  1. Soto is a generational bat who is going to lose a ton of WAR because he is a bad defender and baserunner. At some point he'll be a 50M a year DH, he runs like an old man at 25 years old.
  2. Thanks for bumping it then.
  3. What teams might be sellers?
  4. I don't feel like they fixed Yohan Ramirez.
  5. I'm fine knowing salaries. I'd want to know if the Yankees or Dodgers have an 800 million-dollar payroll so I could make even more fun of their fans.
  6. By their own grading metrics, he wasn't even the worst ump they had by the numbers. The fans hated him, but I doubt he'd take a hush deal when he could show that he's not even the worst ump in the sport by their grading systems.
  7. I made a joke in the game thread he should never be allowed to throw the ball past the cutoff man on the outfield grass.
  8. You didn't have to be around back then to know the history. They weren't really fake, but they were hardly ever to the death. They were slaves owned by companies that were hired to put on a show. They weren't cheap to buy and train. If you think it went down like the movie Gladiator, then you'd probably have been disappointed. If you are bloodthirsty and want to watch people get maimed and mangled, I'm sure there are some unsanctioned sports you can find in Eastern Europe to scratch that seemingly bizarre itch.
  9. I find it hard to believe that statistically, by whatever metric they use he wasn't even the worst ump in the game.
  10. We didn't draft him. Brooks The Great is going to have a 40-man full of only Orioles-drafted players.
  11. He missed most of last year with a medical issue I believe, maybe he's had enough. Edit: Hernandez worked only 10 games last season because of a back injury, but he missed 161 calls, according to Umpire Auditor. Hernandez was never considered MLB’s worst umpire, according to MLB’s statistical studies and reports, but in the court of public opinion, there wasn’t anyone who missed more calls as a home-plate umpire.
  12. Bucknor, Wendelstedt, Diaz, Eddings, flip a coin.
  13. Probably made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Next up, Laz Diaz.
  14. Connor Wong is slashing .333/.367/.488 with an OPS+ of 137 coming into today. He would have the second-highest OPS on the Orioles behind Gunnar.
  15. He has no options, which is why they traded for him, he was DFA'd and likely wouldn't have made it to the O's. You can't option him.
  16. Wait, he was distressed because he was in AAA and that hampered his talent, and now that he's on the MLB team his true talent is showing up? That's a hot take.
  17. I'm glad Stowers had a great game but he had a 111 wRC+ in AAA at 26 years old. Holliday has a 134 wRC+ as a 20-year-old. In a league that has terrible pitching, Stowers struck out 27% of the time and was batting .240 with an OBP of .315, he was slugging which has never been the question but still has an OPS lower than Holliday despite being 6 years older. I'd be a little guarded in the hyperbole surrounding this sample size.
  18. 2 series in a row with not getting swept. The count is on!
  19. If you get a chance to watch it they weren't competitive pitches, they were balls out of the hand, even the close ones.
  20. Are we really going to have to use another RP?
  21. Yeah, I was more interested in a guy with a hose like that. I mean the title said laser beam and it still shocked me.
  22. There is a delicate balance of breaking in rookies on a 100-win team. Brooks the Great would certainly be a better choice to do that than Hyde. He's got it all figured out.
  23. Sorry, Otter. If they are going to find a video of when he was throwing the ball well, they're going to be looking for a needle in a haystack.
  24. He'd probably get snagged on waivers by a team with nothing to lose.
