That’s an optimistic view of the Angelos regime and lack of financially supportive actions that I do not share. Let’s all hope that Angelos transforms from awful into at least average. 🤞

It's just my opinion but after the Chris Davis disaster it's hard to hope for any big, long terms deals with anyone while this family owns the team.  I'll only believe it when I see it.  I'm guessing John Angelos' main objective is to sell the team -- but only after Peter passes away.

I agree and the Angels should trade Trout if the opportunity arises in return for decent value.

At the risk of getting off topic, I think the only way the Yankees or Phillies would try to trade for Trout is if the Angels would take back an expensive player in return -- like maybe the Phillies sending Schwarber and his salary to the Angels in addition to a couple young players.  Something like that.  Looking at a few rosters it might be the Dodgers that could want Trout the most, especially if the Mookie infield experiment works out.  But I doubt the Angels are savvy enough to trade Trout as long as they are playing pretty well.

    He's got trade protection.

Sure, but I bet he'd approve a trade to the right team.  I'm not suggesting the O's try to trade for him.  I bet he'd approve a trade to the Phillies or Yankees, both of which could use help in the OF.

I definitely don’t want Trout’s contract along with the degenerative back condition.

But I don’t think we will ever have to worry about that as I am 100% certain that awful Angelos will never go for trading for that kind of contract and paying a player that type of money.

Not suggesting the O's should trade for Trout, especially when he doesn't pitch.  I'm just skeptical the Angels want to trade Ohtani, unless they're sure they can't re-sign him and they fall out of contention.  The Phillies should trade for Trout and put him in LF.

People that want to dump him because of his slumps or lack of walks are being a bit shortsighted.   He shouldn't be at cleanup, but he provides a good amount of production and lots of playoff teams would love to have a guy like that in the 6 or 7 spot.  And when he gets hot he can carry a team.   Yeah, it would be great to have ,400 onbase guys up and down the lineup, and maybe we will be able to pull that off.   But we don't have too many guys with 30 HR potential and he has done it once and may well do it again.

He's excellent trade bait because of all the talent in the minors, as is Santander.  But it's probably not the year to trade either player.

We likely would of beat them if Grayson wasnt the starter.

And I'm sure Angels fans are frustrated how the Orioles roughed up Ohtani too and might have lost them the game.  Don't get too down on Grayson.  He is going to take some licks like most promising young pitchers new to the league.  Better it happens against a team with one of the scariest lineups.  Maybe the Orioles needed a loss like this to realize now they can't get complacent about pitching.

In a 20-game stretch ending on 12 May, Mountcastle hit .310/.341/.476/.817 in 88 PAs. But he is 0-for his last-11 with 6 Ks in his last three games.

Oh, he definitely has his good runs.  But overall his OBP this year is toward the bottom of the league, which I think even for him is a bit surprising.

The person that set the criteria repped me for pointing out that Rodriguez didn't meet the criteria.

As for him being a top prospect?  Sure, but he was also the third ranked starting pitching prospect for the team and was having a down season when he was traded.

There was no criteria mentioned in the post I replied to.  Anyway, he's probably just a kid who doesn't realize there's no draft for international players.  I'm sure his repping you made your day.

    Drafted and developed.

    So both.

    He wasn't drafted.

He does not meet the criteria set forth.

You could also say he wasn't developed since his game progressed after the trade.

I'm not stupid enough to believe the criteria was intended to exclude young players from other countries who can't be drafted -- because no draft exists for them.  Eduardo Rodriguez was one of the Orioles' top prospects when they traded him, and he pitched well in the minors the few years he was here.  So, I guess by your trolling logic, it's not relevant the Dodgers developed Pedro Martinez because they couldn't draft him.

Not sure why you would claim EdRod "progressed" after he was traded to the Red Sox.  Based on his performance for the Orioles in the minors it appears he followed on more or less the same trajectory.

Ed Rod never pitched an inning for us.  Arrieta doesn’t count.  He was horrible here and instantly became good after we traded him.  Britton was never a good starter.

The point was who was developed in the Oriole organization.  All three of them were whether they were good here or not.  Arrieta's problems here seemingly were not his development -- perhaps just bad MLB coaching or something else.  Many good starters struggle in their initial years, though Arrieta was a extreme example.

    30.  Means has probably been the best along with Gausman?  Maybe I’m forgetting someone.  That’s pathetic SP development over 30 years.

Erik Bedard, Eduardo Rodriguez and Jake Arrieta -- Zach Britton before he was turned into a closer.

I can't believe the crap I'm reading here.  Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson both struggled their first couple years in the league.

Westburg is the future 1B of this team. It just won't happen until next season at the earliest.

Urias, Mateo, Santander, Hays, Mountcastle - all of them should be traded.

I'd stick with Gunnar for another few weeks. Adley struggled his first month or so in the majors and then figured things out. Coming into today's game, Gunnar's OBP was higher than that of Santander, Mateo, Mountcastle, and Frazier. This offense actually can't afford to send down Gunnar when he makes pitchers work as much as he does, and when he gets on base as much as he does despite a low average (which I have full confidence will improve soon).

Of course Henderson is likely a great player in the making and needs some patience, but I think he may need some more finishing at some point in AAA.

I don't agree Urias, Mateo, Santander and Hays or even Mountcastle should be traded anytime soon so long as this team keeps up it's winning ways -- unless the return for those guys is better than expected.  I especially like Urias as a role player, I can't see why the O's would trade Hays in the near future, and the only real reason to trade Santander anytime soon is because he'll be a free agent in the not too distant future.

Even if most of the guys in the minors reach their potential it may take some time.

I think the lineup that got shutout this past Monday was worse. A cold Mateo hitting 5th, McCann 6th, and Frazier 7th. McKenna 9th.

The lineup against lefties is an issue that needs to be addressed. I'm a broken record saying this, but Westburg is part of the answer to that problem.

Really?  Today's lineup has 5 hitters with an OPS under .700 -- including two under .400.  Just looking at the box score they have 15 strikeouts today.  Henderson shouldn't be batting higher than 8th or 9th.  I don't get the Stowers experiment at all.  He needs to go down soon.  Henderson may need a taste of AAA again too at some point, especially to work on his defense.

Concerning McKenna, he's hit pretty well this year against lefties.  Though today's pitcher is a righty.

But really the player that drives me mad is Ryan Mountcastle.  His OBP is in the bottom 15 in the league, as are his walks.  I guess he'll get better, but I don't see him as the 1B or DH of the future for this team with all the talent downstairs and around the league.  Despite his obvious gifts as a hitter he's more flawed than Mancini.
