2-3 with a walk tonight, BA now at .324. I don't know where to find these kinds of splits, but given his slow start I have to think Cowser has been hitting around .400 over his last twenty games.

He’s had 7 multi hit games since 4/11.  A couple 3 hit nights and a 4 hit night.
30 for his last 64 in that span.  .468 avg.

Lol, Frazier has no arm and no range. Meanwhile Westburg hit another homer today and is batting .337 and Ortiz collected two more hits and is batting .370.

Thank God they signed Frazier for $8 freakin' million.

    Westburg has 3 hits :)

By the way, A ball has Basallo, Holliday, Creed Willems, As well as, Beavers, Wagner, and Fabian (last year’s high draft picks). They re all going to need to be given chances at promotions too.

That grouping will be in AA by end of year (if they perform consistently at an high level)and  pushing AAA the following year.   The players in AAA this year will be in MLB next year (for us or someone else).  I don’t see any log jam.  I see talented players steadily moving up the line.  We have been incredibly lucky to avoid injuries this year AND last year.   I doubt that continues.

The finances of the game are much different than the 70’s. Unfortunately, things cannot be managed like they were then. I’m almost certain that he will be up or traded by the deadline if not sooner. There is starting to be a systemic logjam for our prospects as it is already. If guys don’t graduate from AAA after a while, it has a ripple effect in that guys can graduate from AA and then A, etc. It wouldn’t be that big of a problem if it was just one guy because you could always move the other guy to another position. But when you are jammed pack like we are in positional players, there is really no place to put them.

The log jam stops at Norfolk.  6 of our top 8 prospects are in Norfolk.  Mayo & Prieto in AA IF and Kjerstad in OF.  Not a ton of talent/prospects there.  A+ is similar.  The depth they have at AAA is fantastic.  Injuries will occur, players will not perform, and a trade will be made.  I don’t see a “systemic logjam” and oh, by the way - sign me up for such a well of talent.

Looks like a Elias move we have seen before.

My bet is Elias DFAs Torrens before he hits the 26 man roster.   Elias is betting that the 1.2M salary keeps other teams from claiming him and  that he can talk Torrens into staying at AAA instead of losing his 1.2M salary.

Sounds like the O'Hearn move to me.

Elias wants move depth at the catching position.  Krehbiel must not be impressing Buck Britton or Ramsey this year.

This sounds like a likely scenario.

It certainly does not say a lot of good things about him when the organization thinks so much of you that they go out and get a $1.2 million backup to their current catching tandem. Seems like he's behind him and Bemboom for even playing time. Wonder if they'll send him back to AA?

Been pulling for the kid but early returns are pretty minimal.  Had a 4 hit game in first week and has had 4 hits in all the other games combined.

He does have more BBS than Ks and a .400 OBP, though.

Hmm, strange move. Why are they acquiring a $1.2 million backup catcher to be depth in AAA? I mean, I think people know how I feel about Bemboom so I think he's a better option if the Orioles need another catcher, but a bit weird considering the price tag.

I mean its not my money but not sure what his role is besides being catching depth.

It will be interesting to see if Krehbiel makes it through waivers. After watching some of the relievers we've faced, I have to imagine he'll get claimed. That actually shows the depth of our 40-man though. When you can't get guys through you have good guys.

Handley hasn’t looked very good to start off season.  He’s right at his MiLB career numbers & D hasn’t been stellar.  Wonder if they are throwing up the white flag on Maverick as 2024 back-up and moving on.

To me he looks like he doesn’t believe in his ability to do damage when he swings, which I’d argue a sports psychologist could help. And based on his struggles against lefties throughout his (short) career and his trouble against breaking stuff this year, it’s also entirely conceivable that his swing may need to be tweaked. It’s not as if the Kelenic comp is some sort of death sentence but if this continues, I’m not sure how you could not see the similarities.

I think he believes in himself a little too much.  He must have off-the-charts vision.  His ability to recognize pitches & locations is really darn near second to none and he’s only 21.  Once he starts tattooing a couple mistakes, pitchers are going to get even more precise/conscious of his abilities and make more mistakes/miss more often.  It’s just a patience game with this guy.  He’s going to go off.

The LHP issues are a little concerning but I’m willing to give home a little lead way.

I don’t think he needs to be sent down or suggest he ought to, but if he were I’d be OK because he’d be replaced with Westburg or Ortiz and I believe in all their abilities.  I think we look back at this at end of the year as a blip on the radar & Gunnar, Westburg, & Ortiz have all made significant contributions.

Did anyone notice the group of players doing spitting "water fountains" on Adley's double. I hope this does not become a thing.

They've been doing it since spring training.  It's hilarious.

Single turn on the water spigot, double sprinkler, HR drink from hose.  Not sure if they have something for a 3b.  It's all my youth team talks about and tries to imitate lol

I noticed that, I think they have been selectively framing the hose in broadcasts. If the team want the whole thing shown on TV, all they need to do is put a SuperBook Sports logo on the funnel part.

    nailed it!

That's all well and good, and our guys have good breaking pitches. But I don't want Kremer and Wells starting games by pitching off of their worst pitch.

If they land this pitch in inning 1 it opens up a whole host of options....of course...you have to land the pitches and they are not.  But at end of the day, I think with all the advanced scouting they are just trying to give as many different looks as possible to not be easy to read.

On a more anecdotal note, his helmet looks really dumb.  Not quite Justin Turner Pine Tar on Jersey Back dumb but pretty close.

Hopefully it's just rosin and not his version of old school greenies to get him fired up for an AB.

  13. From Verducci's Article:

It may seem counterintuitive, but as pitchers throw faster, they throw fewer fastballs. The use of fastballs (not including cutters) was as high as 58.4% in 2009. Last season, it fell below 50% for the first time, to 48.5%. This year, it is down further, to 46.9%. At this rate, hitters will see 80,886 fewer fastballs than they did 14 years ago, even though the average velocity of those fastballs has gone up 1.9 mph.

But what biomechanics have done for velocity, technology has done even more for spin. Breaking pitches have become so nasty that, this year, a run-of-the-mill slider is tougher to hit (.218) than a fastball at 99 mph and above (.232). For example, St. Louis righthander Jordan Hicks has thrown the most 100-mph pitches this year (110). Hicks hit 100 mph more times in April than the entire league did in April just five years ago (92 in 2018). And yet, batters hit .333 against his triple-digit fastballs.

Blame on the WBC?  Did he develop some bad habits(free swingin) because of the lack of quality pitching on the lesser teams?

He was in the group of death with DR & PR and then played USA.  I think he’s in a funk and has some nagging injuries.

the 16 pitch AB had to be one of the longest (time-wise) in MLB history.  Salvy coming out, new C getting banged around, and then pitches.  Crazy.

Hoping he breaks out soon - would be a boon for the team.

Good to hear about Willems’ defense.  As to Young, it looks like we gambled and lost, if he’s not at least playing good defense.  His hitting has been abysmal, but he could continue to work on that so long as the defense was good.  I’ll be patient, but early returns are very disappointing.

He had a nasty injury so I’m being patient and giving him benefit of the doubt, but that patience is wearing off.
