  1. He started at 19. And racked up 190 innings in his age 20 season. So he's been around for awhile but he started early and put a lot of innings on that arm early so it's not a total surprise he hasn't been effective into his 30s. But longevity is part of what separates the guys like Verlander, Kershaw, Greinke and Scherzer from a guy like Felix. I was going to also say that Greinke doesn't feel like a Hall of Famer to me but he's racked up 72.2.WAR and 208 wins against 126 losses. As SG mentioned, if Jack Morris is in, you can certainly make a case for Felix. You could probably make a case for Johann Santana, too.
  2. The whole "we just signed a guy off the scrap heap that anyone else could have signed and we can flip him at the deadline for a prospect" is one of my least favorite tropes on OH.
  3. Yeah, I doubt it. Whatever. Ben McDonald >>>> Davis
  4. Man, if you were born in 1940 you have every right to be pissed.
  5. I'm with Frobito on this, I'd rather see what King Felix can do rather than some quad-A guy.
  6. Lol, this ain't the Titanic. If it was, it sunk sometime around 1987. This is like two schmucks in a skiff off the coast of the Eastern Shore somewhere who got lost and can't find their way back.
  7. There's a lot of upside to Jones. Elias must be confident in the analytics and all of the newfangled stuff he's installed to coax the best out of him.
  8. Let's hope that the physical is already done.
  9. This is good to see. Also will be good in a couple of years if some of the J2 guys are contributing.
  10. I hope you're using the term "benefitted" loosely.
  11. Happy about this deal. Cobb leaving frees up a rotation spot for a youngster (hopefully) and Jones seems like he could be a good get.
  12. Curious to see what AAAA type we get back. You know the trade returns are underwhelming when they're not immediately reported. Probably a cost cutting move and even then I am betting we're paying a decent chunk of Cobb's 2021 salary. Anyway, best of luck to him.
  13. Kind of a nothingburger of an article. I mean, I know Trezza has to write stuff but it's just an article that encapsulates why Santander and Mancini could be traded or not be traded. @Bahama O's Fan, Davis better not be playing at all. IIRC, the rosters are 26 men but we're essentially playing with a 25 man roster because Davis is worthless.
  14. I don't believe #4 and #5 starters are still on the market because Trevor Bauer is still unsigned. They're practically separate markets. If you need a fringe starter and aren't willing to pay big bucks like the Orioles, you're not focused on where Bauer lands or for how much. On the flip side of that coin, if you're trying to get Bauer you're not looking at #4 and #5 guys.
  15. A lot of us said things back in 2018, not knowing a global pandemic would throw a monkey wrench into things. Overall, I'm happy with what he's done. The system is better than it was when he took over. There's a focus on getting good international talent in the system. There's a focus on advanced metrics and analytics. The product at the ML level still sucks but at least there's some hope on the horizon. I'm fine with what he's done so far and I think it'll pay off in the coming years.
  16. I'm not going to dig my heels in like War Eagle here, but at 31 I don't expect his defense to be going up. Doesn't totally matter, it's a one year deal anyway. If his defense holds steady from what it was in 2019, that's fine.
  17. Meh. I dunno. I agree that money is probably tight but we don't know exactly how tight it is. It's obviously not tight enough to give a SS a 1.25 million contract. At the end of the day, the rule 5 guys have issues, Galvis has issues but to me it's whatever. I think they're more hoping that an SS steps up in our system this summer, such as Frobby and I discussed. But even if the Rule 5 guy isn't great, you probably can't send him down, you'd have to offer him back to his original team. So you've got that stupid rule that makes you carry that guy all year or else. If it turns out that guy isn't ready, he's most likely going back to his original team and then at that point you need to have a backup, that's probably Ritchie Martin. I don't think Galvis is particularly great but it's a one year deal and he's proven.
  18. I'm not trolling you when I click on Wander (no, I'm not Franco) Javier and see that he last hit .177 and has an injury history. Livan Soto hit .220 in AAA ball. The scouting report on Omar Estevez says he doesn't have the tools to stick at SS in the majors. There's a reason these guys were out there and didn't get selected. Maybe some of them do have a future but with Galvis you know what you're going to get. If they signed him to a multi year deal, I'd be upset by it but it's a one year deal...it's fine.
