  1. Because I'd want my son to be a man of his word. I think that yes, in a heartbeat the O's would take the composition pick in the 2021 draft over paying your dishonest son slot. Wouldn't you in their shoes? As for a PR hit, even I wouldn't give the O's crap about not signing a kid that went back on his word. No way in the world would I believe the O's picked him with the intention of paying him slot.
  2. So you'd tell your son to negotiate in poor faith with the Orioles. Classy. Also, way to probably cost your son millions of dollars since if I'm the O's I happily pick 1-3 in 2021 while your son is a senior draftee with zero leverage and a reputation for being untrustworthy. (sorry if you are a mom and not a dad) Edit- Also you will have royally pissed off your son's actual advisor by slandering them.
  3. His bonus ended up between slots seven and eight.
  4. So you'd tell him to lie to the O's? I'm confused here. You have all the draft projections in front of you and you see that your son is projected to go ~9th. So if the O's call and say we will pay him #7.5 money to go #2 you would tell your son to say yes and then change your demand? Tell the O's up front to pay him 1-2 money? Even if they actually had your son #1 on their board they'd tell you to pound sand. Then you have your son, the senior, reentering the draft.
  5. So you'd tell your son to refuse the O's offer so he can get picked ninth? Way to go dad!
  6. Great work. So far my argument that service time manipulation isn't a common practice is looking good.
  7. Wasn't what I meant. Men can also be the victim.
  8. Team player contracts aren't privileged information. Deferred money impacts luxury tax numbers.
  9. I don't think it is going to become SOP to ask guys to take deferments on non-guaranteed contracts.
  10. I'm not suggesting heavy analytic content, just basic stuff sprinkled in.
  11. That 53 year old new blood. I like Ben but I'd also like someone who is younger and analytic savvy in the booth.
  12. So they weren't penny pinching enough to be penny pinching at all? They did leave more unspent than any other team. More than other famously frugal teams like the Marlins, Rays, Indians and Pirates. Sorry, when I see them cutting everything else, saving amounts that should be irrelevant, I can't trust them. I think it's pretty clear that they consider 222K an amount they deem at least somewhat significant.
  13. I just don't see why folks can see all the rest and still deny the possibility that cuts are being made in other areas. I don't see how they have earned any trust in that area.
  14. I'd feel better if they had purchased 200K more talent in the draft. I don't get why when we see this extreme cost cutting folks aren't willing to consider the possibility that cuts were made there as well. You think they are saving more than 222K by letting a coach go?
  15. So we have a team that has: 1- Asked guys with non-guaranteed contracts to take deferred money. 2- Let coaches go to save money 3- Killed pre and post game show to save money 4- Killed fan fest 5- Let announcers go to save money And yet it's a complete coincidence that they just happen to go underslot with their first round pick and they just happened to leave more money unspent than any other team. Because no way a ML team would care about a couple hundred thousand.
  16. How does deferred money even work with a non-guaranteed deal?
  17. They let coaches go to save money. I'd never heard of that before.
  18. So does all my speculation about them cost cutting still seem unlikely?
  19. Not in the business but I think they would have some overlap.
  20. I would think that doing shows for two teams would not cost as much as the combined cost of two teams doing their own shows.
  21. I've said it before 1-2 and the largest pool I would expect the pundits to like the draft.
  22. Sure but if you are paying for MASN don't you expect that coverage?
  23. I'm fine with the personnel changes but I'm a bit at a loss when it comes to cutting the pre and post game shows. Edit- I get it now. The O's are being petty toward the Nats. Killing their own product to force the Nats to do their own on relatively short notice.
