The other thing about this that no one mentions is that it was an epic battle to begin with. He fouled off two pitches right away, got into a quick 0-2 count. Battled back to 3-2 while fouling off more pitches and then hits that homer.
I also always liked this, too.
Talk about an all-time jinx. if NBC doesn't flash that graphic in front of Eck, does Gibson hit that homer? We'll never know.
I also don't know how to describe this, but there's something about the way sports were broadcast in the mid-late 80s, especially night baseball games that has always just looked so cool to me. It's slightly fuzzy, slightly grainy with great contrasts and tones, I'm not really sure how to put it into words. But this, the Buckner grounder, Ryan's 5000th strikeout, etc...I dunno what it is about the way those broadcasts look but I can't get enough of it. I'm sure you guys think I'm crazy and I probably am.
