  1. In the version I favor Ohtani paid off his friend's debt. Anyway Ohtani is someone that gave all his money he made in the NPB for his parents to hold for him.
  2. We don't know. The version that rings most true to me right now is the one where Ippei racked up the debt and asked Ohtani to pay it off for him.
  3. I'm sure the Orioles are talking to Boras about it all the time.... Wasn't something to that effect said?
  4. He's not making 70M a year in salary. Add in endorsements and yea, he's pretty close.
  5. It is suspicious since the story has already changed once. Evidently the first story was that: But on Wednesday afternoon, Mizuhara told ESPN that Ohtani had no knowledge of his gambling debts and that Ohtani had not transferred money to the bookmaker's associate.
  6. Fallout from an investigation of Mathew Bowyer over illegal gambling. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-03-20/gambling-story?utm_source=reddit.com
  7. Who? Dodgers? Angels? Padres? Mariners? None of them were in a position to sign him to a megadeal, maybe the Giants were willing but Snell wasn't?
  8. I was talking about the folks saying the O's are forging some new way. It's not. They've just been really good at drafting and developing. Now maybe it comes out in a few years that the O's have some secret sauce like the Astros did with spin rate? I wouldn't be shocked.
  9. I don't see how you can say anyone is following the O's when a lot of the teams are locking up young talent. Is any other team only signing guys to one and two year deals?
  10. He didn't have to settle for a two year deal. Word is the Yankees offered him 150M last month and he turned it down. That's on him.
  11. They are signing solid AAV short term deals with opt outs. So far none are doing badly.
  12. That is what you get for lollygagging.
  13. The head isn't the problem, it's the squishy stuff that's stored inside.
  14. I think Ryan could be renting the basement of Adley's house and it wouldn't make Elias less likely to trade him.
  15. Yea, the Tanner Scott deal for Miami. Guess it depends on how Fabian pans out. I'd sure rather have Scott than Fabian atm.
  16. If the plan is to move Santander why wait this long? Wouldn't it have been easier to get a solid return during the offseason?
  17. He wasn't all that impressive in Japan last season.
  18. Good luck making that case in front of a jury.
  19. It wasn't a guaranteed contract so I think he just pockets the fraction and goes on his way. I do think the league leans on teams with very low payroll to spend money on these types of contracts.
  20. What are the odds Hernaiz is even in the league in seven years? What are the odds a team is willing to pay him Arb 3 or 4 money? How is paying between 2.5 and 3.5 million for Davis a smart move if that's the end goal? I'm not sure what Oakland is thinking, honestly I haven't bothered to look at their roster construction, but I don't think this move was so they could game Hernaiz's service time.
