Or are you being over the top because of an ultra SSS, where a back injury occurred and he was thrown off his rhythm?

I don’t think saying his pitching “hasn’t been pretty” is over the top.  Seems pretty spot on.  I’d actually up it a bit and say his performance has been down right ugly.

  2. Is it safe to say Kimbrel hasn’t been pretty without being chastised yet?  Or are we still clinging to an ultra SSS of success early in season when he was effectively wild in the zone.

And in the grand scheme of things it isn't all that damaging.

The way I see it in the grand scheme of things small details start to add up over the course of a 162 game season and can ultimately have an impact on results/success.

Not relatwd to defense but it makes me think of “You know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. 25 hits in 500 at-bats is fifty points, okay? There's six months in a season, that's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week, just one; A gork, a groundball—you get a groundball with eyes—you get a dying quail...just one more dying quail a week, and you're in Yankee Stadium.”

John Wockenfuss had one of the strangest stances. He used to have both feet facing away from the pitcher. ERyqJwJXYAA4TDe.jpg.810cebb3a7878f4013682da266011fcf.jpg

Looks a lot like Tettleton but not as much “bat hug”.

I believe Dan Ford just had his front foot back like that , but extremely closed.

I remember batting like that once in Little League because of that and hit one on the longest home runs I ever hit at that age. Then, I made a couple of outs and ditched it to more of a regular stance. haha....

Anyways, as for Jackson Holliday stance, legs kicks work for some and not for others. The key is to get it down in time and being able to pick up spin and movement early enough. To me, Holliday just got behind in too many counts because of some great pitches on the edges of the strikezone.

I'm not a swing expert, but I've seen the kid hit well against all types of pitches including velocity so i think he's going to be just fine.

He's gotten on base a lot more down in AAA where the automated strike zone helps him with his great eye, but hasn't hot for much average or power since going back down (.242./432./364./795 with a 11-9 BB to K in 44 PAs. The Ks are still a bit high in AAA.

    He just needs more seasoning.

This is how I see it.  I question his swing decisions more so than his mechanics.  He was absolutely pitched to and fell behind in what felt like every AB.  It seemed like everyone  threw absolutely perfect pitches and he didn’t get many breaks with calls.  I think he will build off the experience and hit the ground running next time.

    I'm not worried at all.

He's not going anywhere and his overall game is fabulous.

Best player in the game at his position and folks are picking apart his game.

He’s my favorite player and he’s fabulous.  I’m just starting to give up hope he can be above average in the running game.  Nothing wrong with that.  He could still improve, but it does seem other teams are increasingly taking advantage of him on the base paths.

It would be nice if Adley didn’t bounce 75% of his throws to 2B (my estimate).  I’m really not impressed with the accuracy of his throws.

I’ve officially started to worry about his throwing game.  A good portion of his throws aren’t even remotely close.

I was actually just watching last nights replay and thought about this. They need outfielders so this would be good place to dump McKenna, Hays, or Stowers for pitching. They are desperate.

Didn’t they have the opportunity to claim McKenna a few weeks ago?

#4 in the AL Batting Title race. The crazy thing is he still has a massive reverse split. He is absolutely on fire as RHB (1.268) vs somewhat alarming slump as LHB (.552). I expect both to normalize but something is up with him on the left side right now. He also has an uncharacteristic 3:1 K/BB this year.

It seems like teams have figured out that he always takes the first pitch. It goes against his approach but he might want to start ambushing those first pitch middle middle FB's.

If that continues I imagine he will make an adjustment.

Six of the top 10 HS prospects on Perfect Game's list are OF.

The most interesting kid on the list is Noah Franco from IMG Academy. Two way guy, re-classed to 2024 from 2025. Seems like a guy how will have enough ?s to fall to 32. It depends on whether scouts see him as a hitter or a pitcher or if he wants to do a full Shohei.

"Noah Franco is a 2024 OF/LHP, 1B with a 6-3 192 lb. frame from Bradenton, FL who attends IMG Academy. Taller and high waisted frame with extra long limbs for the height. Ran a 6.52 in the sixty yard dash. A primary outfielder with really good instincts. Long strides and good routes, working through the ball with a fluid and clean funnel to release. Big arm strength at 96 mph. Lots of feel. Also has good ability at first base and the arm also plays extremely well there. A left-handed swing, the wrists are elite allowing him to flick the barrel with authority late in the process. All fields approach and lift and carry to the process. Hammered balls in game. A left-handed pitcher, loose arm action with big upside and the ball comes out clean and down hill. Ride to the heater when down. Lands the curveball and change up and sequences his three pitch mix well. Excellent athlete and the highest level 2-way potential at the next level. Excellent student. Named to the PG All-American Classic."

I was down at IMG last weekend and watched him pitch Friday night.  He was 91-92 with solid control and a good looking slider.  Only gave up a couple hits but nothing barreled, or even pulled for that matter.  He has the frame.  6’3” with long limbs and runs well.  Very impressive athlete.  He hit everything hard while batting.  His pitching performance was impressive, but the hit tool and athleticism really stood out.  On a field worth a ton of good players he stood out as head and shoulders above the group.   He has a body type/skill set that is super projectable.

He was also originally a 2025 guy but reclassed to be eligible for the 2024 draft.  Might be youngest in the draft class.

Just noticed Chayce has a heat wrap around his back in the dugout.

    Still, turn the game on!

    Normal.  Heat helps blood flow.

But you once paid $11 for a beer at OPACY, and Nick made a lot of cash, so he shoulda been doing some kind of Navy Seal training and hit 8 points higher for the fans.

And maybe his off-season routine is why he played in less than 150 games only 3x in his 14 year (not counting 2020) career.  He found a way to post & put up numbers.  He was worth every $ he was paid.  Can’t say that about many players.
