  1. I’m gonna saddle @Frobbywith some more research since I wouldn’t know where to look and he also seems to have a lot of time on his hands… I’m curious as to how often someone like Mateo has won a FB award but was not even nominated for the GG?
  2. Good to see. Happy he got some recognition.
  3. I think Manager of the Year is the one award that someone can win and fans of that team don't like it.
  4. Not only that but had a significantly smaller payroll than any team in his division and still finished above .500.
  5. If it doesn't hasten the Angelos family to get to sell the franchise, it's a nothingburger, IMO. I could not give a Frenchman's **** about a rubber Angelos signature stamp and whether or not Fells Wargo knew that the old man is ill.
  6. Pederson seems to be headed towards becoming a player who's one dimensional and that is antithetical to what Elias likes in a player. He doesn't offer any real roster flexibility if his defense is cratering.
  7. You know, what plays to run on which downs. Throw on 3rd and long, etc.
  8. Let's not forget that MLBTR is a site that was started by a guy living in his mom's basement, regurgitating trade rumors that were posted elsewhere. They have no real connections to FO sources in the game and their guesses are probably as good as any of ours. I will tip my hat, it's a good lesson that if anyone wanted to start a site where you could aggregate information and do a half-assed job of passing it off as something you heard and probably make money through some google ad revenue, it can be done. But I don't believe this site has any "experts." I mean, if they think re-signing Aguilar makes sense, that's all you need to know about the depth of their knowledge. Aguilar is going to be lucky to be in the majors at all next year, let alone being looked at as a player that a team should be looking to sign. I'm not so sure. I know Elias loves his picks, but I bet Elias loves his picks a little bit more if they're closer to the top of the round. I think he could be willing to part with one since we'll be picking lower. But I can see your point, too. I don't get the love for Eovaldi. That's a guy who has some nasty raw stuff and I've always felt like he should have been a much better pitcher than he's been. He's had some good years, but his career ERA is over 4.00 and his career WHIP is 1.32. For the right price, I guess he'd be okay but I've always thought he's a guy that's never reached his true potential. I'd take Bassit, too.
  9. I think Hall should be starting. At least given every opportunity to start. For my bullpen, I'd go with Bautista at closer, Perez, Akin, Tate, Baker as guys who'd enter ST with roles nailed down. Not sure who else is out there for us to get but I agree with SG for the need for power arms. And I'd also like a focus on guys who induce more ground balls instead of air outs. I do believe our infield defense should be a strength headed into next year so I want guys on the staff who throw more ground ball outs. I am confident in Elias' and his staff's ability to get guys with good raw stuff and shape them into solid bullpen pieces, they did that with Perez and Baker this year. Baker had his hiccups but would come back around. So I'm not sure who's out there as a good Rule 5 candidate, waiver claim, trade candidate or whatever but I think our bullpen should once again be a strength next year.
  10. The Nationals might have been the worst team in baseball. The Sox could thump a little bit. While they were last place, they weren't completely inept. I agree the unbalanced schedule will help us, but I really liked having more games against the division. I want to see how we stack up against the rest of the teams in the best division in baseball rather than having to play j*** off games against the Pirates, Marlins, etc.
  11. I feel the need to defend DD a little bit here. Coming out of the 98-2011 doldrums, he did a good job of piecemealing a team together that was sometimes great and usually competitive. And at that time, that's all that we wanted, I don't think anyone who was a diehard really cared that DD wasn't setting this team up for future success past what they could get out of the core group that was here for the 2010s. He got a bit creative with guys like Miguel Gonzalez, Chen, Delmon Young, etc. Yes, he mortgaged the future and the drafting and development was pretty poor while he was here but he constructed some great teams and those teams gave us a lot of great memories. DD wasn't the type of GM like Elias is who's whole goal has been to build a consistent winner via a robust pipeline of talent coming up through the system at all times; he was here to get a winner on the field and sustain it the best he could. And he did. That was his strength, but building a minor league development system was not. And even if he did want to, I don't think he had PA's ear to do so. Yeah, he left it in bad shape, I'm not ignorant to that and I don't want to come off as a total DD apologist. But as I said, coming out of that period where this franchise was irrelevant, he put some winners (and some contenders) on the field. You could probably ask him on twitter, he seems really accessible there.
  12. Whenever it comes to these "who would you sign?" or "what would you trade for?" threads, I always just wait until SG opines. And then I say to myself, "Not that one," or "Not that trade." But anyway, I would take a crack at Nimmo because of the OBP as the above poster has stated. And while I love deGrom and I think he's the best pitcher in the game when healthy, he never is healthy. I'd take a crack at Verlander because I do believe he's this generations Nolan Ryan, a power pitcher that'll keep throwing into his mid 40s. The TJ surgery doesn't scare me with today's science and rehab programs.
  13. He's better than Jones but that doesn't mean he deserves the ROY award. Adley was arguably more valuable in less amount of time.
  14. I will say, I am a bit disappointed in the Orioles lack of a hype machine for guys that could be up for awards. Granted, I might have missed something but I've not seen anything anywhere on Twitter, Instagram, e-mail about how Mateo should be up for a GG. Or Adley. Saw some light Adley for ROY stuff but I feel like they just caved to the Julio Rodriguez machine.
  15. Teams that peak at this time of year or are hot heading into the playoffs probably stand a better chance. And playoff baseball is the best.
  16. I didn't realize Henderson was represented by Boras. Let's see how far the "yes sir, yes ma'am, aw shucks" thing goes for him amongst Orioles fans while Boras is doing his bidding for him.
  17. Probably not. It’s a shame his career has gone the way it had he was great.
  18. Man, I bet the Federal League didn’t use a lot of pitchers.
  19. Bro, there’s a link in the OP that tracks all of this for you.
