Mateo hit a “shallow”,  “high”, fly to LCF.  It had an exit velocity of 98.5.    Exit velo is nice.  I can still tell which balls are hit solidly, which balls are deep, and which balls are line drives, fly balls, or something in between.  Both of those balls were not true line drives.   When the CF is playing normal depth and doesn’t take a step back, nothing he catches should be called “deep”.   If that’s a deep line drive, what to you call the one that one-hops the wall?

I’m not stoked up.  I just don’t like inaccurate information or opinions being pedaled which are clearly wrong.   Very few hard hit balls against Kremer last night unless you consider routine fly balls hard hit.

Who is being disingenuous?  The ball that Tucker hit (after almost decapitating the first base umpire with a foul line drive) would have two or three hopped the wall.  To be very clear, MacKenna took 9 steps back and to his left to catch the ball over his left shoulder.  Was it a routine play?  Yes it was.  Was the ball hit hard and deep?  Yes it was.  Not sure what you are trying to prove here.

342 to CF is not deep no matter how you label it.    Just missed what?   Please stop!

I’m done.  Any reasonable person would see that neither ball was deep or hit very hard.  Both had plenty of hang time.  Two “routine “ plays by McKenna.   Good luck with using Gameday to form your opinions.

I guess we will just have to agree that neither of those balls were hit to shallow CF...Not sure why you are so fired up.

If you are stoked on Kremer's performance last night, then good for you.  I think he got bailed out by the umpire, a couple GIDPs, and a lot of line outs hit directly to players.  I'm happy they won.  Go O's!

But seriously a 96.8 EV lineout @ 340' doesn't' classify as a hard hit/deep line-out in your book?  Tough judge.

Just watching the condensed version.  It’s really disingenuous to call either of those fly balls in the 2nd inning deep.   Very disingenuous.  I suggest you watch again.

Again, my original comment (which comes directly from MLB gameday play by play) reads Tuker/Bregman line out to deep CF.....  A 342' line drive isn't a deep line out?  Just rewatched, looked to me that both balls were well struck and just missed.

In the second inning you have two “long” fly outs to CF.   According to the link SG posted, one went 340 feet and the other 342.   That’s not deep CF.

Pretty deep for a *line out not a *fly out ;)

BTW, you have no examples after the 3rd inning.  Nothing?

Those were the examples of 'deep fly balls'.  There were balls hit hard after the 3rd inning but no 'deep fly balls'

  6. For the record, I'm not down on Kremer.  Just nitpicking his performance.  I thought he battled and made a pitch when he needed to.  It was a lot of fun to watch.  I just want to see him keep getting better - it sure seems like that is what's going on here.  Hes learning how to pitch and is trusting his stuff, that's great to see.

  7. Inning 1 - Fell behind Altuve 3-1, Walked Gurriel but got bailed out with a K by umpire...missed by 6 inches, 3 ball counts on first two hitters of game, Alvarez hard hit ground ball into shift

Inning 2 - Fell behind Bregman 3-1  then ball 4 outside but called a strike, Fell behind 3-2 count to Tucker, Fell behind 1-0 count to vasquez

Through two innings he got ahead of 1 batter.

Inning 3 - got ahead of Mancini & Hensley.  Fell behind 2-0 to Dubon

Inning 4- Fell behind to Altuve 2-0 then 3-1 and Atuve hit a laser up middle on full count. Got ahead of Gurriel and got a GIDP...then goes behind Alvarez 2-0

Through four inning he got ahead of 5 batters.

Inning 5 - Got ahead of Bregman, Fell behind Tucker 1-0, Got ahead of Vasquez

Inning 6 - Fell behind Mancini 1-0, Got ahead of Hensley, Got ahead of Dubon

Through six innings he got ahead of 9 batters

Inning 7 - Laser double on first pitch, Got ahead of Gurriel, Alvarez rbi single on 0-0, Fell behind Bregman 1-0 then he rolls into GIDP

Inning 8 - Fell behind Tucker 1-0, Got ahead of Vasquez, Got ahead of Mancini

Through 7 2/3 he got ahead of 12 batters he faced.

Quickly rewatching game was interesting.  Odd game - a good bit of hard contact hit directly to players, a couple GIDP that were hit hard, a lot of deep counts, and a lot of outs on first pitch.  I don't think getting behind that many batters is a recipe for success.  He did make some phenomenal pitches when he had to, but that performance could have very easily gone the other way and looked pretty ugly.

He was at 85 pitches after 7 innings.  I don't think there were as many 3-0 and 3-1 counts as you think.  Who hit the ball hard off of him?  I'd love to know.

See my post on previous page.

Hall can get a strikeout at any time. Situationally, he can be an asset on the MLB roster. Especially in extra innings where you start with a guy on second. Right now, Bautista is that guy that can get us out of those jams,  but he can’t do it every time. He’s also starting to throw multiple innings to close out a game. I wouldn’t trust Hall for more than a batter or two, but he’d be one of their best options situationally. Plus, he’s a lefty.

You want to put a guy out there to pitch the 10th inning with a runner on base who has thrown 10 wild pitches, 48 BBs, 2 balks, and 2 HBP(I'm surprised this number is so low) this year in 75 AAA innings?

Yeah, and if your aunt has balls she’d be your,…well you know. The spin rate, movement, location all effect the outcome. You have to acknowledge the advancements made by the statistics and the ability of player development. There is a lot to be said for pitching to the big part of the part.

What exactly am I acknowledging?  All I'm saying is he didn't look dominant and seemed to get fairly lucky especially while falling behind a lot of batters.  Not exactly a recipe for success if you ask me.  But maybe the player dev department wants the pitchers starting off with 3-0 & 3-1 counts just to get the batters off balance a little bit?

  11. Inning 1 - Altuve flies out to deep center (3-1 count hit to warning track)

Inning 2 - Bregman lines out to deep center (3-2 count, should have walked on the 3-1 count, not hit to warning track)

Inning 2 - Tucker lines out to deep center (3-2 count just shy of warning track)

Inning 3 - Hensley flies out to deep right center (0-1 count just shy of warning track)

Those balls were all just missed.  1/4 of an inch on the bat and those go as HR.

  12. Was great to see him go 7 2/3, that’s always positive.  But to me it looked like he got a bit lucky.  He got behind a ton of batters, there was not a lot of swing and miss, and there were a bunch of balls just barely missed that went as deep fly outs.  It’s baseball, sometimes you’re on your game and you get unlucky, sometimes you play decent and the other team makes you like like an all star.  He battled and never gave in and that was my biggest take away from his performance last night.  Solid game and something to build on for sure.

Gunnar seems to be slumping somewhat in Norfolk.  I wonder if the stat guys can figure out what is going on with him lately?  I think this is perhaps why Elias is holding off bringing him up.   He is not on a hot streak.

He just hit a 107mph laser that CF made a fantastic play on.  A little bit of striking out, a little bit of bad luck, still has had 5 BBS this week while not putting up the hits.

  14. Solid AA debut.  5ip 3h 2r 6k 2bb on 47/79.  If you haven't seen this guy pitch yet, he's a tall lefty and really hides the ball well.  Didn't have his best control and fell behind a lot of batters, but had some pretty nasty stuff the guys were having trouble squaring up.

It's probably not common to promote HS players to Delmarva after being drafted?

I don't think so.  He likely starts there next year.  Delmarva season is over on 9/11 so not a lot of time remaining anyways.
