  1. I'll say that if you toss aside all the accounting chicanery every MLB team turned a healthy profit for its owners last year.
  2. Nice rebuttal. They bought the team. The Royals just went for a billion, the Royals. People buy teams because they are insanely profitable. If you were to spend a billion on something wouldn't you want a sold ROE?
  3. I think money saved is money that goes to the owners. I just don't think that a salary floor leads to a better fan experience, I think it leads to more bad contracts.
  4. For the record I'm in full agreement that ownership is being cheap. I don't think it bodes well for the future.
  5. I was just pointing out that you did in fact call him a 4 win player during this discussion. Since you called me out on it and all.
  6. I think that mostly just leads to bad contracts being handed out. Is the fanbase going to be happier if all the low salary teams sign a 32 year old to a 4/40 contract? Don't the NBA and NFL have mechanisms in place to help teams shed truly onerous contracts?
  7. I'm not at all comfortable rounding 3.53 up to 4. You can do as you like.
  8. I think all of us agree that the team is being...frugal. As for trading him at the deadline, I've already addressed that. If the return was light enough it would be an acceptable risk to try again. If it comes out he got a fair offer and didn't take it, I'd change my mind.
  9. He's not a 4 win player. I'd be OK with calling him a 3 win player but 4 is just overstating your case.
  10. 4.0+3.9+2.7/3=3.53. Even cherry picking your stats he's not a 4 win guy. If he's viewed as a 4 win guy why haven't the O's found a trade partner yet?
  11. Of course they knew if they wanted to tender him for 2020. What I'm saying is that it is possible that the return at the deadline was so insignificant that it was an acceptable risk to try again after the season was over.
  12. See here average fan, nine million is a lot of money when you aren't going to be competitive anyway. Wouldn't you like 9 million dollars?
  13. Whatever they can? Right, if ownership allows them to spend 5 million they will spend 5 million.
  14. What gets me is that they are doing things like this but I was out in tinfoil hat land for suggesting that ownership might not want to spend the full allotment for international players.
  15. Sure you could. But I think the potential reward makes that an acceptable risk to take. Hard to say which route would be superior from a process standpoint.
