  1. Yeah, I agree. I do think he has a shot to hit enough to be a Handley+ type of prospect at some point. But that will take a while. And I’m a real fan of Handley. He’s way down everyone’s prospect list, but I think he’ll be a better than average backup to Rutschman for years, and I think that’s really valuable for the Os and specifically for Rutschman (rest, less stress to always be behind the dish).
  2. What happened is they traded Lopez and the bullpen seems slightly at risk of taking a step back. They need the arm.
  3. I’ll nitpick. Not about Ortiz, but about Mateo. Mateo’s a former too 100 prospect (I think) who’s a tremendous defender, plus plus runner and has power. His upside is elite, but he hasn’t tapped into it until the last couple of months. As good as Ortiz might be, that hit tool will have to be pretty great to have more pure upside than Mateo.
  4. Yeah, and Santander really has had a nice year at the dish. .199 ISO. 126 wRC+. Good player. Maybe better as a DH though.
  5. Not sure if/when he'll deserve his own thread, but this is interesting.
  6. Stowers k's more than Santander, but also walks more than Santander. It seems like he's more of a selective hitter.
  7. Aside from Wieters' arm and occasional ability to crush a ball very far, nothing in his game really comes close to Adley, IMO. I was immediately unimpressed by Wieters. Particularly by his bat speed. From day 1 his swing looked long and slow to me. Part of that was expectations. If he was a border line top 100 guy, I may have been thrilled. I was immediately impressed by Rutschman and continue to be more impressed as time goes on. He's going to end up much better than Wieters.
  8. I've watched and followed more this year than I have in a long time. Heck, I rarely even came to the Orioles Talk forum here because it just wasn't very interesting or important. The minors stuff has been so much more fun. That's finally changing and I love it.
  9. My point is that if we want to keep guys in the lineup because of their defense, you should have a bat to go to when needed. We're keeping people in the lineup because of their defense and focusing on defense for our bench. Right now, this roster is poorly constructed.
  10. Good for Creed. He's really going to have to dedicate himself this offseason to develop into the type of player they hope he can be.
  11. Re: age, I'm not bothered. He's 24. There was a Covid year. He's been ready for months. I think he's essentially Santander but more likely to be healthy, play better defense and be cheaper.
  12. The O's paid for their roster decisions last night. It's the 9th inning, Urias is on first and we hit Mateo. That's not good. Phillips pinch ran. We had Mateo scheduled with Nevin, Chirinos and McKenna on the bench. If we pinch run for Urias, it should have been McKenna and a really potent bat should have pinch hit for Mateo.
  13. Not quite. You get Henderson for 6 years whether you bring him up today or in 2 weeks. You get him for 7 if you hold him back at the beginning of next year.
  14. That's a really shallow view of what he's done. The whole org has coordinated drafting/talent acquisition and player development. The major league team has pitchers over performing. There's depth throughout and it's not just his #1 picks. Why would an owner not assume he can do all of that while signing guys to big FA contracts?
  15. To be fair, I think most here are on board with this within some level of reasonableness. The problem is who are you moving. Many here (looking in the mirror), think Cowser is second to only Henderson in terms of our future hitters. Certainly going to be better than the 3 guys we have in the outfield now. Do you move him? Do you get that pitcher without moving a top guy like that? Can you put 6-8 second tier guys together to get that pitcher. Is that smart? It's easier said than done, and it definitely comes with tradeoffs.
  16. Ok. Your op, for me, is blank. Is it font color or something? Edit: It is font color. I use the Hangout theme, so my background is white. I see no text at all in your OP. When I highlight the space I see it.
  17. The answer is right in your post. They're gaming service time to make sure their players are eligible next year for rookie of the year. They're calculating that 2-3 fewer weeks of some of Henderson, Stowers, Westburg and Hall this year is worth less than the opportunity to get an extra draft pick in 2024.
  18. Well the real unknown is when we'll have another owner at all. If that happens, all bets are off. But what if we're 3-4 years away from that? Will they resign Elias? I'm sure he wants to see this through to a championship, but I'm also sure he likes a lot of zeroes after the other numbers in his pay check. I swear. If I were the Angels, Nats (post ownership change) and probably a few other big market teams, I'd be throwing the kitchen sink at him trying to let him take over my franchise.
  19. Did Wildcard go on a bender or something? What's this thread about?
  20. Hell, I think this is a good thread. We have a million threads talking about trading guys for starting pitching. Signing starting pitching. Drafting more starting pitching. This guys says we need to make it happen even if it costs a lot. Basically, be the Rays but with more ability to retain talent or pay for need. Isn't that what we all want? Sometimes it feels like people come here to shoot down anything they can.
  21. I e been drinking. How about you give me the cliff notes?
  22. Hold on. If you owned the Orioles, are you saying you wouldn’t want Elias as GM?
