in as a weak WC is useless, rather get a better draft pick than an early first round exit"
  16. The Phillies won 4 more games than us over a 162 game season. 4 games! That's a couple of bad calls, a bad bounce, a bad weather game or two away from the same record. The lesson? Don't worry about being just a WC team. Build a team to get into the playoffs 7 out of every 10 years, then take a shot in these short series. The Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, are all better than the Phillies. But a hot streak might win them the title.
  17. What do you think Fan Graphs % to make the playoffs for the Orioles will be for 2023? If it's less than 10% in April do we go for it, or continue to build the farm system?
  18. Yea, I agree. Who cares if its the Cubs or the Twins right now. The rules are the same. Just win.
  19. I'm reading a lot of this. Not to rain on everyone's fun, but lets be real, Rutschman will most likely play 5 years or so with the O's, then be dealt or leave for free agency. Manny should have been our next guy in the hall, and a retired number. I fear AR will go the Machado route.
  20. Doo you think the O's revenue can support $50M a year in player payroll?
  21. Didn't realize it was baseball season. My NY Rangers are still alive, so haven't really been paying attention. I am pleasantly surprised to see the O's are not mathematically eliminated already,
  22. I will continue to follow my 10 under rule, watch with regularity until they fall below 10 under .500. That could happen late April this year.
  23. I see 58 wins. Starters will be hard pressed to average more than 4 innings per start and the pen will give up a number of 7th inning leads.
  24. Another way to look at it: Keeping more money in the owners pocket is worth more than the joy of 20-25 more wins for the fans. Unfortunately this has turned into an all or nothing pursuit. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the O's in the WS again in the worst way. But the season is long, and a 75 win team keeps your interest in the dog days of summer especially in a league with more wild card slots. A 55 win team loses fan interest around Memorial Day.
  25. I agree, this is not a surprise. But it also shouldn't be a surprise That fans will again avoid OPACY and MASN until the team is ready to try and actually win ball games. Mid to small market MLB team GM's have concluded that the best way to build a team is to tank for 4-6 years, and they may well be right. But fans are not obligated to financially support the team during those 4-6 years.
