  1. I suspect Getz will look to move him at the deadline, more chance for desperation than there is in the off-season.
  2. Seems like Getz is asking for too much. He wanted 5 prospects from the Reds (allegedly) and three of them. Lowder, Arroyo, and Phillips are all top 70 prospects. Edit for perspective. The Reds have a top farm system and CWS asked for their 2, 3, and 4th-ranked prospects. That's Cowser, Kjerstad, and Mayo for us.
  3. Wonder what is going to happen with Montgomery. I was hoping we'd be in on him, but I'm sure we're priced out of any discussions. I haven't seen many rumors.
  4. It's not a great city to live in during the NBA season and there are plenty of other states that have much nicer climates and much more reasonable tax rates. The Knicks are a train wreck of an org, but NYC isn't as tempting by itself as it used to be. I read an article about SF having trouble getting players because of the city itself, not money or a bad org, just, nobody wants to live there.
  5. Yes, it's always nice to visit and then have the option of leaving.
  6. Living in NY, I can tell you the shine of being a destination city hasn't been a thing in a long time. People are leaving in droves, not looking to come here.
  7. It may never Cease to exist. That was my Christmas wish, no miracle this year.
  8. Very sad news. Whether 8 years or 80 years, life is short.
  9. Did I ridicule you? Really? I'd love to see what I posted because I sure can't find it in the Flaherty threads. I'm not known for ridiculing people, even those who deserve it. Oh, I said thank God you don't run the team. That's ridicule in 2023, apparently. Guess I should retake sensitivity training for the fourth time.
  10. If you look at his last 3 years of statcast data, he didn't do a lot well, except put up 1.8/4.4./4.3 fWAR seasons.
  11. Valdez is also a ground freaking ball machine. I get that he's a geriatric 30-year-old, but he might make it through a season or two if they can get him some help walking to the mound. Also, Cease's numbers are trending down as well and Valdez' pitch values are still very high. I'm not saying that I'd trade for him, but I also am not interested in Cease. To say that Cease is the clear choice here is not close to accurate.
  12. The ever-important seats that haven't had people in them in years. Protect them at all costs.
  13. He might go before then. I wonder what Cohen served him for dinner when he had him at the house on Saturday night.
  14. I highly doubt they trade either Mayo or Basallo. They have enough 23-25-year-olds who are doing well in AAA and are ML-ready. They aren't going to give up a 21-year-old with a .900+ OPS at AAA with big-time power and Basallo is probably as untouchable as Holliday right now.
  15. There has never been a Boras client to sign an extension with less than 2 years of service time. Never.
  16. Why? Just because it would be a historical feat for a Boras client to extend with less than 2 years of service time? Even though he's been an agent for decades, there surely has to be a first time for everything. Maybe.
  17. It's a shocking number 700M. I remember when Messi got 4/674M when he signed with Barcelona and Ronaldo got 518M for 2'ish years. Soccer has some crazy AAV salaries lol.
  18. The Jays reddit, someone posted they should be renamed the Toronto Blue Balled.
  19. I always felt he was staying in CA. I think the whole Jays thing was hoping for a panic buy and it seems to have worked.
  20. Roch must be new here. We've all had lowered expectations for like 20 years now.
  21. Doesn't matter much at all who in the division does what due to the balanced schedule, if the O's beat the teams they are supposed to beat, they'll likely end up in the playoffs and all bets are off there.
  22. I agree with almost all of this except the first paragraph about Henderson. Holliday went through 4 levels at 19 years old, and in his first full season at 20, Gunnar went through 3 levels. At 20 Gunnar had an .826 OPS combined in those 3 levels with 16SB and 56 walks and 143 Ks. At 19, Holliday had a combined .941 OPS across 4 levels with 24 SB and 101 walks to 118 Ks. I'm not ready to say Gunnar was more advanced at the same age. Gunnar did have 17 HRs combined vs 12 for Holliday. Holliday did play 20 more games than Gunnar in the seasons I'm referring to.
  23. They gave him a juiced bat they said. "Ethan needed a redemption round with a juiced bat". It was like one of those Flintstone-sized wiffle ball bats, the barrel was huge.
