It was bush league. Just like Manny. All you Manny lovers can slobber all over him but he is bush league. When he scored the winning run last night he slowed down for an instant around third and just beat the throw.

He also pitched so why not a 1?

Obviously they kept it to no more than two numbers.  No idea why, I was just trying to be helpful.

I understand.  It was helpful.  Florimon was primarily a shortstop.  I didn't understand the double digit numbers.  Didn't realize it represented positions when presented in that format.

You're pretty far off the mark here. It was very clear to see that Manny was deliberate in dragging his foot to make sure he caught Aguilar's ankle. Looking at the angle from down the right field line, Manny's foot drags almost out of the baseline... wouldn't have mattered where Aguilar's foot was on the base.. it was going to get kicked. There's really no defending Manny for this play.

I thought Aguilar handles himself well both on the field and in front of the media.  But he kept his foot on the bag an awfully long time.  He catches the ball before Manny makes his stride with his right leg.  First basemen are taught to get their foot out of the way.  He also has his heel far back on the bag.  If he receives the ball like a fundamentally sound first baseman should, then Manny wouldn't have made contact with him without kicking his left leg out.

  4. I'll say it.  If it was Chris Taylor running, makes contact with Aguilar, and rolls his ankle, then the narrative is that Aguilar had his foot too far back on the bag for too long.

But it's Manny.  And, oh my, his hair!

I understand Aguilar getting upset, and I understand Yelich's comments.  The Donaldson series of events will continue to follow him through his career.  And of course Pedroia gets hurt on a legal slide and it's Manny's fault, so he should get fastballs thrown up around his head.

But if I was Milwaukee, I'd try to prevent him from getting on base 40% of the time so he can't score the winning run.

  5. Davis: Amidst the boos, there are always people picking me up. I think our fan base understands the amount of work that goes into it, the effort that is there on a night-in, night-out basis. But I know they want results. I don’t like the boos but I understand their frustration."

Right handed against Abad.  May end up platooning with Rasmus if his defense holds up.

  7. I was listening to a radio broadcast about the Nats ST.  They said it was the first time taking IF with the shift.  Under Williams and Baker, the Nationals had been reluctant to use the shift.  It got me thinking about the use of fielding metrics to describe a pitcher's success.

If you take the same pitcher who is a groundball/low strikeout guy and put him in front of two defenses (one that incorporates shifts and one that does not) you'd expect them to have more success with the shifted defense.

Has there been reporting, either by Fangraphs or something else, where they look at a pitcher's ability to get contact into the shift and how that may impact the "luck" factor?
