I don't think a guy collecting over 600 plate appearances in his third consecutive season with the team qualifies. He was .5 WAR his last year in Baltimore and -.7 in Toronto. His pay dropped from 3.8M to 850K.

He's so good he had to sign a minor league deal with the Orioles.

He had some really good starts for the O's. Including a one (bunt) hitter if I remember correctly. I don't think what he has done so far this spring training is proof of much of anything. I will also have no problems with his career taking off, he always seemed like a decent guy and hard worker.

The main reason it has escalated is the well intentioned comments from his teammates.

I agree, losing games is just a side effect. If the O's were really emphasizing losing games they could have lost more last year, maybe enough to beat out the Tigers.
