It's the catcher's fault? Poor framing? I've never seen any study trying to parse data on if a pitcher's outing length is affected by who is catching them.

I think that ultimately it is the pitcher that decides what pitch he will throw. I think the team comes up with the gameplan on how to attack hitters.
