  1. Assuming a 1 is an Ace, probably a handful as I believe it's the most misused way to describe a team's number 1 starter in the sport. Words like Ace and Superstar get thrown around way too easily and it's silly.
  2. Some of our members are going to be Grand Council Members on the Sox board before Cease gets traded lol.
  3. Well, his strikeouts are declining each year so maybe he'll get into the 6th more often in 2024. His walk rate of 4.0 probably doesn't help much either nor his 8.7 H9.
  4. I'll be interested to see what happens with Hader. Reports are he wants to beat Diaz's deal by at least a dollar so a 100M+ contract. That's starter money.
  5. I'd do Kjerstad straight up for Cease and I'm not even that high on Cease. In a 1:1 I'd do it, though.
  6. Eh, there are like 5 people on the board responsible for all of the downvoting. It doesn't remove rep like it used to, it just shows who the petty people are.
  7. I spent about 3 minutes looking at the last couple of pages on that Sox site, what a clown show. They actually think the Orioles need to win 100 games this year to go to the playoffs. I just hope they get their deal with the Yankees. You can't expect Cease to be the 2022 version, he never was before and took a big step back last year. K's down 3 years in a row, while still being 10+ it's trending in the wrong direction for 3 straight years and his money maker has almost no pitch value, his slider was awful. I get they need to do better than they did when they traded their last successful pitcher, Chris Sale for Moncada, Kopech, Basabe and Victor Diaz who combined were all worth less WAR than Sale alone was. I know Moncada was going to be the next big thing, but he's been a negative WAR offensive player the past two years and hardly the stud that they thought they were getting. I'd be salty too, and want to shoot for the moon. When you basically have two players on your team worth anything and your farm is not good at all, you need to hit on your trades for those types of players. Let them deal with the Yankees, I'm sure it will work out just fine. While our friends there love the Fangraphs projections, they have Cease at 2.7 fWAR next year. Yeah, we can find that somewhere else, probably in-house.
  8. He had 62 ABs, I'll reserve judgment into the HoF for several more years.
  9. All it took was Jim Duquette to drop a Cease to the Yankees trade proposal on the radio today and viola. He even said it would cost Dominguez. One can hope.
  10. How accurate can their data be on pitchers who have thrown 286, 122, 380, 279, 370 innings? It's hard to project what young players who are starting to figure it out are going to do. It's much easier to do with 6+ years of SP data so you have a sample that you can more accurately project off of. I also don't care where they are ranked, it means absolutely nothing.
  11. It doesn't need to be a safe space, we aren't children here. The fact that fans have been making up all of these trade scenarios on both boards for hundreds of pages of nothing is silly. I've always been meh on Cease for what he'd likely cost and his startling regression in stuff in 2023. I'd much rather deal with Miami or Seattle for younger pitchers who have more control. You aren't scaring anyone when you say that everyone in the East has better pitching than we do, you have no idea how our pitching is going to be next year unless you are expecting everyone to regress, they are young pitchers with a lot of upside, not grizzled vets like Gibson where you know what you'll get every year. No team has 5 aces, not one. I'm sure they'll add a starter and I'm sure that this team will be fine because the guy running it is smarter than all of us when it comes to this stuff.
  12. Man I wish Seattle would just take Cease. This crossover forum nonsense is getting old. We get it, our rotation sucks and Cease for a kings ransom is the only way we can compete, because he's a true ace.
  13. Westburg doesn't have enough arm for 3rd base.
  14. I think it's hilarious they call Basallo "utilityman". He's got a position and if he puts up numbers like last year he's likely a top 10 prospect in all of baseball.
  15. I hope he goes to Seattle and we get one of their pitchers. I prefer them to Cease in nearly every way.
  16. Dodgers just payed a ton of money for a guy who never pitched more than 120 innings in his career and he's 30. I think if Wells can get his endurance up, he sure looked to me to have gained a lot of weight as the season went on, I'm hoping he can pitch 150+.
  17. I get it, but why do the Mariners do that? They can't want to trade one of their talented young kids for 2 years of Cease when their league minimum pitchers are probably going to be around the same WAR.
  18. Why involve a 3rd team if we have enough of what they want? They also wanted pitching from the Braves who backed out.
  19. They apparently did ask the Reds for their two top pitching prospects in addition to 3 more players. They definitely want pitching back for Cease.
  20. They don't. It's solely based on metrics. The only real mentions about the O's are they are #1 in LHP rankings and have the lowest xWOBA against four-seam fastballs and the second lowest against sinkers.
  21. Less competition usually means less leverage.
  22. Guess they figured they'd rather keep their entire farm system than give it to CWS for Cease. Getz lost some more leverage by losing the Reds. I hope the O's do something similar.
  23. I mean it's not just the O's. Check Reddit, every team's fans think Fangraphs hates them.
  24. Kremer is criminally underrated on this site. He's oft talked about like he's a number 5 or trade fodder, he's not good enough for the O's rotation, but sure, he has trade value. Last year was really his first full season, he's pitched 370 innings in his career and he's young. He's a smart pitcher and is going to get better I believe. We talk about giving Stroman all kinds of money, you know, a guy who doesn't miss bats, whose statcast data has been trending down in a big way for the past 3 years, but we think he'd be a top starter for us.
  25. Millions of people are happily living in NYC, but the population is declining, that isn't up for debate. The city has lost nearly 6% of its population since 2021.
