  1. Chris Davis should cover home on every play where a runner tries to score from first.
  2. I'm sure the rest of the bullpen can handle those innings, especially when they take their starter out after 68 pitches.
  3. Anybody see their 4 OFer shift agains Joey Gallo?
  4. Like Hayden Penn, Mordecai is not a baseball name.
  5. In addition to Price, Boston is losing Wright for 15 games for being a POS.
  6. Right handed against Abad. May end up platooning with Rasmus if his defense holds up.
  7. I was listening to a radio broadcast about the Nats ST. They said it was the first time taking IF with the shift. Under Williams and Baker, the Nationals had been reluctant to use the shift. It got me thinking about the use of fielding metrics to describe a pitcher's success. If you take the same pitcher who is a groundball/low strikeout guy and put him in front of two defenses (one that incorporates shifts and one that does not) you'd expect them to have more success with the shifted defense. Has there been reporting, either by Fangraphs or something else, where they look at a pitcher's ability to get contact into the shift and how that may impact the "luck" factor?
  8. He might have. What I read was it was something to keep him up while driving. So I doubt that's weed. To get suspended, do you have to be caught twice?
  9. Forest Whitley, a top target in last year's Britton trade talks, has been suspended 50 games.
  10. Wait, does that mean you are only giving him a 5% chance of being, at best, slightly worse than his career numbers?
  11. I don't think anybody is expecting him to replicate his 2017 season. But I would definitely pay more for a guy who is slightly above league average for his career (102 ERA+) and gives you around 160 IP/year than a reliever who has been up and down in his career and will give you 40-60IP/yr. IMO the market for starters has over corrected at the same time the reliever market is overpriced.
  12. http://www.masnsports.com/school-of-roch/2018/02/orioles-deal-with-andrew-cashner-is-official.html Sounds like they are start and IP based: 250k for starts 10 and 15. 625k for start 20. 400k for start 30. 250k for 110 and 120 IP. 275k for 130. $350 for 140. $750k for 150. 400k for 170, 180, 190, 200 IP. So, if my math is correct, he would have earned $3M in incentives based on last year's numbers.
  13. Haven't read the entire thread, but the incentive structure is pretty creative. Many are easily achievable, but it protects the team from injury and creates incentives to not run him out there if he struggles unlike 8 figure starters in the the past.
  14. Kind of wild that a starter that had a 4.6 WAR last season gets $16M and Tommy Hunter, 93 IP over the last two seasons, gets $18M. I like Hunter too.
  15. I'd quibble with the Bonds second contract as not being good. 5/90 and about 30 rWAR.
  16. I thought that Cubs start was 17, but it was '16.
  17. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/latest-on-brewers-rotation.html Hader still isn't getting a look as a starter.
  18. Ugggh. Madison dropped a lot of passes. They also had a big penalty on the first possession when ND State was punting that turned into a TD. Frustrating game.
  19. Can't believe Bergesen is only 32.
  20. Some more details on the contract. It looks like the $2M base is not guaranteed. He has to make the Opening Day roster. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/brewers-yovani-gallardo-agree-to-deal.html
  21. Greg Zaun. https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadspin.com/former-mlb-player-gregg-zaun-fired-from-broadcasting-jo-1820900328/amp
  22. Logan Verrett signs with a KBO squad.
  23. No expansion. No re-alignment. Change the playoffs. The teams with the best records in each league go straight to the LCS. Add two more wild cards for each league. Hold a six team, double elimination tournament with the two remaining division leaders getting byes. Winner plays the team with best record in a best of seven. Currently you see 7-11 games before the LCS. In this format you will have 8-9 games, if my back of the napkin sketch is correct.
