I think the chances are <5%, and that it would take 5 healthy years to do it.     The fact that Nick took so little money to stay in Atlanta tells me that he’s not going to become an itinerant ballplayer in search of ekeing out every last hit. My guess is he’ll play 2-3 years (including this one) and call it a career.

He may play as long as Atlanta wants him.  I don't see him going anywhere else either. At $4M per, that's something the Braves may be interested in.

Harper walks a ton which is going to cut down on his chances.

He does.  At least last year he did.  He'd have to average 160 hits a season to get there.  I know he's only exceeded that once in his MVP year (172), but I still think it's a possibility if healthy.

Hey, he’s already got more hits than Edgar Martinez and Joe DiMaggio!  ?

I’d say Nick would have some chance to get in if he somehow got over 3,000 hits, because that’s such a time-honored milestone.   He’s 4th on the active hit list behind Pujols, Cabrera and Cano, and looking at the players behind him the best candidates for 3000 are:

    Justin Upton (31) 1604

    Elvis Andrus (30) 1570

    Starlin Castro (29) 1454

    Jose Altuve (29) 1425

    Mike Trout (27) 1194

    Manny Machado (26) 1056

If I’m guessing, I’d say the first three won’t make it.    They all started very young but don’t average that many hits per year.    I like the chances for Altuve, Trout and Manny if they stay healthy.

I'd give Freeman consideration due to position.  It depends on how long he plays.  Also like Harper's chances because he's locked in for 13 years though he has an injury history.

I love steaks on the grill. Ribeeye is my preference.

    I fix them 2 ways:

#1 - Marinate overnight in Sweet Baby Rays BBQ after I beat them with a meat hammer. After you cook the steak, they have a nice flavor, but not sure I would call it BBq.

#2 - McCormicks Montreal Steak Seasoning is a really good blend that I use quite often, even on burgers.

    When eating Steak out

#1 - Longhorn Seven Pepper Rub is outstanding. Not ever on the menu, but never found a waitstaff that didnt know exactly what it was when i asked for it. I would love to buy this, so far havent seen anything like this.

Choice 2 is the way to go. I like to add shrimp that's been marinated in Old Bay and lemon juice.

  5. That pitching matchup lived up to its billing.  Both were great.  De Grom gave up more runners, and was bailed out on a base running mistake, but that was a heck of a performance.

Here's an earth shaking deal. RG3 doesnt like it, so it must be good. :)

Maybe we can get Griffin to come back to be scout team safety.

I don't see how one can knock that trade.  They only had one QB on the current roster who can physically play.  And McCoy gets hurt all the time.  Now they have depth with Keenum for 3.5M.  They can still trade for Rosen or draft a QB.  But they don't have to get desperate.  They can also draft a project in the later rounds like Brett Rypien or Tyree Jackson and not play them in 2019.

This team makes a ton of bad moves.  This wasn't one of them.

Good!  You got 5...and you had Scherzer too...no bonuses or deferred ...just what is due in 2019 season only.

    Strasburg 38.3 million

    Scherzer 37.4 million

    Greinke 34.5 million

    Trout 34.1 million

    Price 31 million

    Kershaw 31 million

    Miggy Cabrera 30 million

Wait, is Cabrera at $30M, making more than $30M?  :)

Do Manny and Bryce not count because part of their competition is bonus?

I’ll try: Kershaw, Greinke, Price, Cabrera, Pujols, Trout....that’s all I got.

By the way, I’m taking you literally.   Scherzer’s deferred comp doesn’t count.

By the way, technically Harper is getting $30 mm this year if you include his $20 mm signing bonus.

Why doesn't Scherzer and his deferred salary not count?  I was going to list him until I saw your post.

Stanton?  Is Pujols making more than 30?

okay, not Stanton or Pujols.  Stanton won't make over $30 for a few seasons.

3B isn't something you just learn on the fly IMO without at least coming up in the minors as an infielder.  Have there been any examples of this?

You see guys learn the OF or 1B on the fly.  Even players who are developed as 3B can have great difficulty with the position.  It's probably the fourth most difficult position on the diamond.

BJ Surhoff, kind of.  Came up as a catcher, transitioned to 3B for a few seasons before moving to the OF.

  10. I look forward comparing and contrasting the rebuilding efforts of teams like Philly, CWS, Baltimore, SD, and Atlanta over the next several seasons.

Chicago had three very attractive pieces: Sale, Quintana, and Eaton.  Three guys that they signed to team friendly deals and shipped off for uber-prospects.  Moncada was #1 at the time, Giolito was #3 at some point.

They timed their rebuild around the "historic" FA class of 2018-2019.  But it looks like they'll get shut out.

They play in a division that's not very good and they seem unable to capitalize on it.
